  • In this study, the vessel collision protective structure and the vessel were modeled numerically and the quasi-static collision analysis was performed to evaluate the maximum protection capacity. In the modeling process of protective structure, the nonlinear behaviors of structure and the supporting conditions of ground including pull-out action were considered. In that of collision vessel, the bow of vessel was modeled precisely, because of the nonlinear behaviors were concentrated on it. For the efficient analysis, the mass scaling scheme was applied, also. To evaluate the differences and efficiency, the dynamic analyses were performed for the same model, additionally. Based on the obtained energy dissipation curves of the structure and the vessel, the moment that the collision force affected to the bridge substructures was determined and the maximum allowable collision velocity was evaluated. Because of the energy dissipation bound can be recognized clearly, this scheme can be used efficient in engineering work.

  • The fuel cell technology as a green energy source has been actively studied to solve energy shortages and pollution problems. The generating efficiency of fuel cell is high because the electricity is directly produced by using hydrogen and oxygen and the additional power generator is not needed. The key technology is the manufacturing process of polymer electrolyte membranes for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) system. The Nafion, perfluoro-based polymeric membrane is mainly used as a polymer electrolyte membrane. However, the Nafion is expensive and rapidly decreases the performance of Nafion at high temperature. So, many researchers are lively studying new alternative electrolyte membranes. In this review, through the technology competitiveness evaluation of patents and papers, the frequencies of presentation are filed by country, institution and company. In addition, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell, direct methanol fuel cell and alkaline fuel cell are also filed.

  • In this study, boron - doped carbon was prepared by reducing carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) at high temperature by using sodium borohydride ($NaBH_4$). The boron - doped carbon was coated on carbon felt and applied as an electrode for a vanadium redox battery cell. As a result of electrochemical performance evaluation, reversibility of carbon felt coated with boron doped carbon compared to pure carbon felt was improved by about 20% and charge transfer resistance was reduced by 60%. In the charge / discharge results, energy density and energy efficiency were improved by 21% and 12.4%, respectively. These results show that carbon produced by reduction of $CO_2$ can be used as electrode material for redox flow battery.

  • In the present study, the dispersion characteristics of hydrogen leakage from a Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) were analyzed by numerical simulation in order to assess the risk of a hydrogen leakage incident in a long road tunnel. In order to implement the worst case of hydrogen leakage, the FCV was located at the center of a tunnel, and hydrogen was completely discharged within 63 seconds. The Leakage velocity of hydrogen was adopted sub-sonic speed because that the assumption of the blockage effect of secondary device inside a vehicle. The temporal and spatial evaluation of the hydrogen concentration as well as the flammable region in a road tunnel was reported according to change of ventilation operating conditions. The hydrogen was blended by supply air form a ventilation fan, however, the hydrogen was discharged to outside in the exhaust air. It is observed that the efficiency way to eliminate of hydrogen is supply air operating condition under the hazardous hydrogen leaking incident. The present numerical analysis can be provided useful information of ventilation under the hydrogen leaking situation.

  • To develop high dfficiency-low energy consumption attrition coupled bioreactor for enhanced enzymatic hyerolysis of insoluble biomass, a tumbling drum type bioreactor was installed, and its efficiency was evaluated. The effects of drum structure and poerational conditions were investigated. The optimal saccharification at 3L drum was obtained at 8 baffled drum, drum diameter to baffle height ratio of 1:0.05, 100rpm, and addition of 600g of 3mm glass bead per liter. The consumed power for rolling of drum and energy consumption for half digestion of cellulose were measured, and compared with enhanced rate and yield to predict the economic prospect of the process. The tumbling drum type bioreactor seems to have appropriated structure for industrial scale operation, and further investigation for scale-up need to be conducted.

  • Amendment of multi-binders was employed for the immobilization of metal(loid)s in field-contaminated soils to reduce the leaching potential. The effect of different types of multi-binders (lime/diammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate/ladle slag and lime/ladle slag) on the solidification/stabilization of metal(loid)s (Pb, Zn, Cu and As) from the smelter soil and mine tailing soil were investigated. The amended soils were evaluated by measuring Toxicity Characterization Leaching Procedure (TCLP) leaching concentration of metal(loid)s. The results show that the leaching concentration of metal(loid)s decreased with the immobilization using multi-binders. In terms of TCLP extraction, the mixed binder was effective in the order of lime/ladle slag > diammonium phosphate/ladle slag > lime/diammonium phosphate. When the mixed binder amendment (0.15 g lime+0.15 g ladle slag for 1g smelter soil and 0.05 g lime+0.1 g ladle slag for 1 g mine tailing soil, respectively) was used, the leaching concentration of metal(loid)s decreased by 90%. However, As leaching concentration increased with diammonium phosphate/lime and diammonium phosphate/ladle slag amendment competitive anion exchange between arsenic ion and phosphate ion from diammonium phosphate. The Standard, Measurements and Testing programme (SM&T) analysis indicated that fraction 1 (F1, exchangeable fraction) decreased, while fraction 4 (F4, residual fraction) increased. The increased immobilization efficiency was attributed to the increase in the F4 of the SM&T extraction. From this work, it was possible to suggest that both arsenic and heavy metals can be simultaneously immobilized by the amendment of multi-binder such as lime/ladle slag.

  • Purpose: "Building energy design standard" is used to limit the thermal transmittance of building in Korea. However, it only covers the insulation standard for each appropriate elements of a building, not the thermal performance of Junction thermal bridge of windows and doors installed in wall. Therefore in this study, we have evaluated the thermal performance of Junction thermal bridge depending on installation method and position of windows and provide it as design data. Method: We analyzed heat transfer of 4-Track sliding window and tilt & turn triple glazed window that are placed in the first class category on window energy efficiency rating using Window 7.4 and Therm 7.4. Result : First, linear thermal transmittance of 4-Track sliding window differs by 2.2 times or more depending of installation method and location. It is higher than the linear thermal transmittance, 0.01W/mK, proposed by Passivhaus. Second, linear thermal transmittance of Tilt & turn triple glazed window differs by 7.7 times or more depending of installation method and location. The average linear thermal transmittance was less than 0.01W /mK when windows were installed on the internal wall insulation by the fixed hardware attachment method. Third, the thermal losses of a window caused by a junction thermal bridge are inversely proportional to the window area and converge gradually as the area increased.

  • To develop an attrition coupled enzyme reactor with high efficiency-low energy consumption for saccharification of insoluble biomass, a 5L horizontal paddle type bioreactor was constructed and its performance was evaluated. The optimal condition for saccharification of 50g $\alpha$ -cellulose/L was found to be 200rpm with 500g of 3mm glass bead. Especially, the horizontal paddle type bloreactor was very effective for saccharification of high concentration of insoluble cellulose, in which around 72% of $\alpha$ -cellulose was saccharified for 75g $\alpha$ -cellulose/L, and even up to 70% for 100g of $\alpha$ -cellulose/L after 24hours. Under the optimal condition, the power consumption was measured to be around 1.7watth/g. Horizontal paddle type bioreactor seems to have an appropriated structural feature for industrial scale operation and to be an effective and energy saving attrition coupled enzyme reactor.
