  • Using end-user attitude as intervening variable, this paper proposes a causal model of how environmental factors of EUC influence end-user computing (EUC) success, measured by the degree of IS use. This study identifies unique aspects of the EUC environment and generates key dimensions of end-user attitude appropriate for this context : perceived information quality, perceived design quality, and perceived usefulness. The research model includes six environmental factors - top management support, end-user education, task variability, task analyzability, end-user's computing ability, and end-user involvement. A field study was undertaken to test the hypothesized relationships among the research variables. The results generally support the assumption that end-user attitude intervene the impact of environmental factors on IS use. The implications of the findings are discussed.

  • In the information age, cheap price of information processing and advances in personalization technology have allowed companies to enhance the relationships with their existing customers and to expand their customer base by effectively attracting new customers. However, most customers are reluctant to provide their personal information to companies. This study explores the tension between companies' desire to collect personal information to offer personalized services and their customers' privacy concerns. The psychological reactance theory suggests that when individuals feel that their behavioral choice is threatened or restricted, they are motivated to restore their freedom. Therefore, despite the expected benefits from personalized services, customers may perceive the services to be restrictive of their freedom to choose. This adverse effect may undermine the relationships between companies and their customers. We conducted experiments to explore the dynamic roles of transactional and environmental factors in motivating customers to provide personal information. We revisited online privacy issues from the perspective of psychological reactance. For the experiments, we created an online shop and randomly assigned the participants to one of the two experimental conditions-high and low levels of information requirements. The results of the experiment indicate that threatening the free choice serves as a transactional cost in online profiling. On the other hand, the expected benefits of personalization services have positive correlations with customers' willingness to provide personal information. This study explains privacy based on transactional and environmental factors. Our findings also indicate that the environmental factors such as the Internet privacy risk and trust propensity do not significantly affect the willingness to provide personal information when firms required much personal information. Implications and contributions are discussed.

  • Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is an important part of interorganizational electronic commerce due to the strategic impact derived from its use. In order to ensure successful implementation of EDI, EDI controls must first be developed. Because they are implemented in an environmental context, the characteristics of organizational environments have a significant impact on EDI controls. The control strategy for the EDI system - formal, informal, and automated controls - should fit certain organizational environments. A research model has been developed to depict the moderating effects of six environmental variables including industry, organizational, and task characteristics on the relationships between controls and implementation. It is shown empirically that the relationships between EDI controls and implementation are indeed affected by these factors. The results can help management design formal, informal, and automated controls in view of their own environmental contexts.

  • Life-Cycle Engineering(LCE) is a decision-making methodology that considers environmental and cost needs during the product life-cycle. Environmental conscious design and manufacturing has become more and more important and it has been enforced by governmental regulations and used as trade restriction. LCE involves integrating environmental consideration into new product development including design, material selection, manufacturing processes and distribution of the product to the consumers, plus the end-of-life management such as disassembly, material recovery, remanufacturing of the product after discarding it. In this paper, a state-of-the-art survey of LCE is presented.

  • Unlike traditional environmental problems, current environmental problems occur due to by complex reasons. These complexities highlight the importance of precise spatial based analysis and expeditive use of environmental information when an environmental problem arises. However, the traditional environmental information has many problems because they are mainly numerical based and scattered in various systems. To overcome these problems, providing integrated environmental spatial information is important. Thus, a research was conducted on establishing national environment atlas system and its implications for policies. Firstly, this study selects 275 out of 2,701 materials and information from Ministry of Environment and related organizations. Secondly, total 64 thematic maps specific business support are Produced to support establishment and implementation of environmental policies. In addition, the produced thematic maps are privatized. Thirdly, the study analyzes total 17 systems and environmental thematic maps of Ministry of Environment and relevant organizations to connect the information on the business support thematic maps. As a result, 1,314 applicable spatial information and 39,331 applicable database based on spatial information based are selected, and a standardization plan is established. Fourthly, the study suggests a stepwise implementation plan for developing a national environment atlas system. The development of national environment atlas system will help establishing an environmental policy based on more relevant and accurale information.

  • This study is to find out empirically the success factors on the development stages of e-business in Korean enterprises, to formulate e-business strategy and to decide e-business policy. For this purpose, the study reviews the conceptual framework on the success factors for the development stages of e-business and the data is collected from 304 companies implementing e-business. The study is conducted in three ophases an follows; First, according to this study, the development stage of e-business in Korean Enterprises is between 'Information Access Stage' and 'Core Business Transaction Stage'. Second, four factors comsisted of 29 items derived from factor analysis are named as 'Environmental Adaptation','Customer Relationship management','Marketing' and 'Environment of Organization'. Third, the success factors of first stage(Information Access Statge) include 'Marketing' and 'Environmental Adapotation', the success factors of second stage(Electronic Collaboration Stage) include 'Environmental Adaptation' and 'Environment of Organization' and the success factor of third stage(Core Business Transaction Stage) include 'Environment of Organization'. The results of this study show that; 1) the Korean enterprise seems to be in the Electronic Collaboration Stage of e-business development, and 2) the success factors are 'Marketing' for first stage, 'Environmental Adaptation' for second stage, and 'Environment of Organization' for third stage.

  • It is important to improve the efficiencies of motors to overcome problems such as decreasing energy reserves and environmental pollution. Superconductors are promising for developing high-efficiency motors. However, superconducting wires must be kept in critical conditions and the AC loss needs to be minimized. In this paper, a design of a superconducting interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is proposed that reduces the AC loss. The characteristics of superconducting and normal-conducting IPMSMs are compared. The proposed superconducting IPMSM has a low AC loss and a very high efficiency at low speeds.

  • Development projects and related environmental impacts take place in space. Therefore, it is important to use spatial information in the environmental impact assessment process. This study proposes to construct spatial information produced by various organizations as an inventory and suggests it to be utilized in environmental impact assessment process. For this purpose, investigate the use of spatial information in the environmental impact assessment process and list of environmental space information provided by public information systems. and applied the methodology derived from previous studies to build an inventory of spatial information using environmental impact assessment. The spatial information utilized in the environmental impact assessment work was 64 items. Based on the data availability, linkage and renewability, the spatial information of the Environment that can be used for the environmental impact assessment was 45 items. Finally 49 items, including 19 new items were presented as an inventory, contributing to the performance of environmental impact assessment based on spatial information.

  • The availability of Information Technology in geological and engineering geological fields is rapidly increasing in Korea. Especially GIS-based hazard mapping is the most distinctive part to predict a possibility of landslide occurrence. Integrated expert system for tunnel construction is also practically used to manage investigated or designed data and to predict un-known underground geological condition. Computer-based field data acquisition tools are also one of the typical part using information technology including GIS combined with mobile phone in Geological field.
