  • Because of their low operating and maintaining costs, ground-source heat pump(GSHP) systems are an increasingly popular choice for providing heating, cooling and water heating to public and commercial buildings. Despite these advantages and the growing awareness, GSHP systems to residential sectors have not been adopted in Korea until recently. A feasibility study of a residential GSHP system was therefore conducted using the traditional life cycle cost(LCC) analysis within the current electricity price framework and potential scenarios of that framework. As a result, when the current residential electricity costs for running the GSHP system are applied, the GSHP system has weak competitiveness to conventional HV AC systems considered. However, when the operating costs are calculated in the modified price frameworks of electricity, the residential GSHP system has the lower LCC than the existing cooling and heating equipments. The calculation results also show that the residential GSHP system has lower annual prime energy consumption and total pollutant emissions than the alternative HVAC systems considered in this work.

  • Recently, There is Increasing interest in the intelligent services using the Internet of Things indoor positioning technologies that enable the communication of information between the objects. In particular Applications and demand for the indoor location based services using smart devices has made active. An indoor location positioning technology for this purpose BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) has been a lot of interest in technology increases. If iBeacon of BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) is made available to provide a signal for the indoor location information measurement then reliability of Indoor location information is lowered by signal interference. In this paper, Proposes a technique for data acquisition method for obtaining reliable position information and reliable position information calculation method from signal information data of iBeacon.

  • The rapidly growing global population increases the awareness of water, energy, and food security worldwide. The concept of Water, Energy, and Food nexus (hereafter, WEF nexus) has been widely introduced as a new resources management concept that integrate the water, energy, and food in a single management framework. Recently, WEF nexus analyzes not only the interconnections among the resources, but also considers the external factors (such as environment, climate change, policy, finance, etc) to enhance the resources sustainability by proper understanding of their relations. A nation-level resources management is quite complex task since multiple regions (e.g., watersheds, cities, and counties) with different characteristics are spatially interconnected and transfer the resources each other. This study proposes a multiple region WEF nexus simulation and transfer model. The model is equipped with three simulation modules, such as local nexus simulation module, regional resources transfer module, and optimal investment planning module. The model intends to determine an optimal capital investment plan (CIP), such as build-up of power plants, water/waste water treatment plants, farmland development and to determine W-E-F import/export decisions among areas. The objective is to maximize overall resources sustainability while minimize financial cost. For demonstration, the proposed model is applied to a semi-hypothetical study area with three different characterized cities. It is expected the model can be used as a decision support tool for a long-term resources management planning process.

  • The death scenes are the culmination of both Doris Lessing's "To Room Nineteen" and Toni Morrison's Sula. Lessing's Susan, an intelligent white English woman, gradually loses the meaning of life as awealthy housewife in the patriarchal society and commits suicide as her solution in Room Nineteen of Fred's Hotel. Morrison's Sula, an African-American woman, grows up without having the normal ego under Eva's matriarchy in a black community named the Bottom. Sula, after Nel's marriage, becomes a symbol of evil to her community and drifts down to death in Eva's bed. Reading these two death stories from the perspective of Jung's archetypal psychology, Susan is not able to continue to live a meaningful life because her life energy is cut off from its source which is in the unconscious. According to Jung, the symbol is the medium of the psychic energy from the unconscious to consciousness. In modern society which is represented by intelligence, the religious and mythical symbols are removed by rationalism, which means disconnection of the flow of life energy from the unconscious. Susan's death can be read as a kind of creating symbol to connect the modern people to the source of life energy. Sula's case is the opposite of Susan's. She remains in the unconscious world without having the proper ego in the absurd reality of racial and sexual problems. Sula finally rises again in Nel's awareness, becoming a symbol of the feminine goddess like goddess Inanna.

  • In these day, the environmental issues of climate change have been continuously highlighted and there is an active discussion on the transition from fossil fuel-based energy to eco-friendly energy use. This study considered psychological attitudes as a major influencing factors for successful implementation of a hydrogen society totally based on the use of hydrogen energy, which is regarded as an alternative energy for future. Accordingly, familiarity, risk perception, and acceptability of psychological factors were investigated. In addition, this study identified whether there are differences in psychological factors according to the general characteristics of gender, age, occupation, and housing type. The results showed that awareness of hydrogen cars and fuels is below the average level, and we also have obtained the implication that social knowledge sharing should precede the implementation of hydrogen policy. Although we found that the degree of urban acceptance of hydrogen energy was high, it was also confirmed that the charging infrastructure was generally perceived as having a high risk. Our findings implicate that it is necessary to figure out policy strategies for suitable locating charging infrastructure in order to promote the use of hydrogen energy more.

  • With low carbon and green growth as the policy indicator, Korea has been concentrating on a variety of researches and technical development as well as recommending the LED lighting facility as part of Green Energy policy to cope with the environment and energy crisis. While the interest on LED has been increasing, the development of LED is still in its early stage and researches on diverse aspects of LED are not sufficiently implemented. Thus, this paper aimed to get the data that would help the expansion of LED lighting by comparing and analyzing the awareness and knowledge level of the public and experts on LED lighting.

  • This research is based on the concept that environmentally sustainable school design itself can raise the awareness of environmental issues related with sustainability for the students in early school days. Firstly, 7th educational curriculum is analyzed in terms of environmental education and the possibility for the spatial translation is reviewed. Secondly, potential items appropriate for physical facilities are extracted. Lastly design guidelines, which covers four different categories such as school yard, energy, water and waste are provided not only for the environmental education but also for the energy efficiency and resource conservation of the facility itself.

  • The reduction of power consumption in large-scale datacenters is highly-dependent on the use of virtualization to consolidate multiple workloads. However, these consolidation strategies must also take into account additional important parameters such as performance, reliability, and profitability. Resolving these conflicting goals is often the major challenge encountered in the design of optimization strategies for cloud data centers. In this paper, we put forward a data center monitoring strategy which dynamically alters its approach depending on the cloud system's current state. Results show that our proposed scheme outperformed strategies which only focus on a single metric such as SLA-Awareness and Energy Efficiency.

  • Recently, due to high rise building by rapid urbanization, the spaces incapable of being penetrated by sunlight into interior is increasing. So, sunlighting systems are important means to be able to get sunlight into indoors and to make sure of sunshine awareness. This study aims to evaluate lighting performance of sunlighting mirror systems. As results. these are very useful for the increase of an average illuminance of indoors and the penetration of sunlight. Especially, the second reflecting mirrors can be applied to spaces lack of sunlight. And these sunlighting systems developed in the present study is validated physical and psychological performance to both building and people.

  • As in dynamic muscular activity, to support one's body may be regarded as the static workload. An examination is made of the relationship between heart rate and oxygen uptake of three male graduate students in static working postures (sitting, squatting and standing). Though it has been believed that there exists a linear relationship between heart rate and oxygen uptake, this thesis shows that both have no relationship in the case of static postures, and that they may depend upon the characteristics of postures rather than the static workload. These results are discussed analytically. The additivity between static body postures and holding up one's hands at his maximum height is tested. Compared with the sum of energy expenditure in balancing one's body and holding up hands, the net rate of energy expenditure in performing them simultaneously is equivalent. In the case of static postures, the importance of the awareness of the characteristics and relevance of the measures is discussed.
