하이드록실 아민으로 처리한 아크릴 섬유의 중금속 흡착특성 (II) -구리 (II)흡착과 그 키일레이트의 성질- (The Adsorption Characteristics of Heavy Metals by Acrylic Fibers Treated with Hydroxylamine (II) - Properties of Cu(II) Adsorption and its Chelates -)

  • In order to investigate a practical application of fibrous adsorbents to heavy metal ions, amidoxime fibers, as a particular class of solid chelate agents, were prepared by hydroxylamine treatment for acrylic fibers in a recipe of neutralization. Among the important problems from plant effluents are toxic concentrations of heavy metals such as copper. Accordingly, the properties of Cu (II) adsorption and its chelates were studied. The results obtained are as follows; The fibrous adsorbents have the property of increasing the swelling volumes by amidoximation. The adsorption of Cu (II) ion is characterized by an endothermic reaction, which is estimated as the plus values in the enthalpy change ($\delta$H=1.30 Kcal/mol. and 3.14 Kcal/mol.). The Cu (II) ions are adsorbed in the range of pH $3\~8$ and the maximum adsorptions are occurred about pH 8. Owing to the anions $(NO_3^-,\;Cl^-)$ of copper salts, amidoxime fibers form 1:1 and 2:1 (ligand: metal) chelating complexes with Cu (II). The nitrate anion chelates to amide I (NH) of amidoxime groups and the chlorine anion does to nitrosyl (NO). These effects relate to the crystallization of the complex and the thermal property.

수중 이온 환경이 폐굴껍질에 대한 불소 이온의 흡착 양상에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Aqueous Ionic, Condition on the Adsorption Features of Fluoride Ion on Waste Oyster Shell)

  • The feasibility of the employment of waste oyster shell as an adsorbent for fluoride ion has been tested by considering the effect ionic condition on the adsorption of fluoride ion on oyster shell. The adsorption capacity of oyster shell for fluoride ion was found not to be significantly influenced by the ionic strength of aqueous environment. The existence of complexing agent such as nitrilotriacetic acid in wastewater decreased the adsorbed amount of fluoride ion by forming a stable complex of $CaT^-$ and the adsorption reaction of fluoride ion on oyster shell was examined to be endothermic. The coexisting heavy metal ionic adsorbate in wastewater hindered the adsorption of fluoride ion, however, its adsorbed amount was increased as the particulate size of adsorbent was decreased. Finally, a serial adsorption column test has been conducted for a practical application of adsorption process and the breakthrough of the column adsorption was observed in 22 hours under the experimental condition.

  • SUS 304 발열선(직경 2.3mil)과 $Zr-KClO_4$ 기폭화약을 사용한 전기식 착화기에 대한 열특성을 시험하고 Fitted Wire Model로 분석한 결과, 약 $300^{\circ}C$ 부근에서 기폭화약과 관련된 열특성 파라미터가 급격하게 변화되었다. 이 현상은 기폭화약에 사용된 $KClO_4$의 상변화로 인한 흡열과 발열선과 기폭화약 계면의 물리적 변화로 발생된 것으로 판단되며, 결과로 열특성 시험으로 구한 파라미터가 유용한 온도 범위를 제시하였다.

Synthesis and Solution Properties of La(III)-N-ethylmorpholine Complex

  • The complex of the composition LaL(N$O_3)_3\;(H_2O)_2$ is prepared by the reaction of La($NO_3)_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ with Nethylmorpholine in aqueous medium. The ligand is involved in the complex as a neutral species where the chelation occurs via the oxygen of the ligand moiety and the nitrate groups as bidentate ligand. The chemical structure of the studied complex is confirmed through IR, XRD, and thermal analysis data. The complexation equilibria of La(III) with N-ethylmopholine is studied in aqueous medium at ionic strength I = 0.1 mol${\cdot}dm^{-3}\;KNO_3$ and at 25, 35 and 45 ${^{\circ}C}$, respectively. The thermodynamic parameters $\Delta$G, $\Delta$H and $\Delta$S values were calculated to prove the association with the complex formation. It is clearly observed that the process is accompanied by absorption of heat, i.e. endothermic process, while the entropy does not change greatly attributed to the release of constant number of water molecules during chelate formation.

  • 고체추진기관의 연소 환경에서 복잡한 형상을 갖는 내열 복합재료의 온도 및 밀도분포를 예측할 수 있는 방법을 개발하였다. 복합재료의 내부 열반응은 Arrhenius 모델을 이용하였으며, 표면 삭마반응은 Zvyagin 이론을 사용하였다. 표면 삭마에 의한 경계조건 및 격자 이동은 Rezoning 기법을 사용하였으며 열분해에 의한 흡열반응 효과는 열분해 가스의 조성비에 기준한 유효 비열 값을 이용하여 계산되었다. 형상이 복잡한 부품으로 이루어진 2차원 축대칭 노즐 조립체에 적용된 방법은 향후 3차원 FEM 열구조 해석에 활용을 목표로 발전될 것이다.

석탄계 활성탄에 의한 수중의 메틸렌블루와 페놀 흡착 특성 (Adsorption Characteristics of Methylene Blue and Phenol from Aqueous Solution using Coal-based Activated Carbon)

  • The efficiency of coal-based activated carbon in removing methylene blue (MB) and phenol from aqueous solution was investigated in batch experiments. The batch adsorption kinetics were described by applying pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and first order reversible reaction. The results showed that the adsorption of MB and phenol occurs complexed process including external mass transfer and intraparticle diffusion. The maximum adsorption capacity obtained from Langmuir isotherm was 461.0 mg/g for MB and 194.6 mg/g for phenol, respectively. The values of activation parameters such as free energy (${\Delta}G^0$), enthalpy (${\Delta}H^0$), and entropy (${\Delta}S^0$) were also determined as -19.0~-14.9 kJ/mol, 25.4 kJ/mol, and 135.2 J/mol K for MB and 51.8~54.1 kJ/mol, -29.0 kJ/mol, and -76.4 kJ/mol K for phenol, respectively. The MB adsorption was found to be endothermic and spontaneous process. However, the CV adsorption was found to be exothermic and non-spontaneous process.

  • This study evaluates the adsorption properties of Sr ions in an aqueous solution of the synthetic zeolite (Z-Y1) prepared using coal fly ash generated from a thermal power plant. In order to investigate the adsorption characteristics, the effects of various parameters such as the initial concentrations of Sr ion, contact time, and solution pH were investigated in a batch mode. The Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson model fitted the adsorption isotherm data better than the Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacity of Sr ions, as determined the Langmuir model, was 181.68 mg/g. It was found that by varying the Sr ion concentration, pH, and temperature, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model describes the adsorption kinetics of the Sr ion better than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The calculated thermodynamic parameters of ${\Delta}H^0$ and ${\Delta}G^0$ showed that the adsorption of Sr ions on Z-Y1 was occurred through a spontaneous and an endothermic reaction. We found that the adsorption of Sr ions by Z-Y1 was more affected by pH than by temperature and Sr ion concentration.

  • Langmuir-Blodgett technique offers a convenient and elegant way to organic conducting systems for ultra thin films. In conducting systems based on LB films, TCNQ derivatives have been extensively studied as electron acceptor molecules in a large number of organic conducting systems.[1] A very interesting UV-visible spectra of octadecylviologen-$(TCNQ^-)_2$ was obtained from a methylenechloride and acetonitrile mixture, and from Langmuir-Blodgett films. The ESR characteristics of octadecylviologen-$(TCNQ^-)_2$ were studied to understand conducting mechanism and structure of LB films. The ESR spectra infer that the N-dococylquinolinium-TCNQ LB films has anisotropic property. But octadecylviologen-$(TCNQ^-)_2$ does not show angular dependence. As the temperature increases from 350K to 450K, the ESR signal of LB films becomes sharp. Scanning calorimetry(DSC) of octadecylviologen-$(TCNQ^-)_2$ provides the endothermic reaction temperature of the films, 340K, which corresponds to the temperature, 365K, of the new ESR signal.

Solid Waste from Swine Wastewater as a Fuel Source for Heat Production

  • This study was to evaluate the feasibility of recycling the solids separated from swine wastewater treatment process as a fuel source for heat production and to provide a data set on the gas emissions and combustion properties. Also, in this study, the heavy metals in ash content were analyzed for its possible use as a fertilizer. Proximate analysis of the solid recovered from the swine wastewater after flocculation with organic polymer showed high calorific (5,330.50 kcal/kg) and low moisture (15.38%) content, indicating that the solid separated from swine wastewater can be used as an alternative fuel source. CO and NOx emissions were found to increase with increasing temperature. Combustion efficiency of the solids was found to be stable (95 to 98%) with varied temperatures. Thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) showed five thermal effects (four exothermic and one endothermic), and these effects were distinguished in three stages, water evaporation, heterogeneous combustion of hydrocarbons and decomposition reaction. Based on the calorific value and combustion stability results, solid separated from swine manure can be used as an alternative source of fuel, however further research is still warranted regarding regulation of CO and NOx emissions. Furthermore, the heavy metal content in ash was below the legal limits required for its usage as fertilizer.

폐타이어를 흡착제로 한 카드뮴 함유 폐수 처리 특성 (Adsorption Treatment Characteristics of Cadmium Ion Containing Wastewater Using Waste Tire as an Adsorbent)

  • Adsorption features of $Cd^{2+}$ on waste tire particles have been investigated for the purpose of enhanced wastes recycling along with the development of an economic process for wastewater treatment. The isoelectric point of waste tire particles was found to be ca. pH 7 and the adsorbed amount of $Cd^{2+}$ was increased with pH under experimental conditions. The variation of the adsorption behavior of $Cd^{2+}$ with pH was well explained by the change of the electrokinetic potential of waste tire particles according to the pH. Adsorption of $Cd^{2+}$ was observed to reach its equilibrium within 45 minutes after the adsorption started under experimental conditions and followed the Freundlich model well. Kinetic analysis showed that the adsorption reaction of $Cd^{2+}$ was second order and thermodynamic estimation substantiated the endothermic behavior of $Cd^{2+}$ adsorption. As the amount of adsorbent increased, more adsorption of $Cd^{2+}$ was accomplished and the adsorption capacity of adsorbent was found to be enhanced by its pre-treatment with NaOH. Also, the adsorption of adsorbate was promoted as the ionic strength of wastewater was increased.
