  • In order to supply stable natural gas in the future, it is necessary to forecast the demand in advance and secure the quantity of supply. In this paper, we propose a method of estimating the demand function of industrial natural gas, which is the core of the increase of domestic natural gas demand in the future. The cross-sectional data of 304 domestic industries were used to estimate the demand function of the industrial natural gas, and the effect of industry specific characteristics such as capital investment, manufacturing cost. Finally, the least absolute deviation estimation method which is robust to outliers and does not assume the homogeneity of the error term and the normality, And the results were derived. In addition, the economic value of industrial city gas was estimated using the price elasticity of industrial city gas. Therefore, it can be seen that the continuous expansion and supply of city gas to the industrial sector is beneficial at the national level, and the government needs to promote expansion through the industrial city gas support policy.

  • In terms of operation profiles and building characteristics, Schools, as public facilities, are one of the most suitable buildings for small scale Renewable energy systems since they have its energy demand on daytime mostly and large open area, roof surface available for the installation of Renewable energy systems such as solar collectors or Photovoltaic pannels. This paper presents a methodology of the feasibility test for Renewable energy systems to be intalled at schools. The methodology is based on the analysis of the demand/supply profiles dynamic matching. a case study is also presented to test the applicability of the proposed assessment methodology.

  • To respond effectively to climate change following the launch of the new climate system, the government is seeking to expand the use of distributed power resources. Among them, the district heating system centered on Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is accepted as the most realistic alternative. On the other hand, the government recently announced the change of energy paradigm focusing on eco-friendly power generation from the base power generation through $8^{th}$ Basic Plan for Long-term Electricity Supply and Demand(BPE). In this study, we analyzed the quantitative effects of profit and loss on the CHP operating business by changing patterns of the heat production, caused by the change of energy paradigm. To do this, the power market long-term simulation was carried out according to the $7^{th}$ and $8^{th}$ BPE respectively, using the commercialized power market integrated analysis program. In addition, the CHP operating model is organized to calculate the power and heat production level for each CHP operation mode by utilizing the operating performance of 830MW class CHP in Seoul metropolitan area. Based on this, the operation optimization is performed for realizing the maximum operating profit and loss during the life-cycle of CHP through the commercialized integrated energy optimization program. As a result, it can be seen that the change of the energy paradigm of the government increased the level of the ordered power supply by Korean Power Exchange(KPX), decreased the cost of the heat production, and increased the operating contribution margin by 90.9 billion won for the 30 years.

  • The purpose of this study is to recognize the importance of sustaining the coal industry in spite of the declaration of new climate change regime. Due to the importance to have the ability to control the supply and demand for energy source, this study will present the ground supporting the need to save some fixed amount of coal to carry out this task. The relative quantity of fossil fuel like coal and oil consumed as an energy source is reduced due to the increasing portion of renewable energy sources. Nevertheless, we can verify the fact that the position as a main energy source in demand for and supply of electric power is still valid. And the optimal amount of coal storage is estimated through the average annual amount of demand derived from preceding studies. In this context, it is very urgent problem to maintain the coal industry as a industrial policy for the sustainable national economic growth through the coal storage policy and to determine the optimal amount of annual storage.

  • This study presents a demand modelling for landfill gas, which is used as alternative energy source for district cooling business. By analyzing the cost minimizing behavior of producer facing with three alternative energy sources such as electricity, cooling heat water, and gas, a demand function for landfill gas is derived from the optimal operating time of gas fired production facility, and estimated using unpublished data, which are associated with Seoul city's development plan for Sang-am area. The estimation results repeals that Seoul City could supply the land-fill gas of 13.76 million cubic meters each year at the price of about 16 won per cubic meters. However, if the investment costs associated with installation of gas collecting facilities are treated as sunk costs, annual amount of gas supplied is expected to increase to 14.22 million cubic meters at a lower unit price of 14.76 won.

  • Due to abnormal high temperature, electric power demand has exceeded the backup power reserved for emergency case, hence, resulting in a major power outage. In today's overcrowded cities, the unexpected disruption in energy supply and demand is a major threat to the enormous economic damage and urban malfunctions. Existing methods for estimating the demand of the emergency power source do not lend themselves to predict the actual demand in the spatial dimension of the city. In addition, the reserve power is arbitrarily distributed in the case of emergency. This paper presents a method that predicts the emergency power demand using the spatial distribution of emergency power demand by applying the daily energy consumption intensity and emergency power demand according to urban spatial information and building use.

  • Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus is a new holistic resources management concept that considers the interconnections among resources for sustainable resources planning and management. The current challenge is to fulfill the required demand in the lack of available resources. A traditional way to provide more available resource is by increase in production, but it caused increment of indirect demand of other interlinked resources. Importing resources from other area (where local supply is redundant) is another option to secure local resources with additional economic expenditure. The WEF nexus-trading model adapts the previously developed nationwide nexus simulation model with additional input parameters and functions to simulate trading scenarios. In general, the analysis starts with the quantification of local resources deficit (potential importing amount) and redundancy (potential exporting amount) of each area. Then, a trade module is initiated by determining possible donor area and importation amount. Finally, the nexus simulation for all area is re-run to determine final resources supply-demand results including the trading amount. The trade option provides an opportunity to meet local demands without draining local resources. However, the production capability of donor area may limit the importation amount. The newly developed trade option allows more alternatives for stakeholders to determine resources management plans.

  • The electricity demand in Korea has rapidly increased along with a steady economic growth since 1970s. Therefore Korea has positively propelled not only SSM(Supply-Side Management) but also DSM(Demand-Side Management) activities to reduce investment cost of generating units and to save supply costs of electricity through the enhancement of whole national energy utilization efficiency. However study for rebate, which have influence on success or failure on DSM program, is not sufficient. This paper executed to modeling mathematically an amount of potential participants considering rebates, which have influence on penetration amounts for DSM program using by 'A Survey of End-User for Energy Efficiency Demand Side Management Programs'.

  • In this paper, some ideas are proposed to establish the infrastructure of all-electric houses which are able to reduce primary energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission by adopting heat pump systems and induction heating cookers excluding the use of fossil fuel energy. This electrification concept is based on the consumption of only one type of energy which means electricity as secondary energy and the conventional fossil fuel energy is just consumed to generate electricity as primary energy. All-electric house is laid on the extension of the hydrogen economy in a long-term viewpoint so that the effectiveness of this new conceptual house is estimated analyzing the reduction of $CO_2$ emission. In this analysis, the balance of electricity supply and demand is considered including the construction of new power plants by renewable energy such as nuclear, IGCC and fuel cell because decarbonization is an essential element of hydrogen technology and economy and this action is accomplished in both supply and demand side of electricity. The results are able to contribute to develop various useful hydrogen policies and strategies and some detail researches are required previously to make the best application of this new conceptual house.
