The Avatar robot, which is one of the teleoperation robots, aims to enable users to feel the robot as a part of the body to intuitively and naturally perform various tasks. Considering the purpose of the avatar robot, an end-effector identical to a human hand is advantageous, but a robotic hand with human hand level performance has not yet been developed. In this paper we propose a new 3-finger robotic hand with human-avatar hand posture mapping algorithm which were integrated with TOCABI-AVATAR, one of the teleoperation system. Due to the flexible rolling contact joints and tendon driven mechanism applied to the finger, the finger could implement adaptive grasping and absorb the impact force caused by unexpected contacts. In addition, human-avatar hand mapping algorithm using five calibration hand postures propose to compensate physical differences between operators. Using the TOCABI-AVATAR system with the robotic hands and mapping algorithm, the operator can perform 13 out of 16 hand postures of grasping taxonomy and 4 gestures. In addition, using the system, we participated in the ANA AVATAR XPRIZE Semi-final and successfully performed three scenarios which including various social interactions as well as object manipulation.
In this paper, we propose a legged landing platform for the quadcopter taking off and landing in the ship environment. In the ship environment with waves and winds, the aircraft has risks being overturned by contact impact and excessive inclination during landing on the ship. This landing platform has four landing legs under the quadcopter for balancing and shock relief. In order to make the quadcopter balanced on ships, the position of each end effector was controlled by PID control. And shocks have mainly happened when quadcopter contacts the ship's surface as well as legs move fast. Hence, impedance control was used to cope with the shocks. The performance of the landing platform was demonstrated by a simulation and a prototype in three sea states based on a specific size of a ship. During landing and tracking the slope of the ship's surface, oscillations of rotation and translation from the shock were mitigated by the controller. As a result, it was verified that transient response and stability got better by adding impedance control in simulation models and prototype experiments.
Erwinia amylovora causes a devastating disease called fire blight in rosaceous trees and shrubs such as apple, pear, and raspberry. To successfully infect its hosts, the pathogen requires a set of clustered genes termed hrp. Studies on the hrp system of E. amylovora indicated that it consists of three functional classes of genes. Regulation genes including hrpS, hrpS, hrpXY, and hrpL produce proteins that control the expression of other genes in the cluster. Secretion genes, many of which named hrc, encode proteins that may form a transmembrane complex, which is devoted to type III protein secretion. Finally, several genes encode the proteins that are delivered by the protein secretion apparatus. They include harpins, DspE, and other potential effector proteins that may contribute to proliferation of E. amylovora inside the hosts. Harpins are glycine-rich heat-stable elicitors of the hypersensitive response, and induce systemic acquired resistance. The pathogenicity protein DseE is homologous and functionally similar to an avirulence protein of Pseudomonas syringae. The region encompassing the hrpldsp gene cluster of E. amylovora shows features characteristic of a genomic island : a cryptic recombinase/integrase gene and a tRNA gene are present at one end and genes corresponding to those of the Escherichia coli K-12 chromosome are found beyond the region. This island, designated the Hrp pathogenicity island, is more than 60 kilobases in size and carries as many as 60 genes.
In order to fully utilize the functions of the hand which is the end effector of the upper limb, other parts of the upper limb have to perform their own roles. Among them, the pronation and supination of the forearm, which allows the hand to rotate along the longitudinal direction of the forearm, play an important role in activities of daily living. In this paper, a soft wearable robot that assists the pronation and supination of the forearm for individuals with weakened or lost upper limb function is proposed. The wearable robot consists of an anchoring part with polymer (wrist strap, elbow strap), a tendon with a belt and wire, and an actuation module. It was developed based on the requirements with respect to friction of anchoring part, forearm compression, and friction of the tendon. It was confirmed that these requirements were satisfied through literature review and experiments. Since all components exist within the forearm when worn, it is expected to be easy to combine with the already developed soft wearable robots for the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.
This paper presents a novel stem-cutting device using a twisted string actuation system combined with the cinch bag-typed gripper proposed in previous research. The suggested cutting device was developed to cut the stem of a tomato using two motors. The relationship between contact time and motor angle was mathematically induced, and the contacting time was verified through the experiments. The contact time has decreased as the offset of each pair of strings at the disk increases. The contact time and its deviation were reduced by increasing the radius of the twisted string bundle, and the motor torque to exert an equivalent cutting force was surged at the same time. The proposed cutting mechanism with 16 strands of twisted string bundle and 40 mm of offset can cut the given tomato stems and stalks, exerting up to 132.4 N of cutting force in 4.6 to 6.5seconds.
In this paper, we propose calibration methods that can be applied to the markerless surgical robotic system for Intracerebral Hematoma (ICH) Surgery. This surgical robotic system does not require additional process of patient imaging but only uses CT images that are initially taken for a diagnosis purpose. Furthermore, the system applies markerless registration method other than using stereotactic frames. Thus, in overall, our system has many advantages when compared to other conventional ICH surgeries in that they are non-invasive, much less exposed to radiation exposure, and most importantly reduces a total operation time. In the paper, we specifically focus on the application of calibration methods and their verification which is one of the most critical factors that determine the accuracy of the system. We implemented three applications of calibration methods between the coordinates of robot's end-effector and the coordinates of 3D facial surface scanner, based on the hand-eye calibration method. Phantom tests were conducted to validate the feasibility and accuracy of our proposed calibration methods and the surgical robotic system.

In this paper, an image-based "approach-align -grasp" visual servo control design is proposed for the problem of object grasping, which is based on the binocular stand-alone system. The basic idea consists of considering a vision system as a specific sensor dedicated a task and included in a control servo loop, and we perform automatic grasping follows the classical approach of splitting the task into preparation and execution stages. During the execution stage, once the image-based control modeling is established, the control task can be performed automatically. The proposed visual servoing control scheme ensures the convergence of the image-features to desired trajectories by using the Jacobian matrix, which is proved by the Lyapunov stability theory. And we also stress the importance of projective invariant object/gripper alignment. The alignment between two solids in 3-D projective space can be represented with view-invariant, more precisely; it can be easily mapped into an image set-point without any knowledge about the camera parameters. The main feature of this method is that the accuracy associated with the task to be performed is not affected by discrepancies between the Euclidean setups at preparation and at task execution stages. Then according to the projective alignment, the set point can be computed. The robot gripper will move to the desired position with the image-based control law. In this paper we adopt a constant Jacobian online. Such method describe herein integrate vision system, robotics and automatic control to achieve its goal, it overcomes disadvantages of discrepancies between the different Euclidean setups and proposes control law in binocular-stand vision case. The experimental simulation shows that such image-based approach is effective in performing the precise alignment between the robot end-effector and the object.
For fast and accurate motion of 6-axis articulated robot, more noble motion control strategy is needed. In general, the movement strategy of industrial robots can be divided into two kinds, PTP (Point to Point) and CP (Continuous Path). Recently, industrial robots which should be co-worked with machine tools are increasingly needed for performing various jobs, as well as simple handling or welding. Therefore, in order to cope with high-speed handling of the cooperation of industrial robots with machine tools or other devices, CP should be implemented so as to reduce vibration and noise, as well as decreasing operation time. This paper will realize CP motion (especially joint-linear) blending in 3-dimensional space for a 6-axis articulated (lab-manufactured) robot (called as "RS2") by using LabVIEW$^{(R)}$ (6) programming, based on a parametric interpolation. Another small contribution of this paper is the proposal of motion blending simulation technique based on Recurdyn$^{(R)}$ V7 and Solidworks$^{(R)}$, in order to figure out whether the joint-linear blending motion can generate the stable motion of robot in the sense of velocity magnitude at the end-effector of robot or not. In order to evaluate the performance of joint-linear motion blending, simple PTP (i.e., linear-linear) is also physically implemented on RS2. The implementation results of joint-linear motion blending and PTP are compared in terms of vibration magnitude and travel time by using the vibration testing equipment of Medallion of Zonic$^{(R)}$. It can be confirmed verified that the vibration peak of joint-linear motion blending has been reduced to 1/10, compared to that of PTP.
This paper presents a new experimental Servo-Parameter tuning technique for a 6-axes articulated robot manipulator, especially considering robot's dynamics. First of all, investigation for proportional gain of velocity control loop by using a Dynamic Signal Analyzer(DSA) is performed. Using the FUNCTION characteristic of DSA based on the Bode plot, the Bode plot of open loop transfer function can be obtained. In turn, the integral gain of a servo controller can be found out by using the integration time constant extracted from the Bode plot of open loop transfer function. In the meanwhile, the positional gain of the servo controller can be obtained by using the Bode plot of the closed loop transfer function. Using the experimental gain tuning technique proposed in this paper, the testing linear motion of DR6-II robot has been shown to be more accurate rather than the motion with a conventional(empirical) gain tuning technique in Doosan Mecatec Co., Ltd., by improving the dynamic response of the robot as well as synchronizing each joint velocity according to the positional command of an end-effector.
