This paper implements a simultaneous solar and thermal energy harvesting system, as a hybrid energy harvesting (HEH) system, to convert ambient light into electrical energy through photovoltaic (PV) cells and heat absorbed in the body of PV cells. Indeed, a solar panel equipped with serially connected thermoelectric generators not only converts the incoming light into electricity but also takes advantage of heat emanating from the light. In a conventional HEH system, the diode block is used to provide the path for the input source with the highest value. In this scheme, at each time, only one source can be handled to generate its output, while other sources are blocked. To handle this challenge of combining resources in HEH systems, this paper proposes a method for collecting all incoming energies and conveying its summation to the load via the current mirror cells in an approach similar to the maximum power point tracking. This technique is implemented using off-the-shelf components. The measurement results show that the proposed method is a realistic approach for supplying electrical energy to wireless sensor nodes and low-power electronics.

Wireless power transmission (WPT) is a technology using free space as a conductor for transmitting electric power, which aims to transfer not just the transmission signal but also the electrical energy itself. This paper takes issue with the microwave wireless transmission technology utilizing in long-distance transmission. To construct the WPT system, several components are needed, such as RF Oscillator which converts AC power to RF through DC status, high gain antenna and RF rectifier that converts RF back to DC. The array topology is good a candidate for wide use. The objective of this research is to study the efect of the WPT systmem on electric power system.

Mostly used sensors have wired powering and two-way cable systems. It is difficult to employ wired sensor network in ubiquitous era because of a number of sensors and cables. Therefore, sensor networks move from wired systems to wireless systems for the future. However, the power source is a critical obstacle for wireless sensornodes. This research represents the new power source which supplies energy sensor node, maintains over 10 years, and thus replaces batteries with limit of lifetime. The system with piezo materials scavenges extra energies such as vibration and acceleration from the environment. Then it converts the scavenged mechanical energy to electrical energy for powering a sensor, a controller and a circuit for regulating voltage and transmitting sensor value. This study explains the properties of piezo material through theoretical analysis and experiments, and demonstrates powering sensor and transmitting data with stored energy (35mJ) for 14 sec. The developed system provides a solution to overcome the critical problem of making up wireless sensor networks.
The common vibration energy harvester effectively converts mechanical vibration to electric power at a specific resonance frequency that must match the ambient excitation frequency. The resonance frequencies of energy harvesters are fixed during the design process and could not be changed after fabrication. In this paper, we proposed the new frequency tuning which uses the rotatable spring in order to adjust the spring constants. By this tuning method, the resonance frequency of the system can simply be manipulated using spring rotation. The proposed energy harvester has been successfully tuned to a resonance frequency between 23 and 32 Hz. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed energy harvester could generate a maximum output power of $60{\mu}W$ with an acceleration of 0.5 g ($1g=9.81m/s^2$), and that the resonance frequency of the harvester was able to tune approximately 31.4%. When the proposed harvester was attached to an automobile engine, the maximum open circuit voltage of 1.78 Vpp was produced at 700 rpm.
Wind turbine system converts wind energy into electric energy. Since the velocity of wind is random in nature, control of the angular velocity of the blade is necessary in order to generate high quality electric power. The control of a blade can be divided into a stall regulation and a pitch control types. The stall regulation type which is based on the characteristics of an aerodynamic stall of the blades is simple and cheap, but it suffers from fluctuation of the resulting power. Or the contrary, pitch control type is based on the fact that the torque of the blade can be changed by varying the pitch angle of the blade. It is mechanically and mathematically complicated, but the control performance is better than that of the stall regulation type. This paper suggests a method of denying a mathematical modeling of the wind turbine system, and develops a speed control algorithm by pitch control. The validity of the algorithm is demonstrated with the results produced through sets of simulation.

In general, tires require various sensors and power supply devices, such as batteries, to obtain information such as pressure, temperature, acceleration, and the friction coefficient between the tire and the road in real time. However, these sensors have a size limitation because they are mounted on a tire, and their batteries have limited usability due to short replacement cycles, leading to additional replacement costs. Therefore, vibration energy harvesting technology, which converts the dynamic strain energy generated from the tire into electrical energy and then stores the energy in a power supply, is advantageous. In this study, the output voltage and power generated from piezoelectric elements are predicted through finite element analysis under static state and transient state conditions, taking into account the dynamic characteristics of tires. First, the tire and piezoelectric elements are created as a finite element model and then the natural frequency and mode shapes are identified through modal analysis. Next, in the static state, with the piezoelectric element attached to the inside of the tire, the voltage distribution at the contact surface between the tire and the road is examined. Lastly, in the transient state, with the tire rotating at the speeds of 30 km/h and 50 km/h, the output voltage and power characteristics of the piezoelectric elements attached to four locations inside the tire are evaluated.
We investigated an emerging magnetic loop dynamically formed on the Sun, which has the effective footpoint heating source that may play a key role in heating a solar atmosphere with free magnetic energy in it. It is suggested that the heating source could be related to local compression of a plasma in the emerging loop by means of Lorentz force, which converts the magnetic energy to the internal energy of the plasma that is used to reaccelerate a decelerated downflow along the loop, eventually generating the source when the kinetic energy of the downflow is thermalized. By analyzing very high-cadense data obtained from a magnetohydrodynamic simulation, we demonstrate how the local compression is activated to trigger the generation of the heating source. This reveals a characteristic of the emerging loop that experiences a dynamic loop-loop interaction, which causes the local compression and makes the plasma gain the internal energy converted from the magnetic energy in the atmosphere. What determines the characteristic that could distinguish an illuminated emerging loop from a nonilluminated one is discussed.

In this paper, an energy harvesting sensor network system is modeled and simulated by using the DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism. The system is composed of a sink (master) node, which is battery or mains powered, and a set of sensor (slave) nodes, each of which harvests ambient energy and converts it into electrical energy. For simulation, (i) the behavior of energy harvesting and storing circuits of the slave node is partitioned into a set of piecewise continuous segments and then each segment is represented as a discrete state; (ii) the interaction among the master node and components of the slave node is investigated preciously; and (iii) the investigated result is modeled and simulated by using the DEVS formalism.
A flexible piezoelectric energy harvester(f-PEH) that converts tiny mechanical and vibrational energy resources into electric signals without any restraints is drawing attention as a self-powered source to operate flexible electronic systems. In particular, the nanocomposites-based f-PEHs fabricated by a simple and low-cost spin-coating method show a mechanically stable and high output performance compared to only piezoelectric polymers or perovskite thin films. Here, the non-piezoelectric polymer matrix of the nanocomposite-based f-PEH is replaced by a P(VDF-TrFE) piezoelectric polymer to improve the output performance generated from the f-PEH. The piezoelectric hybrid nanocomposite is produced by distributing the perovskite PZT nanoparticles inside the piezoelectric elastomer; subsequently, the piezoelectric hybrid material is spin-coated onto a thin metal substrate to achieve a nanocomposite-based f-PEH. A fabricated energy device after a two-step poling process shows a maximum output voltage of 9.4 V and a current of 160 nA under repeated mechanical bending. Finite element analysis(FEA) simulation results support the experimental results.

Solar cell converts light energy to electric energy. But a solar cell generates low power, PV module is fabricated by connected in series with dozens of solar cell. Owing to solar cell connected in series, power of PV module is influenced by shading or mismatch power of solar cells. To prevent power loss of PV module by shading or mismatch current, Bypass diodes are installed in PV module. Bypass diode operating reverse voltage by shading or mismatch power of solar cells bypass mismatch current. However, bypass diode in module exposed outdoor is easily damaged by surge voltage. In this paper, we confirm characteristics variation of PV module with damaged bypass diode. As a result, power of PV module with damaged bypass diode is reduced and Temperature of that is increased.
