  • As for safety assessment of a radioactive waste disposal facility, radiation dose to inadvertent intruders is evaluated according to scenarios related to intruder's postulated activities at the disposal site after the end of Institutional Control Period(ICP). Simple trench and Below Ground Vault(BGV) are considered for this study as alternative disposal systems, and different scenarios are applied to each disposal type. The results show that 300 years of ICP is needed for simple trench and 100 years for BGV. Even for BGV, concentration of long-lived radioactive nuclides should be limited considering degradation of BGV after 300 years.

  • This study investigates the effect of technological and environmental factors on the cloud computing assimilation, which then affects firms' performance. The technological characteristics include cost-savings, technology use advantage, technology infrastructure, and technology compatibility while environmental characteristics include partner cooperation, competitive pressure, environmental uncertainty, and business agility. Furthermore, we examine inter-organizational trust as a moderating effect between environmental characteristics and cloud computing assimilation. Data from a sample of 219 firms show the significant impacts of proposed variables with exception of technology infrastructure and technology compatibility. The findings also show that inter-organizational trust has a significant moderating effect in all paths except the one between business agility and cloud computing assimilation. The implication of this study suggests a theoretical framework explaining cloud computing assimilation and performance within inter-organizational environment.

  • Bioprospecting has been widely used to assess the economic potential of different plant species and their value-addition. Prospecting for biological material like plants with medicinal or other economically valuable properties like fibre or oil is becoming a dynamic activity. Our folklore with embedded cultural heritage has tremendous possibilities and potential for bioprospecting. This forest region of Western Rajasthan is enriched with diverse vegetational wealth, if subjected to bioprospecting may prove to be a boon for the society.

  • In accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.207, Rev.1, fatigue assessments must be conducted considering the influence of primary coolant environment in nuclear reactors. Environmental fatigue, resulting from corrosion in the primary coolant, is evaluated in air fatigue life assessments through the application of an environmental fatigue correction factor. This environmental fatigue correction factor depends on sulfur content, operating temperature, dissolved oxygen, and strain rate. It remains constant for sulfur content, operating temperature, and dissolved oxygen, while strain rate introduces potential errors based on the analysis method. The current fatigue evaluation procedure for air, following ASME B&PV Code Sec.III, NB-3200, employs elastic analysis with a simplified elastic-plastic correction factor(Ke). However, Ke factor is considered excessively conservative, prompting less conservative alternatives proposed by JSME, RCC-M, ASME Code Case N-779. This study applied both ASME Ke and JSME Ke for fatigue evaluations considering environmental effects. Additionally, fatigue assessments accounting for elastic-plastic effects were conducted using Neuber and Glinka methods, compared with actual experiments. The analysis systematically examined changes in fatigue life and the environmental fatigue correction factor due to plastic effects in environmental fatigue evaluations.

  • 2-Methylisoborneol (2-MIB) is one of typical odorants in potable water sources, which is hardly removed by conventional water treatment process. In this study, three strains capable of removing 2-MIB singly from drinking water were isolated from activated carbon of sand filter. They were identified to be Shinella zoogloeoides, Bacillus idriensis and Chitinophagaceae bacterium based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. In mineral salts medium without external carbon source, removal efficiencies of $20{\mu}g/L$ 2-MIB in three days were 23.3%, 32.9% and 17.0% for Shinella zoogloeoides, Bacillus idriensis and Chitinophagaceae bacterium, respectively. The biodegradation of 2-MIB was significantly improved with the presence of cometabolism carbon(glycerol, glucose, etc.). In the period of 20 days, Bacillus idriensis can remove 2 mg/L MIB to $368.2{\mu}g/L$ and $315.4{\mu}g/L$ in mineral salts medium without and with glycerol respectively. The removal of 2-MIB by Bacillus idriensis was from 2 mg/L to $958.4{\mu}g/L$ in Xiba river samples on 15 days.

  • The Korean government amended the Environmental Technology and Industry Support Act to foster the environment industry and support the advancement of domestic environmental companies into overseas markets. The amended act reflects changes in the government's policies on environment related issues. This paper uses outcomes of research conducted on environmental policies in foreign countries and the current status of the domestic environment industry to present long-term strategic plans and measures to support the expansion of environmental companies into the global markets and to vitalize the environment industry at home. The suggestions for assisting domestic companies in making inroads into overseas markets are as follows: building up and expanding cooperative network; fostering promising companies and exports by making the right choices and focuses; diversification of export markets and strengthening supports for development of new customers; promoting supports for winning overseas projects; and developing cooperative projects to respond to climate change in developing countries using the Global Climate Fund (GCF).

  • Hospital design technology of Korea has recently been exported to underdeveloped countries through the EDCF business. This business reflects our high technology of the hospital design and the regional features that reflect the natural environments, the architectural features and the architectural technology of underdeveloped countries. In accordance with the trend of the global environmental-friendly design market, introduction of environmental-friendly design is needed in the project of hospital for underdeveloped countries. A result of examining the Bangladesh case, the hospital design for the underdeveloped countries already contains a lots of environmental-friendly design elements which have lots of effect. In addition, these environmental elements already contains the advantage and efficiency of operation. Thus, for the success of the hospital design project of the international assistance business, it is necessary actively to discover the environmental-friendly design elements of the region, and to survey the environmental-friendly construction of the region and to make the guidelines of environmental-friendly hospital design during the feasibility study phase.

  • Organic fouling and biofouling pose a significant challenge to the membrane filtration process. Photocatalysis-membrane hybrid system is a novel idea for reducing these membranes fouling however, when $TiO_2 photocatalyst nanoparticles are used in suspension, catalyst recovery is not only imposes an extra step on the process but also significantly contributes to increased membrane resistance and reduced permeate flux. In this study, $TiO_2$ photocatalyst has been immobilized by coating on the microfiltration (MF) membrane surface to minimize organic and microbial fouling. Nano-sized $TiO_2$ was first synthesized by a sol-gel method. The synthesized $TiO_2$ was coated on a Poly Vinyl Difluoride (PVDF) membrane (MF) surface using spray coating and dip coating techniques to obtain hybrid functional composite membrane. The characteristics of the synthesized photocatalyst and a functional composite membrane were studied using numerous instruments in terms of physical, chemical and electrical properties. In comparison to the clean PVDF membrane, the $TiO_2$ coated MF membrane was found more effective in removing methylene blue (20%) and E-coli (99%).

  • This paper is concerned with an experimental study of a turbocharged diesel engine operating on dimethyl ether(DME). The combustion and emission characteristics of DME engine were investigated. The results showed that the maximum torque and power with DME could achieve a greater level compared to diesel operation, particularly at low speeds; the brake specific fuel consumption with DME was lower than the diesel at low and middle engine speeds. The injection delay of DME was longer than that of diesel. However, the maximum cylinder pressure, maximum pressure rise rate and combustion noises of DME engine were lower than those of diesel. The combustion velocity of DME was faster than that of diesel, resulting in a shorter combustion duration of DME. Compared with the diesel engine, $NO_x$ emissions of the DME engine were reduced by 41.6% on ESC data. The DME engine was smoke free at all operating points of the engine.
