  • The objective of this study was to develop a computer measurement and control system which enable it possible to manage the natural air rough rice drying and storage properly and safely. The following contents of work were taken in this study in order to fulfill the above goal: 1) Design and construction of measurement system which can measure the rough rice drying conditions automatically and transfer them to computer system for data processing. 2) Development of a management software which can determine the need of fan operation by the analysis of drying and/or storage conditions. 3) Design and construction of a control system which deliver the computer decision of fan operation and make it on and off. 4) Technical and economical analysis of the computer measurement and control system development by the comparison experiments of the computer management and of the manual.

  • An integrated display software platform for small UAV is developed based on parallel processing technique in this paper. When the small UAV with high-performance camera and avionic modules is employed to various surveillance-related missions, it is important to reduce the operator's workload and increase the monitoring efficiency. For this purpose, it is needed to develop an efficient monitoring software enable to manipulate the image and flight data obtained during flight within the given processing time and display them simultaneously. In this paper, we set up requirements and suggest the architecture for the software platform. The integrated software platform is implemented with parallel processing scheme. Based on AR drone, we verified that the various data are concurrently displayed by the suggest software platform.

  • As new Information technology such as IoT develops rapidly, a lot of changes are occurred in our lives. The Internet of Things is the network of physical objects or things embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices. This change is also applied to tourism industry. These days many people make a tour reservation using the internet. But it is required to consider the efficiency and security of tour reservation system. In this paper, we suggest a tour reservation system. First, we describe the computer reservation system, hotel reservation system and reservation system. Second, we perform the modeling of general reservation system and suggested reservation system. Third, performance evaluation is carried out with respect to efficiency and security. The results show that the suggested reservation system has a better performance than a general reservation system. At last we described the results and future works.

Chemical Distributions of Carbon-Enhanced Metal-Poor (CEMP) Stars from the Baryon Oscillations Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS)

  • We present spatial and chemical distributions of Carbon-Enhanced Metal-Poor (CEMP) stars in the Milky Way's halo, as observed by the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). Although the BOSS was designed to obtain spectra of galaxies and quasars, it also observed numerous metal-poor main-sequence turnoff stars for the purpose of flux calibration. The stars observed in the BOSS are two magnitudes fainter (15.5 < g < 19.2) than those in the legacy SDSS, thus it is an extremely useful sample to probe the distant halo. Using effective temperatures, surface gravities, [Fe/H], and [C/Fe] derived for these stars by the SEGUE Stellar Parameter Pipeline (SSPP), we investigate the spatial distribution of [Fe/H] and [C/Fe], the distribution of [C/Fe], and frequency of CEMP stars among these stars. These tools enable characterization of the origin of the halo and its initial mass function.

  • Sample size determination is critical, but not easy to do. Sample size defined as the number of observations in a sample to be studied should be big enough to have a high likelihood of detecting a true difference between groups. Practical procedure for determining sample size, using $G^*$power and previous dental articles, was shown in this study. Examples involving independent t-test, paired t-test, one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA), and one-way repeated-measures(RM) ANOVA were used. The purpose of this study is to enable researchers with non-statistical backgrounds to use in practice freely available statistical software G*power to determine sample size and power.

  • It is the first time that there is a subject, advanced mathematics in the 2009 revised high school curriculum. Therefore it is posing a challenge to the teachers who are teaching it. At the advanced level, it is important for learners to reflect on their mental mathematical activities. This research analysed pre-service secondary teachers' reflective thinking in solving the tasks specific for the teaching and learning of polar coordinates. We report how and through what process mathematical tasks that can create disequilibrium for pre-service secondary teachers enable reflective thinking and expand preservice secondary teachers' thoughts and recognition of defining reflective thinking in looking back on one's problem solving and thinking processes.

Lighting Simulation using Relux (Relux를 이용한 조명 시뮬레이션)

  • Lighting simulation is becoming increasingly more important as a method for design and evaluation. There is a wide range of packages that provide the accuracy and the usability in lighting simulation. Relux developed by Relux Informatik AG, Switzerland, Relux offers users innovative and high-performance light planning software with open interfaces and simultaneous access to the latest product data from luminaire and lamp manufacturers. The goals of this report is to explore some of the lighting simulation issues relating to Relux. It is hoped that it will provide some background information that will enable a designer and engineer to make some informed judgements on the potential of the current state-of-the-art in computer prediction of lighting in buildings and how this may be used to assist in building design.

  • Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) modular converters consisting of multiple modular DC/DC converters can enable low voltage rating switches for use in high voltage input applications. In this paper, an input voltage sharing control strategy for input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) full-bridge (FB) DC/DC converters is proposed. By sensing the difference in the input current of two modules, the system can achieve input voltage sharing for DC-DC modules. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by simulation and experimental results obtained with a 200w-50kHz prototype.

User Research Method for Service Design: From Conceptual Knowledge To Design Knowledge

  • Objective: We propose empathy as a user research method for service design. Background: We argue that empathy will enable user researchers to go beyond the conceptual knowledge to the design knowledge of user experience. Method: We tested our hypothesis by conducting an experiment in which subjects were required to propose solutions to improve the experience of a family member of a patient hospitalized in an emergency department. Results: We found that the subjects who empathized with the family member of a patient tended to suggest the solutions based on design knowledge rather than the solutions based on conceptual knowledge compared to the subjects who did not empathize. Conclusion: Data support our hypothesis that empathy enables people to focus on design knowledge rather than conceptual knowledge. Application: These findings provide practical implications for user researchers in service design.
