Multiple-end-point Bioassays Using Microorganisms

  • Since the 1950s, the numbers of species and chemicals produced have significantly increased. Despite the fact that industrial chemicals have given us numerous benefits, there is no doubt that they have damaged the environment. The chemicals being dispersed on the earth should be carefully controlled to prevent adverse effects. Bioassay is one of the methods to assess chemical safety. In bioassay systems, chemical safety is estimated by monitoring biological responses to environmental pollutants and newly synthesized chemicals. This report introduces multiple-point bioassay systems that are based on chemical sensitivities of microorganisms, responses of one kind of organism, and micro-array technology. Multiple-end-point bioassays enable the prediction of chemicals in the environment and the understanding of toxicities of newly synthesized chemicals.

  • R is a free software for statical computing and graphics. It compiles and runs not only on UNIX platforms but MS Windows. The R commands are easy and offer interactive help. R is used in extensive field by implementing packages. RSEIS, the package of R, enable us to do easy graphic process of seismic data. Here we illustrate an example of the seismic data process using RSEIS.

  • This paper deals with the analysis of switched reluctance motor drives for different drive circuit topologies used in automobile. So we attempt to improve the weaknesses associated with the asymmetric bridge converter in the limited internal environment of automotive application. Two kinds of c-dump converters are tested in terms of dump capacitor voltage, speed response according to the variation of advance angle and efficiency for the radiator cooling-fan drive of an automobile. They enable more economical and efficient converter topology for automobile industries. This paper describes the performance characteristics of 12V-250W-3000rpm SRM drives for automotive application. Computer simulation and experiment results are then presented to verify the performance of the two kinds of c-dump converters.

  • 본문의 내용은 영구자석을 사용한 단상 브러시리스 모타의 구동을 위한 H-Brdige 구동회로에 적용된 전류제어 회로에 관한 실험결과이다. 부하전류가 목표치 이상인 경우 enable 를 차단하면 순간적으로 센서저항의 전위가 0 으로 되고 이로인해 다시 순간적으로 스위칭이 이루어 지므로 매우 빠른 주기로 스위칭을 반복한다. 이 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 래칭회로를 필요로 하는데, 본 제안에서는 두 개의 NAND GATE 와 하나의 NOT GATE, 그리고 RC network 를 조합하여 LIP-FLOP 과 시지연을 이루는 방법을 실현하였다. 이와 같은 전류제어회로는 constant off time 의 특성을 가지는데, 일반적으로 사용되는 PWM 제어회로에 비하여 매우 단순하면서도, 저항부하 및 모타부하에 대해 공히 능동적으로 작동함을 입증하고 있다. 본문에서는 제안된 전류제한회로의 구조와 H-bridge 구동모드, 그리고 전기적 특성에 대한 연구결과를 설명한다.

  • Early detection of a disease is important to tackle treatment issues in a better manner. Several diagnostic techniques are in use, these days; for such purpose and tremendous research is going on to develop newer and newer methods. However, more work is required to be done to develop cheap and reliable early detection techniques. Micro-fluidic chips are also playing key role to deliver new devices for better health care. The present study focuses on a review of recent developments in the interrogation of different techniques and present state-of-the-art of microfluidic sensor for better, quick, easy, rapid, early, inexpensive and portable POCT (Point of Care testing device) device for a particular study, in this case, bone disease called osteoporosis. Some simulations of the microchip are also made to enable feasibility of the development of a blood-chip-based system. The proposed device will assist in early detection of diseases in an effective and successful manner.

  • Recently, computer technique for the analysis of slope stability enable to reduce a considerable time and efforts. And also, stability problems can be approached by using stablility chart which was basically developed to handle the problems under simple conditions only. Most of the conventional slope stability computer programs and stability chart are still based on the general limit equilibrium method. 16 types of sample slopes and 2 types of failure slope were compared and analysed by stability charts and programs. This research work intend to apply 4 types of conventional computer programs based on the same theoretical backgroung and 7 types of stability charts for solving the same stability problems and the results and compared and analysed in order to justify their reliability.

  • The improved accuracy of the Land Cover/Land Use Map constructed using Hyperspectal Satellite Image and the possibility of real time classification of Land Use using optimal Band Selective Factor enable the change detection from automatic classification using the existed Land Cover/Land Use Map and the newly acquired Hyperspectral Satellite Image. In this study, the effective analysis techniques for automatic generation of training regions, automatic classification and automatic change detection are proposed to minimize the expert's interpretation for automatic update of the Land Cover/Land Use Map. The proposed algorithms performed successfully the automatic Land Cover/Land Use Map construction, automatic change detection and automatic update on the image which contained the changed region. It would increase applicability in actual services. Also, it would be expected to present the effective methods of constructing national land monitoring system.

AGV Navigation Using a Space and Time Sensor Fusion of an Active Camera

  • This paper proposes a sensor-fusion technique where rho data sets for the previous moments are properly transformed and fused into the current data sets to enable accurate measurement, such as, distance to an obstacle and location of the service robot itself. In the conventional fusion schemes, the measurement is dependent only on the current data sets. As the results, more of sensors are required to measure a certain physical promoter or to improve the accuracy of the measurement. However, in this approach, intend of adding more sensors to the system, the temporal sequence of the data sets are stored and utilized for the measurement improvement. Theoretical basis is illustrated by examples md the effectiveness is proved through the simulation. Finally, the new space and time sensor fusion (STSF) scheme is applied to the control of a mobile robot in the indoor environment and the performance was demonstrated by the real experiments.

  • In this paper, there have been brief review about the important consideration in laboratory planning and designing 4.2MV impulse voltage generator(IVG), which enable to test and evaluate the UHV dielectric performance of power electric apparatus up to 765kV-class. To improve and reinforce the test ability of the IVG and itself against test object being tested by KERI hereafter, wide investigation and an analysis for a solution, especially overshoot compensation method. With the special consideration about those matters in settling down the 4.2MV IVG have been described with the experimental approaching.

  • The important consideration in laboratory designing and construction of the artificial pollution testing facilities including 300kV, 1800kVA AC test system, which enable to test and evaluate the UHV dielectric performance of power insulators up to transmission class, has been dealt in this paper. To evaluate the performance characteristics against contamination for various power installation, especially for the insulators and kinds of bushings, brief investigation and an analysis of test objects and related international codes and standards have been conducted. With the special consideration concerning other matters in designing of these testing facilities have been described with the fixed ratings and references.
