Adsorption Removal of Eosin Y by Granular Activated Carbon (입자상 활성탄에 의한 Eosin Y의 홉착제거)

  • Eosin Y is used a colorant and dye but eosin Y is harmful toxic substance. In this study, the adsorption characteristics of granular activated carbon have been investigated for the adsorption of eosin dye dissolved in water. The effects of initial dye concentration, contact time, pH and temperature on adsorption of eosin by a fixed amount of activated carbon have been studied in batch adsorber and fixed bed. The adsorptivity of activated carbon for eosin Y were largely improved by pH control. When the pH was 3 in the sample, the eosin Y could be removed 99% of initial concentration (10 mg/L). The adsorption equilibrium data are successfully fitted to the Freundlich isotherm equation in the temperature range from 293 to 333 K. The estimated values of k and ${\beta}$ are 19.56-134.62, 0.442-0.678, respectively. The effects of the operation conditions of the fixed bed on the breakthrough curve were investigated. When the inlet eosin Y concentration is increased from 10 to 30 mg/L, the corresponding adsorption breaktime appears to decrease from 470 to 268 min at bed height of 3 cm and a constant flow rate of 2 g/min. When the initial eosin Y flow rate is increased from 1 to 3 g/min, the corresponding adsorption breaktime appears to decrease from 272 to 140 min at bed height of 3 cm and inlet concentration of 10 mg/L. Also, breaktime increased with increasing bed height at flow rate of 2 g/min and inlet concentration of 10 mg/L. And length of adsorption zone showed similar patterns.

  • The viability and developmental potential of rat oocyte was assessed by the use of eosin B. Dye was prepared as a stock solution to contain 1.0 mg eosin B per ml of Brinster's Medium for Ovum Culture plus glucose (BMOC) -2 medium. Three dye concentrations were selected for the Oocytes from rat ovarian follicles were collected and assessed under various conditions of heat oocyte studies by dilution of the stock solution with BMOC: 0.12mM, 0.60mM and 1.20mM. treatment and preservation duration by dye exc¬lusion assay using eosin B. It is suggested that live oocyte excludes eosin B whereas dead oocyte does not.

Response Surface Modeling for the Adsorption of Dye Eosin Y by Activated Carbon Prepared from Waste Citrus Peel (폐감귤박으로 만든 활성탄을 이용한 염료 Eosin Y 흡착에서 반응표면 모델링)

  • The adsorption of Eosin Y by the activated carbon (WCAC) prepared from waste citrus peel was investigated by using response surface methodology (RSM) and Box-Behnken design (BBD) statistical procedures. Experiments were carried out as per BBD with three input parameters, the Eosin Y concentration (Conc. : 30~50 mg/L), the solution temperature (Temp. : 293~313 K), and the adsorbent dose (Dose : 0.05~0.15 g/L). Regression analysis showed a good fit of the experimental data to the second-order polynomial model with coefficients of the determination ($R^2$) value of 0.9851 and P-value (Lack of fit) of 0.342. An optimum dye uptake of 59.3 mg/g was achieved at the dye concentration of 50 mg/L, the temperature of 333 K, and the adsorbent dose of 0.1056 g. The adsorption process of Eosin Y by WCAC can be well described by the pseudo second order kinetic model. The experimental data followed the Langmuir isotherm model.

  • The adsorption behavior of Eosin Y on activated carbon (AC) in batch system was investigated. The adsorption isotherm could be well fitted by the Langmuir adsorption equation. The kinetics of adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order model. The temperature variation was used to evaluate the values of free energy (${\Delta}G^{\circ}$), enthalpy (${\Delta}H^{\circ}$) and entropy (${\Delta}S^{\circ}$). The positive value of enthalpy change ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ for the process confirms the endothermic nature of the process and more favourable at higher temperature, the positive entropy of adsorption ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ reflects the affinity of the AC material toward Eosin Y and the negative free energy values ${\Delta}G^{\circ}$ indicate that the adsorption process is spontaneous. With the increase of the amount of AC, removal efficiency of Eosin Y was increased, but adsorption capacity was decreased. And adsorption capacity was increased with the decrease of particle size. With the increase of the amount of AC, removal efficiency of Eosin Y was increased, but adsorption capacity was decreased. And adsorption capacity was increased with the decrease of particle size.

Equilibrium Kinetics and Thermodynamic Parameters Studies for Eosin Yellow Adsorption by Activated Carbon (활성탄에 의한 Eosin Yellow의 흡착에 대한 평형, 동력학 및 열역학 파라미터에 관한 연구)

  • Eosin yellow is used a dye and colorant but it is harmful toxic substance. In this paper, batch adsorption studies were carried out for equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamic parameters for eosin yellow adsorption by activated carbon with varying the operating variables like pH, initial concentration, contact time. Equilibrium adsorption data were fitted into Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms. By estimated Langmuir constant value, $R_L$=0.067-0.083, and Freundlich constant value, $\frac{1}{n}=0.237-0.267$, this process could be employed as effective treatment for removal of eosin yellow. From calculated Temkin constant, value, B=1.868-2.855 J/mol, and Dubinin-Radushkevich constant, value, E=5.345-5.735 kJ/mol, this adsorption process is physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process were found to confirm to the pseudo second order model with good correlation coefficient($r^2$=0.995-0.998). The mechanism of the adsorption process was determined two step like as boundary and intraparticle diffusion.

  • In serious crimes, bloody fingerprints are crucial evidence that make links between suspects and victims. There have been many studies related to bloody fingerprints for a long time. There are many comparative studies for effectiveness of Acid Fuchsin and Acid Yellow 7, but nothing about Eosin-Y in this country. Acid Fuchsin is a useful reagent that has unique red color distinguishing from light colored background. but it is useless on dark surfaces. In order to make it visible, we should use BVDA Gel lifters. On the contrary this, Acid Yellow 7 makes stronger fluorescence on a dark background. In this study, we got the conclusion that Eosin-Y is more useful than the others not only on dark background but also light background.

  • Adsorption characteristics of Eosin Y dye by carbon nano tubes (CNTs) were examined through batch experiments. CNTs used in the study had specific surface area of $106.9m^2/g$, porosity volume of $1.806cm^3/g$, and porosity diameter of $163.2{\AA}$, respectively. Adsorption experiments were carried out as function of contact time, initial solution pH (2~10), dye concentration (100, 150 and 200 mg/L), adsorbent dose (0.05~1.0 g) and temperature (293, 313 and 333 K). The adsorption was favoured at lower pHs and temperatures. Adsorption data were well described by the Langmuir model. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The adsorption capacity decreased with increase in temperature. The results of the intraparticle diffusion model suggested that film diffusion and particle diffusion were simultaneously occured during the adsorption process. Thermodynamic studies suggested the spontaneous and endothermic nature of adsorption of Eosin Y dye onto CNTs.

  • The electrochemical spectral sensitization of a $SnO_2$ electrode with eosin B, a Xanthene dye, has been studied in acetonitrile. Measurements of the photocurrent have been carried out in the presence of supersensitizers such as thiourea, 1-allyl-2-thiourea, NaSCN, and NaI. The magnitude of the supersensitized photocurrent was greater than that of the sensitized photocurrent for all of the supersensitizers studied. However, the long time span of irradiation causes a significant decrease of the supersensitized photocurrent as well as the absorbance. These results, together with infrared spectra and fluorescence spectra, are taken into account to elucidate the mechanism of photoreaction between eosin B and supersensitizers in acetonitrile.

  • This study aimed to compare effectiveness of fluorescent reagents for enhancing blood such as acid yellow 7, rhodamine 6G, eosin Y. AY7 and eosin Y have been introduced in Korea as fluorescent reagents for enhancing blood, but not rhodamine 6G. In this study, researchers photographed when each reagents gave the most effective results. Consequently, rhodamine 6G was superior to the others. Eosin Y enhanced bloody fingermarks weakly compared to AY7 and rhodamine 6G. Furthermore, the more depletion trials were done, the less effectiveness were shown. Therefore, researchers recommended that crime scene investigators try to use rhodamine 6G fluorescent reagents for enhancing blood.

Diffraction Efficiency Improvement of PVA/AA/SeO2 Photopolymer with Various Film Thickness and Eosin Y Contents (PVA/AA/SeO2 광고분자 필름의 두께 및 Eosin Y 함량 변화에 따른 회절효율 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Photopolymer is evaluated as better material than the others used for hologram storage, due to many advantages, such as high diffraction efficiency, easy processing, and self-developing. In this study, chalcogenide inorganic compound ($SeO_2$) which has optical activity, was added to polyvinyl alcohol/acrylamide photopolymer films. In order to optimize diffraction efficiency of these photopolymer films, we prepared the photopolymer films with various film thicknesses and Eosin Y content. Diffraction efficiency of the photopolymer films were measured using a 532 nm laser at $40^{\circ}$ incident angle. As a result, the phtopolymer film with Eosin Y content of 0.0045 g and thickness of $297{\mu}m$ showed the highest diffraction efficiency (78.70%).
