Body weight is maintained at a relatively constant level over days and months despite variability in food intake and physical activity. To achieve energy homeostasis, the hypothalamus receives information related to energy surplus or shortage from the periphery and controls food intake and energy expenditure. Leptin, an adipocyte derived hormone, is a principal mediator that signals the brain about the stored energy status. Increased leptin signaling in the brain prevents excess energy stores by suppressing food intake and increasing energy expenditure. In addition, insulin and nutrients themselves, such as glucose and free fatty acids, also regulate food intake.
The purpose of this study was to compare the consciousness of health status and nutrient intake of farmers in Korea. Eight hundred were surveyed by rural leaders of Rural Development Administration(RDA), composed of 35.1 % male and 64.9% female. Data collection included personal & family situation by Interview method for influencial factors of health status. Food intake was determined by semiquantitative food frequency method with 65 kinds of foods. 32.5% of the subjects were elementary school graduates, younger age groups and males had higher levels of education. Mean family numbers was 4.2 persons. In the concept of disease prevalence, gender difference existed. Liver and heart ailments were frequent in males and waist pain and urinary complaints in females, and schoulder pain and nervesness were frequently prevalent to all farmers. The energy intake of farmers was 2000Kca1/day, 19:16:65 of PFC(protein, fat, and carbohydrate) ratio was approached at recommended composition of energy. But calcium and iron were lower than Korean Recommended Dietary Allowences(KRDA), Vitamin A, thiamin, niacin, and vitamin C were over of KRDA, but riboflavin, pyridoxin, and vitamin I were lower than KRDA. The nutrient intakes of poor health groups were significantly lower than those of healthy. In fatty acid composition, monounsaturated fatty acids(FA) intake was higher than that of saturated FA. The CMI (Cornell Medical Index) and Farmers' syndrome were significantly correlated with personal factors, such as height, number in family, education level, and working level. But the correlation of health status with nutrient intakes were only weakly significant. Depending on the regression analysis, Farmers' syndrome explanation about nutrient intake was low(R2 was only 0.01 more or less), but some nutrients (energy, niacin, pyridoxine, vitamin E, and lipids) could explain this significantly. It was concluded that body complaints of farmers could ameliorate with good nutrition.
Large wind turbine generators with high temperature superconductors (HTS) are in incessant development because of their advantages such as weight and volume reduction and the increased efficiency compared with conventional technologies. In addition, nowadays the wind turbine market is growing in a function of time, increasing the capacity and energy production of the wind farms installed and increasing the electrical power for the electrical generators installed. As a consequence, it is raising the wind power energy contribution for the global electricity demand. In this study, a forecast of wind energy development will be firstly emphasized, then it continue presenting a recent status of the technology development of large scale HTSG for wind power followed by an explanation of HTS wire trend, cryogenics cooling systems concept, HTS magnets field coil stability and other technological parts for optimization of HTS generator design - operating temperature, design topology, field coil shape and level cost of energy, as well. Finally, the most relevant projects and designs of HTS generators specifically for offshore wind power systems are also mentioned in this study.
The objectives of this study were to determine whether older Americans would provide valid energy intake information using a 24-hr recall method and to determine which characteristics were predictive of under-report of energy intake. We conducted 24-hour recalls on 83 male and 105 female community-dwelling older adults(66-87y) in the USA to assess energy(EI) and nutrient intakes. Basal metabolic rate(BMR) was calculated from age-and gender-specific equations of Schofield. Under-reporting was defined a priori as EI : BMR<0.9. Subjects volunteered demographic information, underwent depression and cognition exams, and completed a Level II Nutrition Risk Screen. Differences between under- and adequate-reporters were assessed using t-tests for characteristics and macro-nutrient profile. Stepwise regression analyses were used to predict under-reporting status. Under-reporting of EI occurred in 34% of the sample. Neither geriatric depression scale(GDS) score, nor self-reported weight loss were related to under-reporting. On average, under-reporters had higher body mass indices. The most significant variables for the main effect to predict the ratio of energy intake to estimated basal metabolic rate(EI : BMRest) were BMI and age. Using a standard cut-off of 76% of the recommended dietary allowances for Americans, under-reporters were consistently more likely to be classified as having inadequate nutrient, as well as energy, intakes. The molten carbonate fuel cell(MCFC) has been under Intensive development for the last decade as a second generation fuel cell. The advantages of the MCFC over the phophoric acid fuel cell are higher efficiency, its ability to accept CO and $H_2$ as a fuel, lower material costs, and high operating temperature making internal reforming possible. These features, along with low atmospheric emissions, will open up a significant market as an attractive means of developing highly efficient power plant. This article reviews a status of the MCFC research and development, a principle of the MCFC, and cell and stack technology including the status of electrodes, matrices and electrolytes. Several technical difficulties which must be resolved to be commercialized art mainly focused.
Slum settlement, a direct result of the rapid worldwide urbanization is a common site in most developing countries. Uganda is among the top African countries with high number of slums. The status of Katanga slum located in the low-lands between Mulago national hospital and Makerere University is a typical of many other slums within Uganda. This project proposal seeks to tackle urbanization challenges by specializing in slum upgrading as a sustainable way of curbing the menace. An integrated toilet, biogas, poultry and backyard gardening project is proposed as a channel of boosting the Katanga slum dwellers' economic, sanitation and domestic energy status. Designed to serve up to 30 households, the project will utilize residual wastes from poultry houses and toilets to produce biogas and slurry. The biogas yield will provide clean cooking fuel and energy for lighting, while the slurry used as organic fertilizers to improve vegetable yields. The social, economic and environmental impacts of the project will empower the vulnerable women and children within the slums and reduce water pollution and land degradation. This affordable project can be applied in developing countries experiencing slum settlement challenges as a strategy for reducing urbanization pressure.
The paper discusses results of recent international intercomparison exercises on internal dose assessments, status of up to date internal dosimetry methods and the radiological legislation developed and implemented in Korea, European Union and Ukraine. The system of radiation protection in Korea is based on the Korean Atomic Energy Regulatory Enforcement on Safety Standards (Ministry Notice No. 2001-2). The notice is based on the recommendations in ICRP Publication 60 (1990) and IAEA Basic Safety Standards (1996). But the full implementation of the notice by the end of the year 2002 is not required because of the socio-economic situation and inexperience in internal radiation dosimetry Regulatory framework for internal radiation dosimetry is under development toward the full implementation of the notice from January 1, 2003. The system of radiation protection in Ukraine is based on the National radiation protection regulatory code NRBU-97. The code was developed and adopted in 1998 and replaced the Regulations of Former Soviet Union. The document is based on the ICRP Publication 60, Euratom Directive 96/29 and IAEA Basic Safety Standards (1996). The transitional period of 5 years (effected till January 2003) is established for implementation of all requirements of this new regulation. The system of radiation protection in the European Community is based on the Council Directive 96/29/Euratom, adopted in 1996 and enforced from 13 May 2000. Directive 96/29/Euratom has the status of the European law.

Recently, renewable energy has been increasing in Korea to reduce greenhouse gas, and solar power generation, which accounts for the largest proportion of renewable energy, is noteworthy. The government policy will further increase solar power generation. In order to implement the policy, it is important to understand the current status of domestic solar power generation facilities. Therefore, the current status of solar power generation facilities in Jinju city close to the south coast and Jeonju city close to the west coast was investigated and compared. By 2020, 618 solar power plants had been installed in Jeonju city and 269 in Jinju city. However, there is not much difference in the amount of solar power generation for business at 9 GWh. The reason is that Jinju city has a lower population density than Jeonju city, so there are enough places to install a large-scale solar power facilities with a large power generation capacity. Monthly solar power generation was the highest in April in both Jeonju city and Jinju city and the lowest in January. In particular, in December, Jinju city showed more solar power generation than Jeonju city because of the large amount of insolation, long sunshine hours, and few clouds.
