  • The proposal of this paper is the constructing of knowledge database with manufacturing information. This database contains characteristics of workpiece materials, cutting tools, NC machines, manufacturing processes, and work conditions. And all shape in the system are feature models such base plate, step, hole, pocket, boss, and slot. These information generate a final decision for machining process by the expert system.

Development of Expert System for Tower Cranes

  • The paper is concerned with application to develop the expert system, which structural analysis and design process for tower cranes. The system is organized into three groups. One is pre-processor for creating input data files, another is `model former' which combines knowledge-base with inference engine for automatic generating structural analysis models, a third is application group for final analysis checks. In this study, geometric subroutine of `model former' designates node positions, nodes, elements numbers and element types. Load data subroutine computes weight of tower crane and device, slewing force, cargo load, wind force form rules or equations in knowledge-base. Also, Property and boundary subroutine applies element properties and boundary conditions to suitable elements and nodes. Design and analysis expert system for tower crane integrates these subroutine, `model former' and pre-processor. RBR(Rule-Base Reasoning) was adopted for a reasoning strategy of this expert system. And this expert system can produce structural analysis model and data, which can be used in ordinary structural analysis program (SAP, ADINA or NASTRAN, etc.). In this paper, this expert system produces format of the analysis model data, which are used in MSC/NASTRAN. The main discussions included in the paper are introduction of the tower crane and structural analysis, composition of the design expert system for tower crane and structural analysis using the expert system.

  • A lubricant used in the transport sector have been developed for the purpose of improving vehicle performance. To improve the engine oil for some terrible conditions, various studies have been conducted to improve vehicle performance. There are limitations in development of lubricant for the economic point, but various additives have beed developed in the technical point. Recently, government tried to prohibit reckless use of additives in base oil because of the environmental issues. The institutionalized quality standards of the additives has been estabilished. In this study, physicochemical properties and environmental effect of vehicle engine oils in domestic sector were investigated.

A Study on Lubrication Characteristics of Automotive Engine Oil Merchandised in Domestic (국내 판매되는 자동차용 엔진오일의 윤활특성 연구)

  • The effect of oxidation in SAE 5W30 engine oils on friction and wear characteristics was investigated using reciprocating bench tester and shell 4-ball tester. Commercial engine oils were collected and oxidized using the KS M 2021 method modifying the oxidation time. Kinematic viscosity, total acid number(TAN), FT-IR spectrum and total base number(TBN) also measured to examine the chemical change of oils with oxidation. The results showed that TAN was slightly changed and Kinematic viscosity was suddenly increased during the oxidation stage. however, TBN results keep a constant slope after TBN linearly decreased with oxidation time. Spectroscopy results showed that spectrums were orderly increased at $1710cm^{-1}$ during the oxidation time. Friction test results showed that oxidation of oils formed unstable friction layers causing higher fluctuating friction. however, the wear resistance was independent of oxidized time due to the different friction characteristics by oxidation. We found several factors in relation to lubrication properties with oxidation time. This factors were Viscosity, TBN, change of FT-IR spectrum, friction coefficient using reciprocating bench tester and wear scar.

  • This work proposes a GUI-type on-line diagnostic program using SIMULINK and Fuzzy-Neuro algorithms for a helicopter turboshaft engine. During development of the diagnostic program, a look-up table type base performance module for reducing computer calculating time and a signal generation module for simulating real time performance data are used. This program is composed of the on-line condition monitoring program to monitor on-line measuring performance condition, the fuzzy inference system to isolate the faults from measuring data and the neural network to quantify the isolated faults. The reliability and capability of the proposed on-line diagnostic program were confirmed through application to the helicopter engine health monitoring.

  • This study was performed to investigate the behavior and spatial distribution of fuel mixtures with different wall angle and diameter of piston cavity in a DI gasoline engine. The spatial distribution of fuel mixtures after impingement of the spray against a piston cavity is one of the most important. factors for the stratification of fuel mixture. Thus, it is informative to understand in detail the behavior and spatial distribution of fuel mixtures after impingement in the cavity. Two dimensional spray fluorescence images of liquid and vapor phase were acquired to analyze the behavior and distribution of fuel mixtures inside cylinder by exciplex fluorescence method. The exciplex system of fluorobenzene/DEMA in non-fluorescing base fuel of hexane was employed. Cavity wall angle was defined as an exterior angle of piston cavity. Wall angles of the piston cavity were set to 30, 60 and 90 degrees, respectively. The spray impinges on the cavity and diffuses along the cavity wall by its momentum. In the case of 30 degrees, the rolling-up moved from the impinging location to the round and fuel-rich mixture distributed at periphery of cylinder. In the case of 60 and 90 degrees, the rolling-up recircurated in the cavity and fuel mixtures concentrated at center region. High concentrated fuel vapor phase was observed in the cavity with 90 degrees. From. present study, it was found that the desirable cavity wall angle with cavity diameter for stratification in a Dl gasoline engine was demonstrated.

  • The range of Internet usage is drastically broadened and diversed from information retrieval and collection to many different functions. Contrasting to the increase of Internet use, the efficiency of finding necessary information is decreased. Therefore, the need of information system which provides customized information is emerged. Our research proposes Web Service based recommendation system which employes inference engine to find and recommend the most appropriate products for users. Web applications in present provide useful information for users while they still carry the problem of overcoming different platforms and distributed computing environment. The need of standardized and systematic approach is necessary for easier communication and coherent system development through heterogeneous environments. Web Service is programming language independent and improves interoperability by describing, deploying, and executing modularized applications through network. The paper focuses on developing Web Service based recommendation system which will provide benchmarks of Web Service realization. It is done by integrating inference engine where the dynamics of information and user preferences are taken into account.

The Study of Mechanical Properties of Degraded Compacted Graphite Iron(CGI) Under 873~1273 K (873~1273 K에서 열화된 강화흑연강의 기계적 특성 연구)

  • Compacted graphite iron(CGI), also known as vermicular graphite iron, is a metal which is gaining popularity in applications that require either greater strength, or lower weight than cast iron. Recently compacted graphite iron has been used for diesel engine blocks. Considering that using in exhaust manifold of the diesel engine, CGI340 was conducted the heat treatment during 1 hour to 96 hours from 873 to 1273 K. Mechanical characteristics were evaluated. The obtained results are as follows; The tensile strength of the heat treated specimens showed overall lower tensile strength than that of the base metal. Tensile strength decreases with increasing of heat treatment time, and the higher heat treatment temperature and the longer time, were more reduced. The fatigue limit by the ultrasonic fatigue test was approximately 130 MPa of base metal, 100 MPa of 1173 K (96 hrs) specimen, respectively. The hardness decreases with increasing heat treatment time, and the higher the heat treatment temperature was lowered hardness distribution. In CGI340, average hardness of nodular graphite was 120 Hv, average hardness of vermicular graphite was 114 Hv. This showed lower hardness than the base structure ferrite. The nodular graphite and vermicular graphite according to the heat treatment temperature and time didn't have a consistent change. However, the grain size of base structure grew with increasing of heat treatment time.

Theoretical Study on Fuel Savings of Marine Diesel Engine by Exhaust-Gas Heat-Recovery System of Combined Cycle (복합 사이클의 배기가스 열회수 시스템에 의한 선박용 디젤엔진의 연료 절약에 관한 이론적 연구)

  • The thermodynamic characteristics of a combined cycle applied with a topping cycle such as a trilateral cycle at relatively high temperatures and a bottoming cycle such as an organic Rankine cycle at relatively low temperatures have been theoretically investigated. This is an electric generation system used to recover the waste heat of the exhaust gas from a diesel engine used for the propulsion of a large ship. As a result, when the boundary temperature between the topping and the bottoming cycles increased, the system efficiencies of energy and exergy were simultaneously maximized because the total exergy destruction rate (${\sum}\dot{E}_d$) and exergy loss ($\dot{E}_{out2}$) decreased, respectively. In the case of a marine diesel engine, the waste heat recovery electric generation system can be utilized for additional propulsion power, and the propulsion efficiency was found to be improved by an average of 9.17 % according to the engine load variation, as compared to the case with only the base engine. In this case, the specific fuel consumption and specific $CO_2$ emission of the diesel engine were reduced by an average of 8.4% and 8.37%, respectively.

Scalable RDFS Reasoning Using the Graph Structure of In-Memory based Parallel Computing (인메모리 기반 병렬 컴퓨팅 그래프 구조를 이용한 대용량 RDFS 추론)

  • In recent years, there has been a growing interest in RDFS Inference to build a rich knowledge base. However, it is difficult to improve the inference performance with large data by using a single machine. Therefore, researchers are investigating the development of a RDFS inference engine for a distributed computing environment. However, the existing inference engines cannot process data in real-time, are difficult to implement, and are vulnerable to repetitive tasks. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a method to construct an in-memory distributed inference engine that uses a parallel graph structure. In general, the ontology based on a triple structure possesses a graph structure. Thus, it is intuitive to design a graph structure-based inference engine. Moreover, the RDFS inference rule can be implemented by utilizing the operator of the graph structure, and we can thus design the inference engine according to the graph structure, and not the structure of the data table. In this study, we evaluate the proposed inference engine by using the LUBM1000 and LUBM3000 data to test the speed of the inference. The results of our experiment indicate that the proposed in-memory distributed inference engine achieved a performance of about 10 times faster than an in-storage inference engine.
