A Short Report on the Markov Property of DNA Sequences on 200-bp Genomic Units of ENCODE/Broad ChromHMM Annotations: A Computational Perspective

  • The non-coding DNA in eukaryotic genomes encodes a language which programs chromatin accessibility, transcription factor binding, and various other activities. The objective of this short report was to determine the impact of primary DNA sequence on the epigenomic landscape across 200-base pair genomic units by integrating nine publicly available ChromHMM Browser Extensible Data files of the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) project. The nucleotide frequency profiles of nine chromatin annotations with the units of 200 bp were analyzed and integrative Markov chains were built to detect the Markov properties of the DNA sequences in some of the active chromatin states of different ChromHMM regions. Our aim was to identify the possible relationship between DNA sequences and the newly built chromatin states based on the integrated ChromHMM datasets of different cells and tissue types.

  • Most countries have been focused on the CDM(Clean Development Mechanism). According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, CDM is an arrangement under the Kyoto Protocol allowing industrialized countries with a greenhouse gas reduction commitment to invest in projects that reduce emissions in developing countries as an alternative to more expensive emission reductions in their own countries. There are many environmental problems which resulted from development of IT field. The main objective of this paper is to find an effective methodology as an initial stage for applications of green IT in a real life. Therefore this paper addresses worldwide reviews on green IT products.

A Cultural Property Priority Assessment Using Information Measure Technique (정보계측기법을 이용한 문화재 중요도 평가방안)

  • In the evaluation of rural amenities, its properties are related with social, cultural, and environmental elements. In this study, Information Measure Model (IMM) and Cultural Property Priority Assessment Model (CPPAM) were developed adapting information measure model with text based surveying data. To apply developed model not only general properties but also specific surveyed data, Specific Information Gathering and Utilizing System (SIGUS) was constructed using the data in Dusan World encyclopedia. IMM shows priorities of cultural property by information in national-designated cultural properties. And CPPAM applied in surveying data in 2004 by Rural Resources Development Institute.

  • 백과사전 질의응답 시스템은 사용자의 자연어 질문과 검색 대상 문서인 백과사전 내용의 의미를 파악하기 위한 고정밀 자연어 처리 기술이 요구된다. 이러한 고정밀 자연어 처리 기술을 위한 중요한 언어자원을 제공하기 위하여 한국어 명사와 동사로 구성되는 대규모 어휘개념망을 구축하였다. 한국어 어휘개념망은 명사와 동사의 상하위 관계를 주요 계층구조로 하여 다양한 한국어 어휘 기초 자료를 바탕으로 구축되었다. 구축된 규모는 일반명사 약 6만 어휘와 동사 약 2만 어휘를 포함한다. 이 논문에서는 어휘개념망을 구축하기 위한 방법과 과정을 소개하고 지금까지 구축된 어휘개념망의 특성에 대해 기술하며, 백과사전 질의응답 시스템에서 어떻게 활용되는지 시스템 구성요소의 예를 들어서 설명한다. 또한 현재 구축된 어휘개념망의 성능 평가를 위해 일반 코퍼스에 대한 커버리지 측정 결과를 기술한다.

  • Imwongyeongjeji, Administration of Our Daily Life in Woods and Fields, is a sort of encyclopedia compiled by Seo, Yoo Goo in Joseon Dynasty in the 19th century. This voluminous work is made up of 16 chapters with various references including many articles dealing with architecture. The chapter Seomyongji covering the daily necessities contains a number of methods and materials of building construction. The distinctive feature of these articles is that they are mostly from Joseon's books. It is not similar to other chapters which are made of quotations from Chinese books. Especially, he quoted many of articles about architecture from his own work Geumhwagyeongdokgi, Record of Plowing and Reading in Geumhwa. In addition, He selected only empirical knowledge, put it in the book, and commented on it in his judgment. These articles provide valuable information on architectural knowledge in late Joseon period.

  • A decade-long project, led by several international research groups, called the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE), recently released an unprecedented amount of data. The ambitious project covers transcriptome, cistrome, epigenome, and interactome data from more than 1,600 sets of experiments in human. To make use of this valuable resource, it is important to understand the information it represents and the techniques that were used to generate these data. In this review, we introduce the data that ENCODE generated, summarize the observations from the data analysis, and revisit a computational approach that ENCODE used to predict gene expression, with a focus on the human transcriptome and its association with chromatin modifications.

A Methodological Shift in Building Design through Development of Collaborative Design Platforms

  • This paper introduces two platforms created by the development team at CORE studio, Thornton Tomasetti's global innovation studio. Collaborative platforms change the way that parties communicate and develop projects. Wikipedia is one of many great examples for a platform that supports collaborative development of a product - the world's largest encyclopedia. In the AEC industry, no such platform exists that can be used for collaborative development of a building project, and hence, information exchange between the parties involved, and modeling programs used in a project is slow and opaque. The platforms introduced in this paper allow for much greater transparency at all stages of the building design process, and hence improve the flow of information between parties involved in the process, both firm-internal and external. While traditionally, the use of a large number of different modeling and analysis platforms is hard to manage by a project team; this paper introduces methods that strengthen the design process by using a multitude of programs needed in the different building design phases.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve of retrieval effectiveness to clustered and filtered document through query expansion. The result of this research prove that extended queries and documents, information in encyclopedia, clustering and filtering techniques are effective to promote retrieval effectiveness.

  • 본 논문은 백과사전 QA에서 여러 문서에서 정답을 추출한 후 종합하여 답을 출력하여야 하는 질의를 위한 백과사전 사건 추적 시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템은 사건 관련 질문과 문서의 속성을 반영할 수 있는 템플릿을 정의하여 문서를 추적하며, 하나의 사건은 '제목' '시간', '장소' '주체', '범주'의 5가지 속성을 가진다. 이러한 방법론을 통하여 기존 QA 시스템의 정답 추출 성능 향상에 도움을 주고, 정보 구성(organizing)과 TDT(Topic Detection and Tracking) 연구에서의 새로운 관점과 방향을 제시하고자 한다.

  • 본 논문은 정답 색인 방법을 이용하여 응답 속도가 빠르고 정확한 백과사전 질의응답 시스템을 구현하는 방법을 제안한다. 논문에서 제안한 정답 색인 방법은 대상 문서에서 160여 개의 정답 유형 범주에 해당하는 정답 후보를 인식하고, 정답 후보와 색인 범주에 속하는 키워드를 색인단위로 정의하여 저장하였다. 특히 용언정보에 대해서는 LF(Logical Form)단위로 색인하여 색인 정확도를 높였다. 정답 랭킹에서는 사용자 질문에서 각 단어별로 문장 성분. 단어 가중치 정보 등을 이용하여, 필수단어를 산정하고 이를 정답랭킹의 방법으로 활용하였다. 이러한 방법론은 용언 정보를 활용해야 효과적인 백과사전이라는 문서 도메인의 특성을 반영하고, 빠른 질문 응답 시간을 보장하는 백과사전 질의응답 시스템에 적합하다.
