This paper studies how the free trade agreements (FTAs) have changed the dynamics of Korea's imports since 1996. Specifically, the dynamic regression analysis on the transition of trade liberalization discovers three main findings: (1) import values of Korea increase gradually as FTAs enter into force; (2) the extensive margins of import work as a major source of the trade effect in the transition episode of FTAs; (3) the extensive margins of import tend to increase even before FTAs enter into force. This noble forward-looking effect suggests some potential foreign exporters or exporting goods enter the Korean market, especially when FTAs negotiation starts. It supports the early entry behavior of potential exporters found in recent international trade literature.

This study examines the strategy of using literary works to effectively present the emotions, narrative, and characters of a drama through the drama "I'll Visit You When the Weather is Good" (2020). The drama uses poetry to effectively show the internal conflicts of the characters, allowing the viewers to understand the characters much more closely. It also shows the narrative of relationship change and growth between the characters through the narrative of a fairy tale. On the other hand, by showing still cuts of the characters' diaries in each episode, it creates a lyrical effect, as if watching the drama is like reading a literary work. In this way, the drama "I will visit you when the weather is nice" actively utilizes literature to help viewers relate to the narrative of growth and healing and experience it as their own, thus creating a three-dimensional image of the healing effect of literature.
There are various machine learning techniques such as Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, Neural Network Learning, and so on. In recent, Large Language Models (LLMs) are popularly used for Generative AI based on Reinforcement Learning. It makes decisions with the most optimal rewards through the fine tuning process in a particular situation. Unfortunately, LLMs can not provide any explanation for how they reach the goal because the training is based on learning of black-box AI. Reinforcement Learning as black-box AI is based on graph-evolving structure for deriving enhanced solution through adjustment by human feedback or reinforced data. In this research, for mutually exclusive decision-making, Mutually Exclusive Learning (MEL) is proposed to provide explanations of the chosen goals that are achieved by a decision on both ends with specified conditions. In MEL, decision-making process is based on the tree-based structure that can provide processes of pruning branches that are used as explanations of how to achieve the goals. The goal can be reached by trade-off among mutually exclusive alternatives according to the specific contextual conditions. Therefore, the tree-based structure is adopted to provide feasible solutions with the explanations based on the pruning branches. The sequence of pruning processes can be used to provide the explanations of the inferences and ways to reach the goals, as Explainable AI (XAI). The learning process is based on the pruning branches according to the multi-dimensional contextual conditions. To deep-dive the search, they are composed of time window to determine the temporal perspective, depth of phases for lookahead and decision criteria to prune branches. The goal depends on the policy of the pruning branches, which can be dynamically changed by configured situation with the specific multi-dimensional contextual conditions at a particular moment. The explanation is represented by the chosen episode among the decision alternatives according to configured situations. In this research, MEL adopts the tree-based learning model to provide explanation for the goal derived with specific conditions. Therefore, as an example of mutually exclusive problems, employment process is proposed to demonstrate the decision-making process of how to reach the goal and explanation by the pruning branches. Finally, further study is discussed to verify the effectiveness of MEL with experiments.
Background/Aims: The reimbursement policy for cryptogenic stroke (CS) was expanded in November 2018 from recurrent strokes to the first stroke episode. No reports have demonstrated whether this policy change has affected trends in implantable loop recorder (ILR) utilization. Methods: We identified patients who received an ILR implant using the Korea Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database between July 2016 and October 2021. Patients meeting all the following criteria were considered to have CS indication: 1) prior stroke history, 2) no previous history of atrial fibrillation or flutter (AF/AFL), and 3) no maintenance of oral anticoagulant for ≥4 weeks within a year before ILR implant. AF/AFL diagnosed within 3 years after ILR implant or before ILR removal was considered ILR-driven. Results: Among 3,056 patients, 1,001 (32.8%) had CS indications. The total ILR implant number gradually increased for both CS and non-CS indications and the number of CS indication significantly increased after implementing the expanded reimbursement policy. The detection rate for AF/AFL was 26.3% in CS patients over 3 years, which was significantly higher in patients implanted with an ILR within 2 months after stroke than those implanted later. Conclusions: The expanded coverage policy for CS had a significant impact on the number of ILR implantation for CS indication. The diagnostic yield of ILR for AF/AFL detection seems better when ILR is implanted within 2 months than later. Further investigation is needed to demonstrate other clinical benefits and the optimal ILR implantation timing.
The digital environment has become an integral part of human lives today. This study aimed to investigate Mukbang watching status and its association with eating behaviors, eating habits, and the nutritional status of children. We conducted a survey of the actual status of Mukbang watching, and nutrition quotient of children (NQ-C) among 222 students in elementary schools in Daejeon. The prevalence of viewing Mukbang content was 68.9%, the most common frequency of viewing was 1~2 times per month (36.5%), and the duration of watching a single episode was less than 10 minutes (54.9%). Overall, 31.4% of students responded that they ate while watching a Mukbang and, 66.0% said they felt hungry after watching a Mukbang. YouTube (82.4%) was the most common source of viewing Mukbang. The most common reason for watching Mukbang was because all the students found the content entertaining. The NQ-C score of all the subjects surveyed was 58.95, which is a moderate grade. The scores of NQ-C, balance, and practice factors were significantly higher in boys than in girls. In addition, the scores of NQ-C, and balance and moderation were significantly higher in Mukbang non-viewers than viewers for all subjects and more specifically boys. These results suggest that watching Mukbang is associated with poor nutritional status in elementary school children. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the Mukbang watching status when providing nutrition guidance to instill healthy eating habits in children.
Microcomputer Based Laboratory (MBL), by offering accurate and effective data collection and real-time graphs, enables students to reduce experiment time and, thereby, have deeper discussions concerning experimental results. This helps to emphasis the essential aspect of scientific inquiry; the process communication. Therefore, this study examined secondary school earth science MBL lessons with regards to the five basic aspects of scientific inquiry: "Asking", "Evidencing", "Explaining", "Evaluating" and "Communicating". It then investigated the level of argumentative communication between the students and teachers and also among the students themselves. For this study, three classroom activities were observed and videotaped, and teaching materials, textbooks and students' notes were collected. The transcribed data were analyzed from the perspective of scientific inquiry level and argument frames. The results showed that the scientific inquiry levels of the three classes were similar, except for the "Communicating" aspect, which appeared in only one episode. "Asking" was carried out by the teacher and then students were directed to collect certain data in the "Evidencing" stage. Furthermore, students were given possible ways to use evidence to formulate explanations and connections through the "Explaining" and "Evaluating" stages. In the argumentation analysis, most argumentative communication was identified as being associated with a given procedure, rather than with any scientific phenomena. In only one episode, did "Communicating" relate directly to any scientific phenomena. It can be concluded, that although MEL places emphasis on communication for authentic scientific inquiry, the environment required for such inquiry and argumentative communication can not be easily created in the classroom. Therefore, in order for authentic inquiry to take place in the MBL classroom, teachers should provide students with the opportunity to develop meaningful argumentation and scaffolding abilities.
Purpose : The incidence of thromboembolic episodes in children with nephrotic syndrome (NS) is low; however, these episodes are often severe. Moreover, both pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) and renal vein thrombosis (RVT) rarely show clinical symptoms. This study was performed to determine the benefits of routine screening in the detection of thrombosis in childhood NS. Methods : Among 62 children with nephrotic syndrome, a total of 54 children (43 males, 11 females) were included in this study. When the patients experienced their first NS episode, we performed renal Doppler ultrasonography in order to detect RVT. To rule out the possibility of PTE, a lung perfusion scan was performed. Computed tomographic (CT) pulmonary angiography was recommended to patients who showed possible signs of PTE. All patients were evaluated for clinical signs of thrombosis, biochemical indicators of renal disease, as well as clotting and thrombotic parameters. Results : RVT or related clinical symptoms were not observed in any children. Based on the findings of the lung perfusion scans, 15 patients (27.8%) were observed with as a high probability of PTE. We were able to perform a CT pulmonary angiography only on 12 patients, and 5 patients were diagnosed with PTE (prevalence 8.1%). The serum fibrinogen level in the group with PTE was significantly higher ($776.7{\pm}382.4mg/dL$, P<0.05) than that in the group without PTE, and other parameters were not significantly different between each group. Conclusion : Further studies are required for clarifying the role of renal Doppler ultrasonography for the detection of RVT in NS. Children with NS who developed non-specific respiratory symptoms should be evaluated for the diagnosis of PTE. In the management of NS, a lung perfusion scan should be performed at the time of the initial episode of NS regardless of the pulmonary symptoms, since patients having PTE are either often asymptomatic, or present with nonspecific symptoms.

Purpose: Recently, enterococcus spp. have become one of the most common nosocomial pathogens with increasing rates of multi-drug resistance. However, study on enterococcal urinary tract infections (UTIs) in children is very limited, especially community acquired UTIs. We studied the clinical characteristics of enterococcus spp. in community acquired UTIs and antibiotic resistance within our urban area. Methods: All children with first episode of community acquired UTIs due to enterococcus spp. and Echerichia coli who were admitted in Pusan National University Children's Hospital between January 2010 and January 2013 were included in our study. We retrospectively reviewed their medical records. Results: During the study period, 201 patients were identified to have first episode of community acquired UTIs. 154 cases were E.coli UTIs (76.6%) and 11 cases were enterococcal UTIs (5.5%) and all enterococcus spp. were Enterococcus feacalis. In enterococcal UTI group, voiding cystourethrogram(VCUG) was performed in 7/11 patients and demonstrated 4 vesicoureteral refluxes (VURs) with renal scar and 3 patients underwent corrective surgery. In E.coli UTI group, VCUG was performed in 121/154 patients and demonstrated 23 VURs and 11 patients underwent corrective surgery. Enterococcal group had significant high rate of underlying urinary abnormalities and surgical corrections compared with E. coli group. All enterococcus spp. were susceptible to ampicillin, vancomycin and linezolid, but all were resistant to tetracycline. They also showed 71.4% resistance to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and 20% resistance to ciprofloxacin. Conclusion: Community acquired enterococcal UTIs in children were rare within our urban area. However, they could be indicative of severe underlying urinary tract abnormalities.
Purpose : To find and solve the common problems of peritoneal dialysis(PD) by analysing the clinical data of pediatric PD performed in Korea. Methods : 264 cases of CAPD and acute PD had been performed from Nov.1987 to Oct. 1997 in 17 institutions of pediatric nephrology in Korea. Results : CAPD was performed in 114 cases. The mean age of the patients was $10.5{\pm}6.6$ years and male to female ratio was 1.4:1. The original renal diseases of ESRD were proven in 92 cases($80\%$). The common renal disease of ESRD were FSGS($17\%$), reflux nephropathy ($11\%$), chronic glomerulonephritis($9.6\%$). Mean duration of CAPD was $20{\pm}16.9$ months. Peritonitis was the most common complication and incidence was one episode/18.2 patient-months. Other complications were exit site infection in 10 cases, obstruction in 7 cases, leakage of dialysate in 6 cases. The most common etiologic organism of peritonitis was staphylococcus aureus and the next was staphylococcus coagulase(-). Acute PD was performed in 150 cases. Most common underlying causes were congenital heart disease, hemolytic uremic syndrome, sepsis and dehydration. The mean duration was $10.3{\pm}11.3$ days. The most common complication was peritonitis($20.6\%$). The most common etiologic organism was staphylococcus aureus and coagulase(-), acinetobactor and pseudomonas. Conclusion : Reflux nephropathy should be emphasized in early diagnosis and treatment to prevent ESRD. Incidence of congenital anomaly($7\%$) as a original disease of ESRD was relatively low in Korea. Growth status was not significantly improved after CAPD. In acute PD, the incidence of peritonitis was rapidly increased at 2weeks after beginning of dialysis.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine how much acid exposure would occur in the proximal esophagus, both in normal and in patients with abnormal distal esophageal acid exposure. Methods: Fourty-six patients with suspected GER were classified into two groups, 24 patients with pathological distal reflux (group I); 22 patients with normal distal reflux (group II). The ambulatory dual-probe esophageal pH monitoring was performed for 18-24hr. The abnormal reflux was defined when the percent of time that pH was below 4.0 exceeded the 95th percentile of normal value. Results: The siginficant differences between distal and proximal esophageal pH recordings in group I persisted for all parameters except for the longest episode, but didn't persist in group II. At the distal esophageal site, the median percent time with pH<4.0 in group I was 19.3 and significantly higher than at proximal site. Half of patients with pathological distal reflux also had proximal acid reflux. Correlation coefficients between the distal and proximal esophageal sites in group I of the number of reflux episodes and time of the longest episode were 0.451 and 0.646 respectively. Conclusion: The 50 percent of patients with pathological distal acid reflux also had abnormal acid exposure in the proximal esophageal site. Therefore, we recommand simultaneous pH recordings from dual probe esophageal sites in children with gastroesophageal reflux.
