Influence of a Co-op Program on Participants' Academic Performance, Employment and Job Performance: Focusing on the Case of KOREATECH

  • KOREATECH has operated a Co-op program called 'Industry Professional Practice (IPP)' that allows students to work full-time in relevant industries for at least four months since 2012, and also developed a systematic performance evaluation model on the basis of Kirkpatrick's four-stage assessment model. This study aims to share KOREATECH's Levels 3 and 4 evaluation results which are clearly what practitioners and academic investigators of cooperative education want to know the most. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted for KOREATECH graduates and their superiors to examine influence of IPP experiences on employment and job performance. A total of 730 alumni who graduated within last 5 years participated in the survey, with 213 (29.2%) having IPP experiences, and 162 superiors rated their subordinates on seven performance criteria. The analysis results were mixed. On the one hand, employment rate of IPP participants was 89.7%, compared to 86.8% of alumni without field experiences. Participants of the IPP program were more satisfied with their salary and felt less unfair about their career and promotion opportunities than alumni without field experiences. On the other, superiors rated their subordinates without IPP experiences slightly more positively than IPP participants in terms of job performance. These contrasting results are judged to show strengths and weaknesses of the IPP program at the same time. The limitations of the study and future research directions are discussed at the last part.

대학생의 공무원시험 준비가 취업, 보수, 직업만족도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of College Students' Preparing for Government Official Recruitment Exams)

  • 본 연구에서는 대학생의 공무원시험 준비가 그들의 취업 및 직장 생활에 미치는 영향을 분석했다. 이를 위해 한국고용정보원의 대졸자 직업이동 경로조사(Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey: GOMS) 자료를 사용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. (1) 대학생의 공무원시험 준비는 대학재학기간을 다소 연장시킨다. (2) 대학생의 공무원시험 준비는 취업을 지연시키는 효과를 갖는다. (3) 민간기업 취업자만을 대상으로 할 때, 공무원시험 준비 경험은 보수에 다소 불리한 영향을 미친다. (4) 공무원시험 준비를 하다가 민간기업에 취업한 경우는 공공부문에 취업한 경우 및 처음부터 공무원시험 준비를 하지 않고 민간기업에 취업한 경우에 비하여 직업만족도가 낮다. 이와 같은 본 연구의 결과는, 기본적으로 대학생들의 공무원시험 준비에 대해 주변에서 갖는 일반적인 우려와 부합한다. 그러나 그 크기에 있어서는 일반적으로 염려하는 것보다는 작음을 보여 준다.

해운산업 여성인력의 고용저해요인, 개인능력 및 성차별 인식 분석과 성차별이 직무성과에 미치는 영향 (Recognition of the Threat of Employment, Individual Abilities and Gender Discrimination against Female Workers and the Effect on Job Performance in Korean Shipping Industry)

  • 본 논문은 우리 나라 해운 기업에 있어서 여성인력활용의 저해요인과 개인능력, 성차별에 대한 인식을 조사함으로써, 여성인력의 중요성과 특수성을 검토하고 해운산업 내 여성인력 활용실태와 성차별을 진단하기 위한 것이다. 즉, 해운산업에 있어서의 여성인력의 활용과 그 저해요인, 개인능력 및 성차별에 대한 인식차이를 분석함으로써, 해운기업들의 여성 인적자원관리상의 문제점과 그 해결방안을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 결론적으로 우리 나라 해운기업들의 인식에 있어서, 실증조사결과, 우리 나라 해운기업들의 인식에 있어서, 여성인력활용의 고용저해요인과 개인능력 및 성차별정도에 대해 남녀간에 통계적으로 유의적인 인식의 차이가 있었다. 그리고 여성인력의 성차별은 직무성과에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 실증분석 되었다. 즉 해운 산업특유의 여성인력활용에 대한 배타적 인식의 수정이 시급히 요구되는 결과를 보이고 있다.

제 6기(2013-2015) 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용한 19-39세 한국 성인의 취업과 치주질환 관계 (The relationship between periodontal disease prevalence and occupation among Korean adults aged 19-39 according to the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to confirm the relationship between socioeconomic characteristics and the prevalence of periodontal disease, with a focus on employment status, in a representative sample of Korean adults aged 19-39 years. Methods: Data were obtained from 3,178 adults who completed the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, health-related questionnaires, and an oral examination. Socioeconomic, demographic, and oral health-related behavior data were adopted as independent variables. The chi-square test was used to assess differences in the distribution of socioeconomic status, oral health behavior, and nutrition factors according to employment status. Logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the relationships between the prevalence of periodontitis and the related variables. Results: Significant differences in sex, educational level, income, marital status, smoking status, prevalence of periodontitis, number of dental check-ups in a year, and unmet dental care were confirmed according to employment status. The prevalence of periodontal disease was not significantly related to employment status. Conclusions: These results suggest a significant difference in periodontal disease according to socioeconomic factors in Korean adults. However, the prevalence of periodontal disease was not related to employment status. To prevent the progression of periodontal disease, attention should be paid to oral health, time available for dental treatment, smoking cessation, and use of floss.

보건계열 대학생의 취업의식에 관한 실태조사 (A Survey of the Actual Condition for Consciousness of Employment in College Students of Health Science)

  • 지식기반사회로의 변화와 더불어 무한경쟁 시대에 살아가면서 사회로 진출하는 대학생들의 취업전쟁은 자신의 미래에 대한 불안으로 작용하면서 대학생의 취업은 가장 큰 사회 문제의 하나로 대두되고 있다. 보건계열학과 3학년 학생들 대상으로 취업률 향상 방안으로는 학과교수는 취업관련 정보제공자로서 취업면담을 강화하고, 대학은 다양한 지역의 취업지도를 위한 출장 장려 등의 구체적인 대학 측 지원 계획과 시행이 요구된다. 또한 질적 향상을 위한 노력으로 대학 측은 취업중심 교육과정 개발과 학생의 기본적인 취업 준비를 위한 지원, 지도교수는 취업관련 정보제공 및 취업 전문 안내자가 되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

The Development of Subject Gateway and Library Operating Model for the Diffusion of Entrepreneurship ― Focus on Job and Employment Services

  • High unemployment rates repeatedly cause recurring social problems such as fewer employment opportunities and employment insecurity. Following this trend, various programs related to employment have been provided through various government and institutions. However, they have established overlapping policies and programs and there is no one stop gateway to find effective and efficient way to find relevant information. For this purpose, this study aims to provide employment and job search subject gateway development. The study has carried out case studies, literature reviews, and user survey. Based on this study, it suggested a linked metadata model to organize and link scattered information together, and a digital gateway operating diverse information services. It is expected to provide a basis to develop comprehensive information service model for employment.

ATYPICAL EMPLOYMENT IN TAIWAN'S CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

  • Responding to the fierce market competition and trying to cut personnel costs, the construction industry in Taiwan is adopting atypical employment in human resource. To discover this trend, this study employed a questionnaire survey to investigate the current use of atypical employment by domestic contractors and its possible impacts on the industry. According to the 103 returned valid questionnaires, 40.8% of the respondent contractors have applied some atypical employment types in recent three years and most of them used fixed-term employment. The major reasons the contractors used atypical employees are to reduce personnel costs, to deal with business fluctuations and to streamline personnel. According to the respondents, there is no significant difference between the advantages and disadvantages of using a large number of atypical employees in the short term. However, in the long term, atypical employment is generally more disadvantageous than advantageous.

전문대학 간호과 여대생의 취업스트레스에 미치는 영향 요인 (Factors Affecting Employment Stress Among College Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate factors associated with employment stress and the relationships among employment stress, depression, and body mass index (BMI) among college nursing students. Methods: Subjects included 319 students at two colleges in Kyonggi and Chungbuk province, who were asked to complete a survey questionnaire. T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were used for statistical analysis of data. Results: Results of this study showed an average value of 53.39 for the total employment stress scale, and both values for familial environmental stress and school environmental stress were relatively higher among subscales of employment stress. The average score on the depression scale was 10.18 indicating slightly high, and BMI was 20.35 with an obesity fraction of 12.3%. In addition, the results also indicated that they suffered from much stronger employment stress according to their severity of depression. Overall factors that affect employment stress included depression, age, economic status, and whether family members live together or not. However, BMI had no significant statistical effect on employment stress. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that it is necessary for students to measure and control their employment stress and depression, because employment stress is closely associated with depression.

지적장애학생의 취업 및 고용 유지를 위한 주요기술 관련 특수교사 인식 (The Special School Teachers' Perception of the Significant Skills Required by Students with Intellectual Disabilities for Gaining and Maintaining Employment)

  • 본 연구는 지적장애 학생들의 취업 및 고용 유지를 위하여 필요한 기술들에 관한 지적장애 특수학교 교사들의 인식을 알아보기 위하여 설문조사와 심층면담을 실시하였다. 먼저 지적장애아교육 교사들을 대상으로 취업 및 고용유지를 위한 일상생활기술, 개인-사회적기술, 직업기술에 관한 인식을 알아보기 위한 설문조사를 실시하고, 양적 연구의 한계를 보완하기 위하여, 지적장애 학생들의 성공적인 취업 및 고용을 유지하기 위한 기술과 관련하여 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과에 따르면, 지적장애 학생들이 직업을 가지는 것이 성공적인 성인생활을 유지하기 위해 중요하다고 인식하고 있음에도 불구하고, 많은 지적장애학생들이 고용을 지속적으로 유지하지 못하는 경우가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 지적장애학생들의 취업 후 지속적인 고용 유지를 방해하는 많은 요인들이 있기 때문이다. 양적연구의 결과에 따르면, 취업 및 고용을 유지하기 위해서는 일상생활기술, 직업기술, 개인-사회적 기술이 모두 중요하지만, 학생들의 개인-사회적기술이 무엇보다 중요하다고 인식하고 있었으며, 이를 위한 교육에 많은 노력을 기울이는 것으로 나타났다. 질적 연구의 결과에서도, 지적장애를 가진 학생들이 성공적으로 취업을 하고, 고용을 지속적으로 유지하기 위해서는 직업 기술보다는 학생들의 성실성, 착한 인성, 사회성기술, 지시따르기 등의 태도 등이 더욱 중요하다고 인식하고 있고, 이를 교수하기 위해 노력하는 것으로 나타났다.

공학계열 남녀 졸업생의 조사를 통해 본 교과과정 내의 활동의 취업 기여 (Contribution of Curricula and Extra-Curricular Activities on Successful Employment Derived from an Engineering Graduates Survey)

  • This study investigated various attributes that contributed to successful employment in order to develop employment support programs, especially for female engineering students. We surveyed engineering students who graduated between 2006 and 2011. The 401 employed graduates participated in an online survey. The surveys inquired about their attachment towards their major, participation in various academic and non-academic activities, and their participation's contribution to their successful employment. In regards to their majors, women, in general, had lower levels of satisfaction, confidence, attachment, and motivation to succeed in their fields when compared to their male counterparts. These results show that engineering colleges still need to work on empowering female engineering students to gain confidence in their engineering major and attachment. The graduate school experience was highly rated by both men and women, whereas double majors exhibited somewhat lower scores. Among academic activities, part-time work experience and major-related internships were rated as the most helpful, and among extracurricular activities, study-abroad for language training and participation in student council or clubs received high scores. There was little difference between men and women in study-abroad participation, and women participated more actively in student councils. However, women had much less major-related work experience, reaffirming that colleges need to expand internship and field experience programs for female students.
