  • Wastewater treatment plant(WWTP) has been recognized as a high energy consuming plant. Usually many WWTPs has been operated in the excessive operation conditions in order to maintain stable wastewater treatment. The energy required at WWTPs consists of various subparts such as pumping, aeration, and office maintenance. For management of energy comes from process operation, it can be useful to operators to provide some information about energy variations according to the adjustment of operational variables. In this study, multiple regression analysis was used to establish an energy estimation model. The independent variables for estimation energy were selected among operational variables. The $R^2$ value in the regression analysis appeared 0.68, and performance of the electric power prediction model had less than ${\pm}5%$ error.

  • The CANFLEX fuel bundle has been developed by KAERI/AECL jointly to facilitate the use of various fuel cycles in CANDU-6 reactor. As one of the design evaluations, the structural analysis of the fuel bundles by hydraulic drag force is performed to evaluate the fuel integrity in the period of the refuelling in CANDU-6. The structural integrity is evaluated by FEM modelling for the complicated bundles configuration in channel. It is noted that the present analysis method is newly developed for the structural integrity evaluation. The analysis results show that the fuel bundle is shown to keep its structural integrity during the refuelling.

  • We analyzed the absorption spectra of acetone in the 3.37 ㎛ mid-infrared range using the off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy technique to develop a real-time, in-line breath analysis device. The linear relationship between acetone concentration and absorption increase was confirmed as 0.32%/ppm, indicating that the developed device allows for a quantitative analysis of acetone concentration in exhaled breath. To further confirm the feasibility of using our device for breath analysis, we measured the acetone concentration of human breath samples at the sub-ppm level.

  • In this paper, it is tried to combine the decomposition method and econometric analysis for the extension of the decomposition method. Since two approaches approach the energy efficiency problem in the different perspectives, it is believed that it is hard to reconcile the results of two approaches. In the results of energy intensity effect analysis with the econometric method, it is found that the increase in the energy price results in the improvement of energy intensity effect. In enconometric analysis of energy efficiency, the coefficient of a time trend measured as a proxy of energy efficiency is significant and has a negative effect on the energy consumption. This finding implies the energy efficiency improves very slowly over time. In addition, the directions of energy efficiency improvement in the decomposition method are consistent with those in the econometric analysis in four industries. This finding indicates that two methods may be in complementary cooperation for the analysis of energy efficiency. Therefore, it is needed the efforts to seek the complementarity between two methods for the enhancement of academic and policy implications.

  • In this study, the energy and economic analysis of KIER Zero Energy Solar House (KIER ZeSH) was carried out. KIER ZeSH was designed and constructed in the end of 2009 for the purpose of more than 70% energy self-sufficiency in total load as well as less than 20% of additional construction cost. The several building energy conservation technologies like as super insulation, high performance window, wast heat recovery system, etc and renewable energy system. The renewable heating and cooling system is a kind of solar thermal system combined with geo-source heat pump as a back-up device. The capacity of 3.15kW solar BIPV system was also installed on the roof. The measurement by monitering system of ZeSH was conducted for one year from November 2009 to October 2010. The energy self-sufficiency and economic analysis were conducted based on the this monitering result. As a result, the energy self sufficiency is about 83% which is higher than that of the target and the payback period is 11 years.

  • The covenant of Mayors initiative includes the commitment of the municipalities-signatories to reduce voluntarily the greenhouse gas emissions over 20--- by 2020 within their boundaries and obligates them to develop and submit an energy consumption analysis and a sustainable energy action plan within a year from the adhesion. The present paper discusses the energy profile of three medium-sized north-eastern Greek Municipalities (Kavala-MoK, Alexandroupolis-MoA, Drama-MoD) through the analysis of their municipal energy balance. The results of the total final energy consumption per capita include 14.10MWh/capita, 14.24MWh/capita and 12.91MWh/capita for MoK, MoA and MoD respectively. The analysis highlighted the increased energy consumption of the private sectors, namely residential and tertiary building sand private transport. The assessment of the municipalities' energy profiles along with examination of national regulations and action plans and investigation of best available practices within the Covenant of Mayors shaped the development of the sustainable energy action plans of the examined municipalities that is presented in this paper. The proposed pathway towards low-carbon municipalities can be considered a representative case study and a starting point for other municipalities with similar characteristics.

  • This paper presents the work on evaluating the LCC (Life-Cycle Cost) of a heat pump system as unutilized energy system. The river water as an unutilized energy source was used for the heat source of heat pump system. LCC analysis is a concrete method for evaluating the economical efficiency of energy facilities of building. The present case study shows an example of adequate use of the LCC analysis on a heat pump system and conventional gas boiler and refrigerator for building heat supply. A life cycle of 20 years was used to calculated net present value of energy cost. Over a 20 year life cycle, the energy cost could be reduced by 612 million won if a heat pump system were used instead of a conventional boiler and an absorption refrigerator.

  • Energy consumption in buildings is currently a real problem. That is why both assessment of energy performance and effective energy management including renewable energy system are essential. Thus, this paper focuses on a case study to analyze the energy performance and cooling & heating energy saving of a large scale shopping store in Daejeon city. The reference building is simulated by using TRNSYS dynamic simulation tool to examine its annual energy consumption. For annual energy analysis of building, one year energy consumption is surveyed in the field. The related study is carried out in large scale shopping store to investigate the energy consumption and energy use trend of heating, cooling, hot water, lighting, ventilation, equipments and other. The evaluation of energy performance of the geothermal heat pump system installed in a large scale shopping store is also analyzed by TRNSYS tool. From simulation results, it evaluated that the geothermal heat pump system is effective energy savings method in large scale shopping store.

  • Today, the amount of energy consumption in the university campuses is huge. The effort for the energy consumption reduction in university campuses is certainly needed by the following reason; first, contribution to the greenhouse gas discharge reduction demand. Second, energy cost reduction in university campus. Third, contribution to the improvement of the social awareness as the maximum higher educational institutions. The energy consumption analysis of current situation has to be executed for the energy consumption reduction in university campus. The energy reduction possibility in which it exists in university campuses can be understood through the energy consumption analysis. And the application is possible as fundamental data of the policy establishment for the effective energy reduction in university campuses. Especially, the best way to reduce the energy consumption in university campuses that is the energy consumption reduction of buildings. Accordingly, this study derived the plans for improving the performance of energy in the university building by analyzing case study, so this study analyzed the performance of energy for the university building through VE, a program for the analysis of building energy. Based on this result, this study classified the plans improving the efficiency of energy in university building into the plan for passive control and active control respectively, and suggested some concrete plans, and finally evaluated the performance of decreasing energy consumption for each plan.
