Running Safety Analysis of Railway Vehicle Depending on Railway Inclination Change Under Actual Track Conditions (실제 선로조건에서의 레일 경좌 변화에 따른 철도차량의 주행안전성 해석)

  • Railways are currently subject to the enforcement of speed limits for each curve as prescribed by the Railway Operating Rules in Korea. However, research is required to determine the maximum speed of trains passing through each curve that allows them to run without the risk of derailment in relation to the speed enhancement of existing railway tracks. In addition, factors affecting the running safety of railway vehicles can be classified into those in terms of vehicle aspects and those in terms of track aspects. This study sought to analyze the running safety of railway vehicles according to changes in the inclination of the rail from among the factors affecting the enhancement of safety against derailment. To increase the speed of trains passing through curves that have high derailment risk, this study also analyzed the running safety of railway vehicles according to the inclination of the rail and changes in running speed while a vehicle passes through each curve section in both the up and the down train line sections between Namsunghyun and Chungdo, which represent the actual conditions of railway tracks.

  • Due to economic development and increasing gross national income, the number of automobiles continues to rise, leading to a serious issue of illegal parking due to limited road conditions and insufficient parking facilities. Illegal parking causes significant inconvenience and displeasure to people and can even result in accidents and loss of lives. The severity of accidents and their consequences, related to the growing number of vehicles and illegal parking, is escalating, particularly in the metropolitan areas. Consequently, efforts are being made to address this problem as a cause of social issues and come up with measures to reduce illegal parking. In particular, half of the public complaints in the metropolitan area are related to illegal parking, and the highest physical and human damage occurs in Gyeonggi. Thus, this study aims to use machine learning techniques based on data related to illegal parking in Suwon city, Gyeonggi, to categorize regional characteristics and propose effective measures to crack down on illegal parking. Additionally, practical, social, policy, and legal measures to decrease illegal parking in the metropolitan area are suggested. This study has academic significance in that it solved the problem of illegal parking, which is mentioned as one of the social problems that cause traffic congestion, by classifying regional characteristics using K-prototype, a machine learning algorithm. Furthermore, the results of this study contribute to practical and social aspects by providing measures to decrease illegal parking in the metropolitan area.

Estimation of Parking Lot Planning and, Suggestion of Parking Planning Methods Considering Vehicle Types (차종을 고려한 주차 계획단위 산정 및 주차계획 방법 제시)

  • At the present, planning and installation of parking space sections and lane width are implemented in accordance with the installation standard and parking lot structure by the enforcement regulations of the Parking Act. While large and RV (Recreational Vehicle) vehicles have increased in number recently, parking is complex with improper installation standards. It causes serious problems, including vehicle vandalism, increased civil complaints, travel inconveniences for parking lot users, management and maintenance issues for parking lots, and so forth. The study, therefore, determined that the practical and appropriate realignment of parking unit adjustment and lane width regulations are essential. The study conducted prior review on domestic parking sections and change cases of composition by vehicle types, including the component ratio of domestic and foreign vehicles, width of vehicle by types in order to examine the parking problems that account for a increasing social issues, and provided parking plan methods by types of vehicle, as well as reform and reaction plans for parking unit adjustment and lane width considering security and smooth traffic flow. After comparing and analyzing between estimated installation of parking space and lane width and internal and external cases, the study suggests the improvement that considers expenses and convenience of a driver. Also, it shows installation of parking space that considers traffic safety, improvement of lane width, and parking way depends on vehicle types. By providing estimation for parking planning and parking planning methods that secure safe and smooth traffic flow within a parking lot, the study will contribute to the development of improved alternatives for cost-effective traffic safety and set-up structure, including installation standards of parking lots.

A Study on the Effectiveness of the Hazardous Chemical Transport Vehicle Management System (유해화학물질 운반차량 관리제도 실효성 연구)

  • Purpose: The effectiveness of the transport vehicle management system of the Chemical Substances Control Act will be studies and used as basic data for future system improvement plans. Method: After the enforcement of the Chemical Substances Control Act, the effectiveness for the transport vehicle management system was studies by comparing the transport plan, guidance and inspection status, safety training completion management, ect., and the reduction rate of chemical accidents. Results: The average number of chemical accidents in transport vehicles nationwide is 20 each year. And It is decreasing with the stabilization of the Chemical Substances Control Act('15.1.1). The first reason for the decrease in chemical accidents is the increase in submission of transport plans. Second, as the guidance and inspection rate increased every year, the shipper company's management of transport companies was naturally strengthened. Finally, it is judged that chemical accident caused by transport vehicles decrease through safety education. Conclusion: The current tranport vehicle management system of the Chemical Substances Control Act is effective. However, further research is needed to improve the practical and efficient transport vehicle management system.

  • The Road Management Administration is cracking down on overloaded vehicles by installing low-speed or high-speed WIMs at toll gates and main lines on expressways. However, in recent years, the act of intelligently evading the overloaded-vehicle control system of the Road Management Administration by illegally manipulating the variable axle of an overloaded truck is increasing. In this manipulation, when entering the overloaded-vehicle checkpoint, all axles of the vehicle are lowered to pass normally, and when driving on the main road, the variable axle of the vehicle is illegally lifted with the axle load exceeding 10 tons alarmingly. Therefore, this study developed a technology to detect the state of the variable axle of a truck driving on the road using roadside camera images. In particular, this technology formed the basis for cracking down on overloaded vehicles by lifting the variable axle after entering the checkpoint and linking the vehicle with the account information of the checkpoint. Fundamentally, in this study, the tires of the vehicle were recognized using the Mask RCNN algorithm, the recognized tires were virtually arranged before and after the checkpoint, and the height difference of the vehicle was measured from the arrangement to determine whether the variable axle was lifted after the vehicle left the checkpoint.

A study on low carbon car subsidy for automotive industry development (자동차 산업 발전을 위한 저탄소차 협력금제도에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, it investigates the highly controversial issue "low carbon car subsidy". Through the policy's intent, purpose, and necessity, it aims to present alternatives for automotive industry development. Introducing the low carbon car subsidy will bring a huge change to the vehicle purchase practices by changing vehicle purchase cost. It expects that this change will reduce greenhouse gas emission from vehicles. For successful settlement of the system, it shall set up the target sections for subsidy and levy appropriately in order to get the nation's consensus. Additionally, it has to conduct sufficient reviews the measures such as adjustment to the existing auto tax, divided payments of burden charge, etc before enforcing the system. In terms of the automobile industry, it must do their level best in technical development in order to meet the carbon dioxide emission level of imported cars until the enforcement. Also, the government has to strengthen its support to the industry.

The Characteristics of Vehicle Speed Violation in School Zones (어린이 보호구역에서의 차량 속도위반 특성 분석)

  • Since speed limit enforcement in school zones is the most important to reduce the occurrence of severe child related accidents, school zones typically have a speed limit of 30km/h. However, it is found that the majority of vehicles passing school zones are traveling over 30km/h. This indicates that school zones are not being effectively operated to achieve the main objective which is the reduction of child related accidents. This study aims to identify the factors affecting the violation of speed limits in school zones through the results of field survey from 8 elementary schools. The results showed that time period, the number of lanes, the width of sidewalks, and the status of colored pavement were found to be highly associated with the violation of speed limits in school zones at the 95% significance level. The results of this study may provide some insights for making safe environments around schools.

  • Since year 2016, in Korea, the police department started to use drones to patrol violated vehicles on the highway area. They monitor vehicle drivers who use side ways on the highway during traffic congested hours of the season, drunken drivers, or violent drivers. They use the 'Spot Mobility' method which floats the drones for 30 minute period. However, this method is inefficient since it requires manually charging batteries, gathering data, and operate drones with many numbers of policeman. Therefore, in this paper, for the efficient patrol in this purpose, I have suggested an effectively manageable network system consists of many drones as the wireless network nodes and with small numbers of policeman in a wide highway area. To accomplish this, the two topologies of effective drone patrol network systems are designed and simulated in OPNET simulator for performance evaluation.

  • In this paper, we proposed A Study on Construction of Infrastructure for Handicapped Parking Areas Using RFID. This paper is Construction of the Handicapped Parking Areas infrastructure Using RFID with 900MHz band, and researched the optimal position of the tag attached on the vehicle and the location of RFID reader in order to raise the efficiency of RFID reader and the recognition rate by the handicapped vehicle. The result of research is shown the optimal position of RFID reader establishment when the height of RFID reader is 170cm in height and the angle of $80^{\circ}$ with the ground when the vehicle traveling direction of the antenna and the RFID reader when the surface and the angle of $90^{\circ}$ showed the best position RFID readers installed. Parking spaces for the disabled in accordance with these results the RFID readers installed and it works in conjunction with enforcement camera car tagged crackdown on vehicles and other general management, the system is built to allow handicapped parking spaces that meet the intent of the original purpose being used as expected to contribute significantly.

Real-time Integrity for Vehicle Black Box System (차량용 블랙박스 시스템을 위한 실시간 무결성 보장기법)

  • Recently, a great attention has been paid to a vehicle black box device in the auto markets since it provides an accident re-construction based on the data which contains audio, video, and some meaningful driving informations. It is expected that the device will get to promote around commercial vehicles and the market will greatly grow within a few years. Drivers who equips the device in their car believes that it can find the origin of an accident and help an objective judge. Unfortunately, the current one does not provide the integrity of the data stored in the device. That is the data can be forged or modified by outsider or insider adversary because it is just designed to keep the latest data produced by itself. This fact cause a great concern in car insurance and law enforcement, since the unprotected data cannot be trusted. To resolve the problem, in this paper, we propose a novel real-time integrity protection scheme for vehicle black box device. We also present the evaluation results by simulation using our software implementation.
