  • This study aims to investigate the formability of bipolar plates for fuel cell fabricated by vacuum die casting of ALDC 6. Cavity shape of mold is thin walled plate (size: $200mm{\times}200mm{\times}0.8mm$) with a serpentine channel (active area: $50mm{\times}50mm$). Before bipolar plate was made by HPDC, computational filling behavior and solidification was performed by MAGMA soft. The final mold design for location and direction of channel was determined by computational simulation. Also, according to injection speed conditions, simulation result was compared to actual die casting experimental result. When vacuum pressure, injection speed of low and high region is 350 mbar, 0.3 m/s and 2.5 m/s respectively, products had few casting defects. On the other hand, at the same as injection speed, without vacuum pressure, products had many casting defects between end of the channel and overflow.

  • Welding of structure produces welding residual stresses which influence buckling strength, brittle fracture strength and cold crack on the weld parts. Therefore, it is very important to accurately analyze the residual stress before welding in order to guarantee the safety of weldment. If the weld length is long enough compared to the thickness and the breadth of plate, thermal and mechanical behaviors in the middle portion of the plate are assumed to be uniform along the thickness direction(z-axis). Thus, the following conditions(so-called plane deformation) can be assumed for the plate except near its end;1) distributions of stress and strain are independent on the z-axis;2) plane normal to z-axis before deformation remains plane during and after deformation. In this paper, plane-deformation thermal elasto-plastic problem is formulated by being based on the finite element method. Moreover special regards and paid to the fact that material properties in elastic and plastic region are temperature-dependence. And the method to solve the plane-deformation thermal elasto-plastic problem is shown by using the incremental technique. From the results of analysis, the characterisics of distribution of welding residual stress and plastic strain with the production mechanism are clarified.

  • The development of hull curved plate forming automation system in ship production field begins from the need of stakeholders such as enterprise organization, who need the reduction of cost and time and improvement of productivity, and end users who work for this production process. Even though hull curved plate forming automation system has small scale, it is reasonable to consider the system as an interdisciplinary system, because the system includes all of hardware, software, human and information and has a specified objective to be performed. In this paper, introduction of 4 leading Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)methodologies is described and SysML(Systems Modeling Language), which is designed to analyze, specify, design, and verify complex systems, is introduced in order to support those methodologies. Especially, SysML is applied to system modeling of hull curved plate forming automation system and focused on. The structure diagrams and behavior diagrams based on operational context of the automation system are used to make system architecture. The performed application of SysML to the hull curved plate forming automation system shows an example of applying SysML to the development of other autonomous systems in ship production domain.

  • Rehabilitations of reinforced concrete(RC) structures using advanced fibre-reinfored plastic(FRP) composites has become very popular in last few years. Typical method of strengthening strategy using FRP composite is bonding the CFRP plate or sheet on the surface of existing concrete structures. Many researches, however, have shown that bonding FRP plate or sheet on the surface of concrete has tendancy to debond prematurely induced by stress concentrations at the end of the plate. In order for overcoming the premature failure, the filling-up method which places FRP-rod into the existing concrete sawing groove has been developed. Through filling-up test results, aims of this research is to investigate the efficiencies of the filling-up method and is to determine the availabilities of traditional flexural theories that has provided all over the world.

  • An experimental investigation of the effect of composite patching repair was conducted to characterize the fatigue crack growth behavior in thick A16061-T6 (6mm) panels with single bonded patch by fiber reinforced composite patch. Four patch lengths and no patch plate were examined. An analytical procedure, involving three-dimensional finite element method having three layers to model cracked aluminum plate, epoxy by adhesive and composite patch, is calculated the stress intensity factors. From the calculated stress intensity factors, the fatigue crack growth rates are obtained. At the single patching type, different fatigue crack growth ratios through the plate thickness were investigated by using the experimental and analytical results. The results demonstrated that there was a definite variation in fatigue life depending on the size of composite patch. While crack reached the patch end, retardation of crack growth was also revealed in the bonded repair.

  • This Study is to investigate the influence of weld residual stresses on the fatigue crack growth behaviors in pressure ves-sel reinforcement. In order to perform this study, the automatically welded specimens are prepared. The material is ASTM A516 grade 60 steel used in pressure vessel mainly. For pad-on-plate of skip welding continuous welding and PWHT specimen, fatigue crack initiation is generally initiat-ed at weld starting and end toe zone, and ruptured at weld starting toe zone, Fatigue life if pad-on-plate continuous speci-men is increased more than that of pad-on-plate skip fillet welding specimene about 85% under low load, about 20% under high load, and decreased than that of two-pad continuous welding specimen about 85%. In da/dN-$\Delta$ Κ curve under low load, pad-on-plate skip fillet welding specimen showed retardation on the initial crack, and the fatigue crack growth rate at the low region of $\Delta$Κ greater specimene E(3.8{\times}10^{-6}$mm/cycle). And the fatigue life of welding specimen was smaller than that of PWHT specimen.

  • Bonding composite materials to structural members for strengthening purpose has received a considerable attention in recent years. The major problem when using bonded FRP or steel plates to strengthen existing structures is the high interfacial stresses that may be built up near the plate ends which lead to premature failure of the structure. As a result, many researchers have developed several analytical methods to predict the interface performance of bonded repairs. In this paper, a numerical solution using finite - difference method is used to calculate the interfacial stress distribution in beams strengthened with FRP plate having a tapered ends with different thinning profiles. These latter, can significantly reduce the stress concentration. In the present theoretical analysis, the adherend shear deformations are taken into account by assuming a parabolic shear stress through the thickness of both beam and bonded plate. Numerical results from the present analysis are presented to demonstrate the advantages of use the tapers in design of strengthened beams.

  • The mechanism of transverse shrinkage for the butt joint weldig of plates is investigated in this paper. It was certified that the compressive plastic strain due to thermal expansion of materials during heating play an important role on the transverse shrinkage. It was also pointed out that the transverse shrinkage has to be treated with the samples of which the shapes are as close to real shapes of welded materials as possible, because the distribution of temperature and relative rigidity of materials during welding have great influence on the transverse shrinkage. The formulas for the calculation of transverse shrinkage were presented and the experiments were carried out in order to verify the formulas. the main results are as follows; 1. For the bead-on-plate welding, the transverse shrinkage in the begining parts of welding is the smallest, the end parts is next and the transverse shrinkage of mid section is the largest. 2. In bead-on-plate welding, the equations presented in this paper concerning transverse shrinkage coincide fairly well with the experimental values generally. 3. Transverse shrinkage increases generally as specific heat input per unit thickness increaes.

  • This study presents the kinematics of an intrinsic continuum robot actuated by pneumatic artificial muscles. The single section of a developed continuum robot consisted of three muscles in parallel. The contraction of each muscle according to applied air pressure produced spatial motions of a distal plate with respect to a base plate. Based on the bending behaviors of artificial muscles, the orientation and position of the end-effector of a continuum robot were formulated using a transformation matrix. The orientation and position was also determined for a single section of the distal plate. A Jacobian matrix relating the contraction rate or the pressure rate of the muscles to the velocity vector of the end-effector was calculated considering the assembled position of actuators between neighboring sections of the robot. Experimental results showed that the motions of the intrinsic continuum robot were accurately estimated by the proposed kinematics.
