  • Recently, the applications of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) have become broader than ever when it comes to such industries as automotive, ships, aerospace and military because of their lightweight-ness and high mechanical properties. Thermosetting plastics like epoxy are frequently used as the binding matrix in CFRPs due to their high hardness, wetting characteristics and low viscosity. However, they cannot melted and remolded. For this reason, thermosetting plastic wastes have caused serious environmental problems with the production of fiber reinforced plastics. Thus, many studies have focused on the carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRTPs) and recycling carbon fiber. In this study, recycled carbon fiber (RCF) was prepared from CFRPs using a pyrolysis method, which was employed to separate resin and carbon fiber. The degree of decomposition for epoxy resin was confirmed from thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The RCF was cut and ground to prepare a carbon fiber composite sheet (CFCS). CFCS was manufactured by applying recycled carbon fibers and various thermoplastic fibers. Various characterizations were performed, including morphological analyses of surface and cross-section, mechanical properties, and crystallization enthalpy of CFCS at different cooling conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was the Development of Retrofit Method for Beam Using Steel Plate Reinforced by Fiber Sheet.1. Additional reinforcements are not needed in the joining area of slab and beam web.2. Beam using carbon fiber reinforced plastic displays low effects in shearing effect.3. Beams reinforced steel plate by epoxy effect the capacities of strength. But the capacities of strength are rapidly reduced when adhesive surface be omitted. Thus details are needed in this case.4.Retrofit method for beam using steel plate reinforced by fiber sheet with epoxy rosin improves the capacities of strength and the initial stiffness, shows a large transformation since the maximum load likewise may be excellent to the shearing reinforcement.

  • Using combinations of carbon and glass fiber composites normally used for strengthening of concrete structures, the hybrid effect from strengthening concrete structures using the composite is studied. To produce the hybrid effects, the specimens were made with optimum proportions of carbon fibers with glass fibers. Then, direct tensile tests were conducted on the hybrid FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) specimens. Unlike the woven fiber sheet currently used in construction sites, the FRP specimens have to be directly combined with the fibers, which make the work very complicated. Therefore, direct tensile test specimens manufacturing method based on the combination of high-tension carbon fibers and E-type glass fibers was proposed and the effects of hybridization is studied through the direct tensile test. By comparing the ductility index, the modulus of elasticity, and the stress-strain curves of the specimens, the most optimum glass to carbon fiber combination ratio for the hybrid FRP was found to be 9 to 1 with ductile K-type epoxy. The study results are discussed in detail in the paper.

  • In composite materials, the fracture perpendicular to the fiber direction usually shows a non-linear behavior accompannying blunting and plastic deformation around the crack tip. In this study, the fracture thoughness in random short fiber SMC composite material and Carbon/Epoxy composite material is estimated by the A.M.(Area Method) and the G.L.M.(Generalized Locus Method) which can determine a stable total energy release rate(G$_T$) not only in highly elghly elastic material but also in highly non-linear materials.

  • The main purpose of this study is to develop a sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method, which is a new technique for strengthening the existing concrete structures by mixing one of the carbon or glass chopped fibers and one of the epoxy or vinyl ester resins with high-speed compressed air in open air and randomly spraying the mixture onto the concrete surface. At present, the sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method using the epoxy resin has not been fully discussed. In order to investigate the material property of the sprayed FRP, this study carried out tensile tests of the material specimens, which were changed with the combinations of various variables including the length of chopped fiber and the mixture ratio of chopped fiber and resin. These variables were set to have the equal material strength, compared with that of one layer of the FRP sheet. As a result, the optimal length of glass and carbon chopped fibers was fumed out to be 38 mm, and the optimal mixture ratio between chopped fiber and resin was also turned out to be 1 : 2 from each variable. And also, the thickness of the sprayed FRP to have the equal strength to one layer of the FRP sheet was finally calculated. In is study, a series of experiments were carried out to evaluate the strengthening effects of flexural beams, shear beams and damaged beams strengthened with the sprayed FRP method, respectively. The results revealed that the strengthening effects of the flexural and shear specimens were reasonably similar to those of the FRP sheet, and the developed Sprayed FRP technique is able to be used as a strengthening scheme of existing RC building.

  • In this study, the effect of epoxy mortar panel as the shear strengthening material of reinforced concrete beam is investigated by loading test. The main variables are the kind of strengthening material, the amount of reinforcement and the spacing of CFS(Carbon Fiber Sheet) stirrups. The design method to use epoxy mortar panel as shear strengthening of reinforced concrete beam took the shear capacity as the form of the sum of $V_c$, $V_s$, $V_{sheet}$ and $V_p$. By making a comparison between the values calculated by the proposed shear strength prediction formula and those from the loading test results, the mean value was 1.10 and the standard deviation was 8.16%.

  • To establish an optimum condition in the surface treatment and curing process will be an important parameters for the fabrication of multilayered hybrid composite materials, A17075/CFRP (CARALL : carbon fiber reinforce aluminum laminates). Effects of carbon fiber direction and thickness variation in tensile strength were investigated. And impact damage behavior of carbon fiber reinforce plastic (CFRP) and CARALL were investigated also, it was found that a partial stress increase in order of epoxy adhesive, A17075, CFRP. And the partial stress of CFRP carried out a great portion of applied stress. The impact damage resistance of CARALL was higher than that of CFRP. This is because both side Al sheet of CARALL absorb a great of impact damage.

  • This study is to investigate the effect of construction element such as the number of CFS ply, curing temperature, splice length and curing periods on the mechanical properties of Carbon Fiber Sheet (CFS). Through the tensile tests of CFS specimens, it can be said that the reduction factor stemmed from the number of CFS ply must be considered in the calculation of the design tensile strength of CFS. Also, the minimum splice length of CFS and curing period in $20^{\circ}C$ to satisfy the standard tension strength of CFS are over 5cm and after 3days, respectively. The measuring error of epoxy resin have no effect to tension strength of CFS until $\pm$20% error.
