  • This study describes the response performances of actual engine speed, turbocharger speed, air mass flow rate through engine, boost pressure ratio, exhaust temperature and combustion efficiency for a six-cylinder four-stroke turbocharged diesel engine during the change in operating conditions by using the computer simulation with test bed. In order to obtain the transient conditions, a suddenly large load was applied to the simulation engine with the several kinds of inertia moment in turbocharger and engine, and engine set speed. From the results of this study, the following conclusions were summarized The inferior response performances was mainly caused by turbocharger lag, and air mass flow rate and boost pressure ratio were closely related to the turbocharger speed. A reduced moment of turbocharger inertia resulted in less transient speed drop and much faster recovery to the steady state of the engine. The increase of moment of engine inertia reduced cyclic variation of engine speed. When a large load was applied to the engine at high speed, the engine could be fastly recovered. However, when the same load was applied to the engine at low speed, the engine was stalled.

  • Recently the direct injection diesel engine is the most efficient one available for road vehicles, so this fundamental advantage suggests the compression injection diesel engine are a wise choice for future development efforts. The compression ignition diesel engine, with its bigger compression ratios if compared to the SI engine, offers a higher thermodynamic efficiency, also additionally the diesel engine with its less pumping losses due to the throttled intake charge as in a SI engine has higher fuel economy. But the largest obstacle to the success of this engine is meeting emission standards for Nitric oxides and particulate matter while maintain fuel consumption advantage over currently available engines. Thus its use should be largely promoted, however, diesel engine emits more Nitric oxides and particulate matter than other competing one. There has been a trade-off between PM and NOx, so efforts to reduce NOx have increased PM and vice versa, but trap change this situation and better possibility emerge for treating NOx emission with engine related means, such as injection timing, equivalence ratio, charge composition, and engine speed. The common rail direct injection system is able to adjust the fuel injection timing in a compression ignition engine, so this electronically controlled injection system can reduce the formation of NOx gas without increase in soot. In this study it is designed and used the engine test bed which is installed with turbocharge and intercooler. In addition to equipped using CRDI by controlling injection timing with mapping modulator, it has been tested and analyzed the engine performance, combustion characteristics, and exhaust emission as operating parameters.

  • The purpose of this study was made for the pre-teacher of university to enhance understanding for the concept of engine performance and to provide information regarding engine performance in the institute of teacher educator. This study was carried out through engine performance experiment with The Cussons Engine Test Bed P8250, internal combustion engine, in order to analyze data quantitatively, and apply and verify factors of controlling engine performance. The main results of this study are as follows: First, power and brake horsepower increased linearly, and torque over the mid-speed as engine rps(revolution per second) decreased. Second, the change of torque and specific fuel consumption were able to be verified and the concept of engine performance was able to be understood. Third, the experimental values of brake horsepower and torque on engine performance showed the same tendency as theoretical values. Fourth, air/fuel ratio increased proportionally as engine speed increased.

  • In this study, it is designed and used the test engine bed which is installed with turbocharger, and in addition to equipped using by oxygen adder. It has been controlled the oxygen volumetric fraction of intake air chrge, and supercharged flow rate into the cylinder of SI 4-stroke engine, and then, has been analyzed engine performance, combustion characteristics, and exhaust emission as analysis parameters. The tested parameters were the oxygen fraction and the variation of engine speed and air-fuel ratio.

  • Recently it has been focused that the automobile engine has developed in a strong upward tendency for the use of the high viscosity and poorer quality fuels in achieving the high performance, fuel economy, and emission reduction. Therefore it is not easy to solve the problems between low specific fuel consumption and exhaust emission control at motor cars. In this study, it is designed and used the engine test bed which is installed with turbocharger and intercooler. In addition to equipped using CRDI by controlling injection timing with mapping modulator, it has been tested and analyzed the engine performance, combustion characteristics, and exhaust emission as operating parameters, and they were engine speeds(rpm), injection timing(bTDC), and engine load(%). From the result of an experimental analysis, peak cylinder pressure and the rate of pressure rise were increased, and the location of it was closer toward top dead center according to the increasing of engine speed and load, and with advancing injection timing. The combustion characteristics are effected by fuel injection timing due to be enhanced the mass burned fraction. Using the engine dynamometer for analyzing the engine performance, the engine torque and power have been enhanced according to advancing the fuel injection timing. In analyzing of exhaust emission, there has been a trade-off between PM and NOx with increasing of engine speed and load, and with advanced injection timing. The experimental data are shown that the formation of NOx has increased and PM, vice versa.

  • The dynamic stress of the diesel engine block is analyzed by using flexible-body dynamic analysis. Multiple loadings including the pressure load due to gas combustion, thermal load, and dynamic load are considered. Thermal load is assumed constant, however, pressure load and dynamic load are treated as time dependent. The present work is focused on the dynamic stress analysis, especially on finding critical points of the engine block. The analysis model includes four parts - engine block, generator, bed, and mounts. On the other hand, crank shaft, pistons, and main bearings are excluded from the model. However, their dynamic effects are applied by dynamic forces, obtained in the separate analysis. Dynamic stress is found by using flexible body dynamic analysis, and compared to the measured data.

  • The characteristics of fluidization in a centrifugal fluidized bed with a 184 mm inner diameter, 50 mm width of the gas distributor was observed by photographs and experimental works using Cu-ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts with a mean diameter of $26{\mu}m$ and $32{\mu}m$ as bed materials at a rotor at 400rpm and 600rpm. Under these experimental ranges, the experimental results clearly showed the effects of the number of rotation of the rotor on the behavior of bubbles in the centrifugal fluidized bed. As the number of rotations of the rotor increased, the gas velocity at which bubbles begin to be formed also increased but the diameter of the bubbles decreased. In addition, the size of the bubbles in the centrifugal fluidized bed were relatively smaller than those in the conventional bubbling fluidized bed.

  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of a TV-Anytime compliant STB to provide personalized content consumption according to user preferences and various terminal/network conditions. This paper mainly details with a metadata engine which consists of meta data de-multiplexing, metadata decoding, and metadata-based content browsing. For personalized content consumption, the proposed metadata engine provides the following key functionalities: advanced EPG, non-linear segment navigation wirh Tables-of-Content and/or event-based summary, automatic recommendation of user-preferred programs, and etc. The implemented STB employing the metadata engine is successfully tested with a set of service scenarios in an end-to-end broadcasting test-bed.
