Pneumatic Active Engine Mount(PAEM) with open-loop control system has been developed to reduce the transmission of the idle-shake vibration induced by engine effectively and economically. A solenoid valve installed between PAEM and vacuum tank is on-off switched by the Pulse Width Modulate(PWM) control signal to decrease the dynamic stiffness of the engine mount. This paper presents the methodology to identify the optimal values of control parameters of a PAEM, i.e, turn-on timing and duty ratio of PWM signal for 6 different idle driving conditions. A scanning algorithm was first applied to the vehicle test to obtain the approximate optimal control parameters minimizing the vibration at front seat rail and at steering wheel. Then the PAEM system identification was fulfilled to find accurate optimal control parameters by using multi-layer neural networks of Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm with vehicle test data.

A gas driven heat pump (GHP) core design comprises internal combustion engine, compressors incorporated to a cooling/heating system, rubber mountings and belt transmissions. Main excitation farces are generated by an engine, compressors themselves and belt fluctuation. It leads to high vibration level of the mount that can cause damage of GHP elements. Therefore an appropriate design of the mounting system is crucial in terms of reliability and vibration reduction. In this paper oscillation of the engine mount is explored both experimentally and analytically. Experimental analysis of natural frequencies and operational frequency response of the GHP engine mounting system enables to create simplified model for numerical and analytical investigations. It is worked out criteria f3r vibration abatement of the isolated structure. Influence of bracket stiffness between engine and compressors, suspension locations and damper performance is investigated. Ways to reduce excitation forces and improve dynamic performance of the engine-compressor mounting system are considered from these analyses. Implementation of the proposed approach permits to choose appropriate rubber mountings and their location as well as joining elements design A phase matching technique can be employed to control forces from main exciters. It enables to changing vibration response of the structure by control of natural modes contribution. Proposed changes lead to significant vibration reduction and can be easily utilized in engineering practice.

In this paper, a sliding mode controller of a fluid engine mount using MR (Magneto-Rheological) fluid was discussed When the MR fluid is applied to a fluid mount, resistance of MR fluid can be controlled by electro-magnetic valve installed in the inertia track. Since the rheological property of the MR fluid shows a function of shear rate, the damping characteristics of the mount will be change according to the frequency. Changing an applied magnetic field to the valve changes the property of the mount, such as the resistance of the MR fluid, the notch and the resonant frequencies due to the fluid passing, quantity of the fluid passing, the effective piston area of the volumetric damping and stiffness. Therefore, the fluid mount using MR fluid can be regarded as a variable structure system The sliding mode control known well as a particular type of variable structure control was introduced in this study. The sliding mode control, which has inherent robustness, is also expected to improve the control performance in the engine mount The sliding mode controller for the mount formatted by taking into account the response property with a time constant to MR fluid and the variable mount property. The motion equations of the fluid mount are derived from Newton's law of motion and used in numerical simulation. Numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the sliding mode controller.

The development of transportation and construction equipment has required higher engine power and lower operation cost. The sound which the engine emits often degrade the performance of the whole system which adopts that engine. Specially the marine engine requires high restriction on the noise level for the customer's comfort and safety. The noise and vibration of Diesel engine must be carefully considered in the early design step. The double antivibration system is effective to increase the efficiency of antivibration, and the acoustic enclosure for reducing the noise level. 2 DOF model was effective to estimate the antivibration performance, which allows to determine the mass of the engine bed and the specification of the engine mount. The mass distribution of the enclosure system can be considered effectively by using the FEM model. The design contains structurally rigid engine bed by FEM, which is for reducing the influence of the flexible vibration, rubber mount selection as well as the acoustic enclosure design.

The engine excitation forces are considered as major vibration source for the forklift truck, especially in small class. Even though the current engine mounting system designs are acceptable for vibration isolation, the performance of the engine mounting system is still required for the tendency of light weight, higher power and driver's higher vibration requirement. In this paper vibration reduction technique of forklift engine which is supported on rubber mounts is presented. Based on the dynamic model of resilient engine mounting system, design evaluation program is established. The design optimization technique and evaluation method of system properties are discussed. Effects of optimal design are validated through comparison with test results.

Air-Damping Mount is proposed to compromise between performance and weight & cost. The design of Air-Damping Mount was based on the specification from the engine mounting system analysis of a small car. To verify it's feasibility, R&H test was done on the small car and it is proven that Air-Damping Mount shows the performance between hydraulic mount and rubber mount.

In this paper, classical vibration theories are summarized to design engine mount system of passenger vehicles. The vibrational characteristics of powertrain system and its equation of motion are introduced. Based upon the equation, the concept of the center of gravity, the principle inertia axis, the elastic center, and the elastic axis are defined and some new concepts are suggested. The theory of mode decoupling and the relationship between TRA (Torque Roll Axis) and roll mode are also reexamined to support the design concept of engine mount systems.

Driving of the engine makes unbalance forces which induces vibration to the engine mount system. Active vibration control must be performed to reduce the vibration and the propagation of structure-born sound. In this study, the engine system is modeled as 3-dim. vibration system including flexible structures and an effective active noise control method is proposed. Also, appropriate actuator and sensor locations and types are selected. The miniature of the engine vibration system with multi-input multi-output is built and an active vibration control with multiple filtered-X LMS algorithm is applied to it. The applied control method was effective to reduce the transmitted vibration power through the rubber mount It showed the feasibility of the control of the engine vibration systems with flexible structures.

This paper shows that is possible to identify the system's input-output dynamics exactly in the presence of unknown periodic disturbances for the Active Engine Mount Control Application .The disturbance frequencies and waveforms can be completely unknown and arbitrary. Only measurements of a control excitation signal and the disturbance-contaminated response are used for identification. Examples are given to illustrate the method, including the identification and vibration control of active engine mount for automobile.
