A critical speed analysis of oxidizer pump was peformed for a 7 ton class liquid rocket engine as the third stage engine of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle II. Based on the previously developed experimental 30 ton class turbopump and presently developing 75 ton class turbopump for the first and second stage rocket engine of Korea Space Launch Vehicle II, a layout and configuration of the 7 ton class turbopump rotor assembly are determined. A ball bearing stiffness analysis and rotordynamic analysis are performed for both of the bearing unloaded condition and loaded condition. Structural flexibility of the oxidizer pump casing is also included to predict critical speeds. From the numerical analysis, it is confirmed that the rotor system acquires sufficient separate margin of critical speed as a sub-critical rotor even though decrease of critical speed due to the casing structural flexibility.
If an internal combustion engine is operated by consolidated control, the minimum fuel consumption is achieved satisfying the demanded objectives. For this, it is necessary that the engine is operated on the ideal operating line which satisfies minimum fuel consumption. In this context of view, there are many tries to achieve given object. However, the parameter in the internal combustion engines are variable and depend on the operating points. Therefore, it is necessary to cope with the uncertainties such that the optimal operating may be possible. From this point of view, this paper gives a controller design method and a robust stability condition for engine torque control which satisfies the given control performance and robust stability in the presence of physical parameter perturbation. Exactly, the present paper considers a robust stability of this 2DOF servosystem with nonlinear type uncertainty in the engine system, and a robust stability condition for the servosystem is introduced. This result guarantees that if the plant uncertainty is in the permissible set defined by the given condition then a gain tuning can be carried out to suppress the influence of the plant uncertainties.

A gasoline injector rig which can measure cumulative injected fuel mass under a vehicle driving condition was developed. The measurement system consists of an engine control unit (ECU), data acquisition (DAQ) and injected fuel collection system using loadcells. By supplying reconstructed sensor signals which simulate the real vehicle's sensor signals to the ECU, the ECU drives injectors as if they were driven in the vehicle. The vehicle's performance was computer simulated by using $GT-Suite^{(R)}$ software based on both engine part load performance and automatic transmission shift map. Throttle valve position, engine and vehicle speed, air mass flow rate et al. were computer simulated. The used vehicle driving pattern for the simulation was FTP-75 mode. For reconstructing the real vehicle sensor signals which are correspondent to the $GT-Suite^{(R)}$ simulated vehicle's performance, the DAQ systems were used. The injected fuel was collected with mess cylinders. The collected fuel mass in the mess cylinder with elapsed time after starting FTP-75 driving mode was measured using loadcells. The developed method shows highly improved performance in fast timing and accuracy of the cumulative injected fuel mass measurement under the vehicle driven condition.

A program based on a 2-D CFD code has been developed to simulate a gas turbine engine. 2-D Navier-Stokes implicit code with $k-\omega$ turbulent model is used in compressor and turbine. Lumped method chemical equilibrium code with 10 species of molecular is applied to combustor with assuming perfect mixture and 100% combustion efficiency at constant pressure state. Fluid properties are shared on interfaces between engine components. Compressor supplies outlet temperature and pressure to combustor. At the same time, combustor also carries temperature and pressure to turbine. The back pressure of compressor outlet is transferred by inlet pressure of turbine. Unsteady phenomena in rotor-stator are covered by mixing-plane method. The running condition of engine can be determined only by given the inlet condition of compressor, the outlet condition of turbine, equivalence ratio and rotating speed.

Recently gasoline direct injection method has been applied to gasoline engine to reduce fuel consumption rate by controlling fuel air mixture on lean condition by means of stratified charging, and to reduce simultaneously. Pollutant emissions especially NOx and CO by lowering the combustion temperature. But difficulty of controling local fuel air ratio at ignition area in flammability limit unavoidably appeared, because it is merely controlled by injection timing with spatial and temporal distribution of fuel mixture. In this study, the authors devised a uniquely shaped combustion chamber so called three-chamber GDI engine, intended to keep the more reliable fuel air ratio at ignition area. The combustion chamber is divided into three regions. The first region is in the rich combustion division, where the fuel is injected from the fuel injection valve and ignited by the spark plug. The second region is in the lean combustion division, where the combustion gas from the rich combustion division flows out and burns on lean condition. And the last region is in the main combustion division ie in the cylinder, where the gas from the above two combustion divisions mixed together and completes the combustion during expansion stroke. They found that the stable range of operation of three-chamber GDI engine on low-load condition exists in the lean area of average equivalence ratio. And they also found that the reformed engine reveals less specific fuel consumption and less pollutant emissions compared with conventional carburettor type gasoline engine.

The solution of maintenance decision support system for the gas turbine engine, which is currently operating in GUNSAN combined cycle power plant, was developed and is consist of online monitoring module, periodic performance trending module, optimal compressor washing interval analysis module and hot component management module. Also, GUI platform was applied to this solution for the user to monitoring the analyzed result of engine performance condition and then to make a decision of the consequent maintenance action. In online condition monitoring module, the performance degradation of engine is provided by the analysis of difference between the real time measurement data compared to exist engine performance. The optimal compressor washing interval module produced the washing interval of maximum net profit value by researching the maintenance expense and the loss profit value corresponds to the performance degradation with economic assessment algorithm. Thus, this solution support the user to enable the optimal maintenance and operation of gas turbine engine with overall analysis of engine condition and main information.

In this study, general engine oil and the Miracle top engine oil of Dongjin chemistry company were tested to find the effects to the SI engine performance. Roller dynamometer used to find maximum power, fuel consumption rate and the emission. Maximum power was measured higher when the Miracle top engine oil was used in the vehicle. By use of the Miracle top engine oil, fuel consumption rate and emission was measured lower and compression pressure was higher compared use of general engine oil. Also the Miracle top engine oil was found to decrease the engine noise at the low RPM. And after 1,500km drive at the same condition, the dust in the oil pan and oil filter was measured less when the Miracle top engine oil used compared than general engine oil used.

The purpose of this study is to consider the performance and exhaust characteristics in the practical engine according to the cooling water temperature change of engine and to set up the optimum cooling condition and to obtain the optimum operating condition of thermostat in the cooling system. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, authors have used the following procedure. 1. This study is to investigate the influence of the cooling water temperature on the engine performance and the exhaust gas, authors regulated the cooling water temperature by using the special closing circuit and measured the concentration of exhaust gas by using the exhaust gas measuring system in the exhaust pipe. 2. This study carried out the experiment by regulating the opening degree of throttle valve and engine speed in the dynamometer and by changing the cooling water temperature, at the same time kept air-fuel ratio constant and made the spark ignition time MBT(Minimum spark advance for Best Torque) 3. This study measured the cooling water temperature by using the K-type thermocouple centring around the easy over-heated parts and by installing a special closing circuit. Therefore, in this study, authors intend to examine the influence of the cooling water temperature on the engine performance, exhaust gas and present the basic materials needed in the engine design including the optimum operating time control system for the cooling water temperature.
