Understanding of reflectance of solar concentrators is important for assessing concentration performance. However inaccurate data about refractive indices of constituent materials and dust accumulation on the surface often prevent figuring out reflectance variations. The current study proposes an approach calculating concentrator reflectance based on the refractive index of glass obtained from reflectance and transmittance measurements. This approach improved accuracy of solar-averaged reflectance from 2.9% to 0.4% compared to the use of existing reference data. Reflectance variations with incidence angles are negligible up to $60^{\circ}C$ at various glass thicknesses. When concentrators are contaminated with dust during 2 months specular reflectance loss of vertically exposed concentrators is less than 7%. However for horizontally exposed concentrators the loss significantly increases up to 40% while dependence of reflectance on incidence angles becomes strong. Measurements of hemispherical reflectance indicate that 80 percentage of the loss comes from scattering rather than absorption by dust. Data of refractive index and reflectance provided in the current study will help estimate or model the concentrated solar flux.
In this paper, we propose a scheme for partially dynamic lane control for energy saving in multilane-based high-speed Ethernet. In this scheme, among the given transmission lanes, at least one lane is always operating, and the remaining lanes are dynamically activated to alleviate the network performance in terms of queuing delay and packet loss in the range of acceptance. The number of active lanes is determined by the decision algorithm based on the information regarding traffic and queue status. The reconciliation sublayer adjusts the transmission lane with the updated number of lanes received from the algorithm, which guarantees no processing delay in the media access control layer, no overhead, and minimal delay of the exchanging control frames. The proposed scheme is simulated in terms of queuing delay, packet loss rate, lane changes, and energy saving using an OPNET simulator. Our results indicate that energy savings of around 55% (or, when the offered load is less than 0.25, a significant additional savings of up to 75%) can be obtained with a queuing delay of less than 1 ms, a packet loss of less than $10^{-4}$, and a control packet exchange time of less than $0.5{\mu}s$ in random traffic.
A substantial body of evidence has emerged over the last decade in support of the novel concept that dietary calcium and dairy foods play an important role in regulating energy metabolism and thereby promote healthy weight management and reduce obesity risk. This concept has been demonstrated in experimental animals studies, cross-sectional and prospective population studies and a number of randomized clinical trials. Notably, the effects of dairy foods in weight management are more consistent than the effects of supplemental calcium across clinical trials, and calcium per se is responsible for approximately 40-50% of the effects of dairy. The calcium component is only effective in individuals with chronically low calcium intake, as it serves to prevent the endocrine response to low calcium diets which otherwise favors adipocyte energy storage; calcium also serves to promote energy loss via formation of calcium soaps in the gastrointestinal tract and thereby reduce fat absorption. The calcium-independent anti-obesity bioactivity of dairy resides primarily in whey. The key components identified to date are leucine and bioactive peptides resulting from whey protein digestion. The high concentration of leucine in whey stimulates a repartitioning of dietary energy from adipose tissue to skeletal muscle where it provides the energy required for leucine-stimulated protein synthesis, resulting in increased loss of adipose tissue and preservation of skeletal muscle mass during weight loss. Finally, dairy rich diets suppress the oxidative and inflammatory responses to obesity and thereby attenuate the diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk associated with obesity.
The existing screen mirroring systems are vulnerable to packet loss and inefficient for mobile devices with limited energy capacity. To overcome these problems, we propose a packet loss robust and energy efficient screen mirroring system for mobile device. The proposed system employs systematic Raptor codes for a forward error correction method to mitigate the video quality degradation that is caused by packet loss over wireless networks. For the mobile device energy saving, the proposed system shapes the screen mirroring traffic and adjusts the Raptor encoding parameters. In this paper, the proposed system is fully implemented on single board computers and is examined in a real Wi-Fi Direct network.
The energy constraint is still a common issue for the practical application of wireless sensors, since they are usually powered by batteries which limit their lifetime. In this paper, a practical compound energy efficiency strategy is proposed and realized in the implementation of a real time wireless sensor platform. The platform is intended for wireless structural monitoring applications and consists of three parts, wireless sensing unit, base station and data acquisition and configuration software running in a computer within the Matlab environment. The high energy efficiency of the wireless sensor platform is achieved by a proposed adaptive radio transmission power control algorithm, and some straightforward methods, including adopting low power ICs and high efficient power management circuits, low duty cycle radio polling and switching off radio between two adjacent data packets' transmission. The adaptive transmission power control algorithm is based on the statistical average of the path loss estimations using a moving average filter. The algorithm is implemented in the wireless node and relies on the received signal strength feedback piggybacked in the ACK packet from the base station node to estimate the path loss. Therefore, it does not need any control packet overheads. Several experiments are carried out to investigate the link quality of radio channels, validate and evaluate the proposed adaptive transmission power control algorithm, including static and dynamic experiments.

Thermal bridge on a building envelope causes additional heat loss which increases the heating energy consumption. As the higher building insulation performance is required, heat loss through thermal bridge becomes higher proportion among total building heating energy consumption. For the exterior insulation and finish system, thermal bridge between window frame and concrete wall should be constidered as one of main reasons of heat loss. In this study, the thermal bridge barrier between window frame and concrete wall(STAR) was proposed as the best practice for reducing thermal bridge. The STAR was confirmed that the use of thermal bridge barrier imporved the annual heat energy capacity by 35% or more and the innitial construction cost by 7.4% or less because of additional interior insulation against condensation. Finally the life cycle cost during 20 year by heating energy of a building reduced by 25% or more compared with the exist technology. This STAR thermal bridge barrier will be used as the main technology to improve the energy efficiency of building.
In order to investigate forced convection heat transfer due to the wind from the inner surface of a cavity receiver for a parabolic dish type solar energy collecting system, a two-dimensional rectangular cavity receiver is prepared and installed in a wind tunnel. The convection heat transfer coefficient of the inner surface of the receiver is dependent on the direction and the velocity of the wind. The attack angle of the cavity and the air velocity in the tunnel are controlled in a wide range so that the effects of the attack angle and the wind velocity on the heat transfer coefficient can be studied. The skirt is installed at the aperture of the cavity in order to reduce convective heat loss. The effects of the length and the installation angle of the skirt on convection heat transfer of the cavity are tested. It is found that convection heat loss can be significantly reduced by installing the skirt. Also, it is known that heat transfer from the cavity can be minimized if the angle of the skirt is $90^{\circ}$ to the outer surface of the cavity.
This study aimed at quantifying the impact of envelope insulation on energy consumption for thermal controls in residential buildings in southern part of Korea. A series of parametric simulations for a range of R-values of walls, roof, floor, and windows were computationally conducted for a prototypical Korean detached house. Analysis revealed that the total amount of heat gain was larger than that of heat loss, while the amount of energy for cooling was smaller than that for heating due to the difference of system efficiency; the envelope heat transfer was more significant for the heat loss, thus, the increase of the envelope insulation was more effective to reduce heating load; and there were certain levels of envelope insulation after which the energy saving effect was not significant. These findings are expected to be a fundamental database for the decision of proper insulation level in Korean residential buildings.

The reliability of 3D NAND flash memory cell is affected by the charge migration which can be divided into the vertical migration and the lateral migration. To clarify the difference of two migrations, the activation energy of the charge loss is extracted and compared in a conventional square device pattern and a new test pattern where the perimeter of the gate is exaggerated but the area is same. The charge loss is larger in the suggested test pattern and the activation energy is extracted to be 0.058 eV while the activation energy is 0.28 eV in the square pattern.
Classical molecular dynamics simulations (MDS) were conducted to simulate nano-sized cluster collisions with a weakly attractive static surface. Energy exchanges associated with the cluster collision and the adhesion probability are discussed. Routes of the energy exchanges and the kinetic energy loss are vastly altered in their mode according to the cluster incident velocity. In the elastic collision regime ($V_0$<0.1), most incident kinetic energy is recovered into the rebounding kinetic energy, but a little loss in the incident kinetic energy causes the cluster adhesion. Dissipated kinetic energy is converted into the rotational energy. In the weakly plastic collision regime (0.1<$V_0$<0.3), the transition from elastic to plastic collision occurs, and a large part of the released potential energy is converted into rebounding translational energy. For strongly plastic collisions ($V_0$>0.3), permanent cluster deformation occurs with extensive collapse of the lattice structure inducing a solid-to-solid phase transition; moreover, most of the cluster kinetic energy is converted into cluster potential and thermal energy.
