The Effect of Level of Crude Protein and Available Lysine on Finishing Pig Performance, Nitrogen Balance and Nutrient Digestibility

  • Two trials were conducted to investigate the effect of decreasing the crude protein (CP) content of diets for finishing pigs containing two levels of available lysine on nutrient digestibility, nitrogen (N) balance and production performance. Ten finishing diets containing five levels of CP (on average 144, 155, 168, 182 and 193 g/kg fresh basis) and two levels of available lysine (6.9 and 8.2 g/kg fresh basis) were formulated. The diets were offered to pigs on a performance trial (n = 800 Large White (LW)${\times}$Landrace (LR) pigs) from 10 wk of age until finish at 21 wks+5 d of age. Average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were calculated. In addition, a digestibility/N balance trial was conducted using pigs (n = 80 $LW{\times}LR$) housed in metabolism crates. Digestibility of dry matter (DM), CP, oil, fibre and energy was determined. N balance values were determined through analysis of N content of urine and faeces ('as determined'). N balance values were also calculated using ADG values and assuming that 16% of growth is protein deposition ("as calculated"). Pig performance was poor between 10 and 13 wk of age which indicated that the dietary treatments were nutritionally inadequate for pigs less than 40 kg. There was a significant (p<0.01) quadratic effect of increasing CP level on feed intake, ADG and FCR from 10 to 13 wk which indicated that the lower CP levels did not supply adequate levels of essential or non-essential amino acids. There was no effect of increasing available lysine level throughout the early period, which in conjunction with the response in older pigs, suggested that both 8.2 and 6.9 g/kg available lysine were insufficient to drive optimum growth. There was a positive response (p<0.05) to increasing available lysine level from 13 wk to finish which indicated that 6.9 g/kg available lysine was not adequate for finishing pigs. Energy digestibility decreased with decreasing CP level of diets containing 6.9 g/kg available lysine which may be attributed to the higher fibre content of the lower CP diets. Nitrogen excretion (g/d) was lowered when dietary CP was reduced regardless of whether the values were determined through balance or calculated using ADG. Calculated N excretion decreased linearly (p<0.001) and quadratically (p<0.001) with decreasing dietary CP content. When the N balance figures calculated in this study were compared with those quoted in the Northern Ireland and English Nitrates Directive Action Programmes, N excretion was less per pig (wean to finish) offered a 169 g/kg CP, 8.2 g/kg available lysine diet (2.39 kg vs 3.41 kg (Northern Ireland) and 2.93 kg (England)).

The interaction of Apolipoprotein A5 gene promoter region T-1131C polymorphism (rs12286037) and lifestyle modification on plasma triglyceride levels in Japanese

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Apolipoprotein A5 gene promoter region T-1131C polymorphism (APOA5 T-1131C) is known to be associated with elevated plasma TG levels, although little is known of the influence of the interaction between APOA5 T-1131C and lifestyle modification on TG levels. To investigate this matter, we studied APOA5 T-1131C and plasma TG levels of subjects participating in a three-month lifestyle modification program. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A three-month lifestyle modification program was conducted with 297 participants (Age: $57{\pm}8years$) in Izumo City, Japan, from 2001-2007. Changes in energy balance (the difference between energy intake and energy expenditure) and BMI were used to evaluate the participants' responses to the lifestyle modification. RESULTS: Even after adjusting for confounding factors, plasma TG levels were significantly different at baseline among three genotype subgroups: TT, $126{\pm}68mg/dl$; TC, $134{\pm}74mg/dl$; and CC, $172{\pm}101mg/dl$. Lifestyle modification resulted in significant reductions in plasma TG levels in the TT, TC, and CC genotype subgroups: $-21.9{\pm}61.0mg/dl$, $-20.9{\pm}51.0mg/dl$, and $-42.6{\pm}78.5mg/dl$, respectively, with no significant differences between them. In a stepwise regression analysis, age, APOA5 T-1131C, body mass index (BMI), homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and the 18:1/18:0 ratio showed independent association with plasma TG levels at baseline. In a general linear model analysis, APOA5 T-1131C C-allele carriers showed significantly greater TG reduction with decreased energy balance than wild type carriers after adjustment for age, gender, and baseline plasma TG levels. CONCLUSIONS: The genetic effects of APOA5 T-1131C independently affected plasma TG levels. However, lifestyle modification was effective in significantly reducing plasma TG levels despite the APOA5 T-1131C genotype background.

  • It is necessary that machine tool structures should be designed so that they will cause a minimum chance of machining chatter. In order to do this, a computer program package is developed utilizing Finite Element Method, modal flexibility and energy balance method. Validity of the program package is verified through computer simulation analysis and impulse test of a simplified machine tool structure.

Effects of Restricted Feeding on Intake, Digestion, Nitrogen Balance and Metabolizable Energy in Small and Large Body Sized Sheep Breeds

  • Ninety six intact male sheep (12 months old with mean live weight of about 35 kg) were used to assess the effects of restricted feeding on intake, digestion, nitrogen balance and metabolizable energy (ME). The animals were selected from two known Iranian small and large body size breeds: 48 Sangsari (S) and 48 Afshari (A), and were divided into two equal groups: restricted (R) and a control (C). Each group had 48 sheep (24 each breed). The experiment had a duration of 15 and 75 days adaptation and treatment periods, respectively. The animals were individually placed in metabolism cages and fed a diet based on pelleted concentrate mixture consisting of alfalfa, barley grain, cottonseed meal and barley straw. The animals in group C were fed ad libitum, while animals in group R were fed at maintenance level and maintained a relatively constant live weight. During the experiment, the average daily weight gain (ADG) of S and A animals in R group was 0.34 and -0.25 g/d (0.02 and -0.02 $g/kg^{0.75}/d$), respectively. While that of S and A animals in C group was 174.4 and 194.4 g/d (10.16 and 11.48 $g/kg^{0.75}/d$), respectively. Nitrogen (N) was determined by both measured and regression methods. Animals of R group stayed at about zero N balance (0.01 and -0.00 g $N/kg^{0.75}/d$ for S and A animals, respectively). The N retention of animals of both S and A breeds in C group were similar (0.45 and 0.46 g $N/kg^{0.75}/d$, respectively). Digestible organic matter intake (DOMI) and ME requirement for maintenance (MEm) were measured by both constant weight technique and regression method by regressing N balance on DOMI and ME intake on ADG. The measured DOMI during constant weight was 24.61 and 24.27 g $DOMI/kg^{0.75}/d$ and the calculated DOMI from regression equation was 24.24 and 24.22 g $DOMI/kg^{0.75}/d$, for S and A animals, respectively. The measured MEm was 402 and 401 kJ $ME/kg^{0.75}/d$ and the calculated MEm from regression analysis was 398 and 400 kJ $ME/kg^{0.75}/d$ for S and A breeds, respectively. There were no significant differences between both measured and regression techniques. There was no significant difference between S and A breeds for DOMI, N retention, MEm, digestibility and metabolizability values. Digestibility values for OM, GE and CP and metabolizability were significantly (p<0.05) higher in restricted feeding sheep compared with that of sheep fed ad libitum.

EnergyPlus에 적용된 Simple Window Model의 한계와 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Limitation and Improvement of Simple Window Model applied to EnergyPlus)

  • EnergyPlus, which is widely used in various fields, provides Simple Window Model, a window model that can be used practically. However, the results of building load using the model are different from those of the standard model. The main cause of the deviation by Simple Window Model was analyzed to be due to the assumption that all windows were considered as single layer. The purpose of this study is to propose a window model that improves the cause of deviation by Simple Window Model and can be easily calculated from the algebraic relations. The proposed window model solved the heat balance equation algebraically by using seven window characteristic coefficients. The coefficient relationships consisted of the heat transmission coefficient and solar heat gain coefficient as input parameters make practical use and calculation possible. As a result of comparing the deviation between each window model by implementing the dynamic analysis method, the proposed window model showed that the deviation of the total heating/cooling energy consumption was reduced to 1/3 compared to Simple Window Model for one year. Although the maximum energy consumption did not show any significant improvement, the indoor temperature evaluation showed significantly reduced deviation.

  • 상향식 접근법을 통한 국내 농업 시설재배부분의 온실가스 배출잠재량을 산정하고 이를 바탕으로 감축잠재량 및 감축한계비용을 도출하였다. 이를 위해 시설재배부분의 활동량을 정의하였고 국내의 각종 문헌 및 통계자료를 이용해 시설재배부분의 에너지원별 사용량을 추정하였다. 추정된 에너지사용량을 통해 에너지원별 원단위를 도출하고 이를 이용해 2030년까지의 온실가스 발생 잠재량을 산정하였다. 다음으로, 국내에서 고려하고 있는 감축수단별 감축효과 분석을 통해 감축수단별 감축잠재량 및 감축한계비용 분석을 수행하였다.

현열 축열조의 성능에 관한 엑서지 해석 (Exergy analysis on the storage performance of the sensible heat storage unit)

  • The exergy analysis on the heat storage performance of the senible heat storage unit which consists of the heat storage material in the concentric annulus and the hot fluid flowing through the inner tube is performed. Heat transfer characteristics which are necessary for the performance of the exergy analysis is obtained from the energy balance equations and the second law of thermodynamics. As the index of heat storage performance, the exergy lossnumber $N_{s}$, and exergy storage ratio from the concepts of the second law of thermodynamics are defined. Results are ovtained for the grometry of the storage unit, the Biot number Bi, ambient temperature $T_{o}$ as parameters. From these results the exergy storage ratio can be considered as the efficiency of the hat storage unit and is introduced as a guide to design.

Leakage Magnetic Field Suppression Using Dual-Transmitter Topology in EV Wireless Charging

  • This paper proposes an active leakage magnetic field (LMF) suppression scheme, which uses the dual-transmitter (DT) topology, for EV wireless charging systems (EVWCS). The two transmitter coils are coplanar, concentric and driven by separate inverters. The LMF components generated by the three coils cancel each other out to reduce the total field strength. This paper gives a detailed theoretical analysis on the operating principles of the proposed scheme. Finite element analysis is used to simulate the LMF distribution patterns. Experimental results show that when there is no coil misalignment, 97% of the LMF strength can be suppressed in a 1kW prototype. These results also show that the impact on efficiency is small. The trade-off between LMF suppression and efficiency is revealed, and a control strategy to balance these two objectives is presented.

  • A matched asymptotic analysis is conducted for a compressible rotating flow in a cylindrical container when a mechanical and/or a thermal disturbance is imposed on the wall. The system Ekman number is assumed to be very small. The conditions for the Taylor-Proudman column in the interior, which were also given in the companion paper Park & Hyun, 2002) by means of the energy balancing analysis, have been re-derived. The concept of the variable, the energy content $e[{\equiv}T+2 {\alpha}^2 {\gamma}{\nu}]$, is reformulated, and its effectiveness in characterizing the energy transport mechanism is delineated. It is seen that, under the condition of the Taylor-Proudman column, numerous admissible theoretical solutions for interior flow exist with an associated wail boundary condition. Some canonical examples are illustrated with comprehensive physical descriptions. The differential heating problem on the top and bottom endwall disks is revisited by using the concept of the energy content. The results are shown to be in line with the previous findings.

에너지가격변화의 경제적 효과에 관한 연구 (Measuring the Economic Impact of the Energy Price Changes in Korea)

  • We investigate a practical method of calculating the impact of multiple domestic energy price change on the final demand, production, the export and import change, the change in the balance of payment of Korean economy. By combining an existing computable general equilibrium (CGE) model with the traditional input-output analysis with two additional assumptions on the price behavior, we provide a cost-effective method of analyzing the impact of multiple energy price changes on the domestic economy. The energy price shock we used in this paper is 0.127% increase weighted by the sectoral productions. The total impacts on price level and GDP are 1.258% and -0.940%, respectively. The impact on the total output (GDP and intermediate goods) is about -1.580%.
