  • Knowing the number of unit roots is important in the analysis of k-dimensional multivariate autoregressive process. In this paper we suggest simple multiple unit roots test statistics based on least squares estimator for the multivariate AR(1) process in which some eigenvalues are one and the rest are less than one in magnitude. The empirical distributions are tabulated for suggested test statistics. We have small Monte-Calro studies to compare the powers of the test statistics suggested by Johansen(1988) and in this paper.

  • This paper is a study to analyze when ISV(independent software company) has more active participation in the platform ecosystem. According to previous studies, companies are active in technological innovation when they can appropriate the outcome of innovation and when they have complementary assets (marketing, manufacturing capabilities, etc.) that can convert the innovation into value. The effect of these two conditions to join platform ecosystem is investigated. The duplication between the ISV's product portfolio and platform service is also included as an independent variable. The two sample groups are composed of independent SW companies that signed a partner agreement with platform companies and non-participating companies in the platform. As a result of empirical study, it is found that the patent rights do not affect participation in the platform. The ISVs might have believed that the benefits from cooperation with platform companies are greater than the risks of exposure to innovative technologies and unique Biz models. On the other hand, downstream's capability and the duplication of product portfolio affect participation in the platform. If ISVs have the downstream capability to transform cooperation into value creation, ISVs are actively participating in the platform. In addition, cooperation is active when the product portfolio is complementary to platform service rather than competition. This study is the empirical study of open innovation between Korean independent software companies and digital platform companies. There are similar prior studies abroad, but there are no similar studies in Korea. It is meaningful in that the determinants of platform ecosystem participation were investigated through empirical analysis by composing a sample group of companies participating in the platform ecosystem and companies not participating in the platform ecosystem.

  • This paper argues that nursing theories ideosyncratic to situations should be developed through research, if nursing practice is to be effective in achieving the objective of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health of clients / patients. After reviewing (1) the interactive relationship between the theory and research, (2) the type and sequence of research for theory- building, (3) the hierarchy of theories, and (4) congruence between the type of theory and research approach, it suggests (1) that more exploratory studies (research) should be undertaken as a way to develop descriptive theories that may lead to new hypotheses, (2) that more empirical studies should also be undertaken to test if new hypotheses generated from exploratory studies may be useful in the setting of nuring practice, (3) that more studies should be undertaken to develop useful measures of nursing concepts, and (4) that more replicated studies should be undertaken in order to give rise to the external validity of new theories. It also discusses the ethical considerations of nursing research in the future.

  • Purpose - This study addresses an acquisition's impact on a firm's strategic relationship based on findings of existing academic studies and theoretical assertions. Through examining existing research results and theoretical grounds for an acquisition's impact on various stakeholders, this study indirectly approaches the impact on stakeholders including alliance partners. Research design, data, and methodology - This research identified a variety of related theoretical foundations and empirical studies. Research objectives of prior studies mainly focused on merging firms and direct participants of acquisition activity. In addition, academic attention on the impact on rival firms has recently been growing. However, little research on alliance partners was found. Prior studies simultaneously employed event study methodology and cross-sectional analysis to make further theoretical contributions. Results and Conclusions - Based on the findings of prior studies, this research proposed a complementary research model for future academic inquiry into the impact of an acquisition on an alliance partner's return and for predicting an acquisition announcement's effect on alliance partners.

  • Area Studies, by definition, conjure ideas of emplaced knowledge; in-depth interdisciplinary understanding of language, history, culture and politics of a nation or region. Where detractors might see this approach as overly empirical, therefore precluding theoretical sophistication, others argue that "places" are either artificially constructed, or that processes of globalisation have obliterated the cultural zone. But what if we turn an ethnographic eye to those very processes and technologies themselves? Can Area Studies take to the air, and if so, what are the attendant challenges and benefits? Based on insights from ethnography amongst airline customer service workers, ground and cabin crews in Thailand and Myanmar, this research examines the airline cabin as a field for ethnographic study, and as an emplaced site for political and cultural processes. With participant observation-based knowledge of Southeast Asian cabin crews, this paper examines the 1990 hijack of Thai Airways TG 305 from an emplaced cultural perspective.

  • This study reviewed the change of theory of ecological niche(concepts and definitions) over time to provide a theoretical basis for habitat-related studies of animals and plants. Accordingly, it analyzed and summarized the major discussion trends of ecological niche worldwide in each period from the 1900s to the present. Countries advanced in ecological studies, such as the EU and the USA, have conducted theoretical and empirical studies on the ecological niche since the early 1990s. The concept of the ecological niche was introduced in the early 1900s, developed in the mid-1900s, and advanced from the mid-1900s to the late 1900s. Since the 2000s, the advanced concept has diversified with new developments in technologies and research methods. The factors suggested by theoretical and empirical studies in defining the ecological niche of a species include 1) population dynamics of the target species, 2) all biotic conditions to sustain a population (food relationship and material flow in the food chain), 3) all non-biotic conditions to sustain a population (physical environmental conditions), 4) all direct and indirect interactions between these environmental factors, and 5) response and adaptation mechanisms that include the migratory ability of the target species or genetic diversity and adaptability to change. Unlike such international advancement, there have not been sufficient theoretical, philosophical, and empirical studies of ecological niche in Korea. The concepts and definitions by Greennell, Elton, and Hutchinson were selectively and partially borrowed for empirical studies without full description. Considering that the theory of ecological niche becomes the foundation for habitat-based species conservation and restoration, it is necessary to seek diversification and advancement of theoretical and empirical research and research methods and technological development. It will provide an important foundation for the academic advancement of ecology and for establishing and implementing policies to preserve and restore ecology and biodiversity effectively and successfully in Korea.

  • Since the industrialization in the 1960s, Korea has been expanding its transportation infrastructure, such as building bridges. Owing to bridge construction, studies on stability review have been carried out, and stability-securing technology has been developed. On the other hand, these were applied mainly to the upper part of the bridge, so applications to the lower part are limited. In particular, scour at the bridge pier causes erosion in the riverbed and bridge collapse. Hence, prevention studies and countermeasures are needed. In this study, an empirical formula was developed to evaluate the scour depth of a bridge, which was calculated through multiple linear regression analysis using the hydraulic model study data conducted in previous studies. The formula, which had a value of 0.91, was applied to the model test data that was not used for development to verify the developed formula. When the pier scour depths were compared in 23 cases, the error rate was less than 20% in 16 cases (70%). The empirical formula developed in this study is applicable to pier scour-depth calculations. Further research will be needed to develop a more accurate empirical formula for pier scour-depth calculations, and it is expected to reduce bridge damage caused by scour.

  • The study was conducted to develop an implementation model for digital transformation (DX) of manufacturing companies. To this end, previous studies on the process of management innovation and digital transformation were reviewed. The DX process model was derived based on the NEBIC theory and innovation theory applied in the innovation process of the Internet business. In addition, a research model including the factors of the will of the top management class (TMT) was constructed and confirmed through empirical data. The research hypothesis were verified based on data collected from members of mid-sized manufacturing companies promoting digital transformation. Through regression analysis, the influence relationship of each stage of the research model (technical knowledge, TK → opportunity perception, OR → performace expectation, PE and → Intention to execute, IE) was confirmed. Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to understand the mediating effect of the members' perception of the top management's willingness to promote DX in the process. As a result of checking the Sobel test, it was confirmed that the management's perception of DX promotion partially mediated the relationship at each stage. This study is meaningful in that it presented a model applicable to the digital transformation of the mid-sized manufacturing industry. It is also valuable in providing an empirical basis for innovative research and NEBIC expansion. Longitudinal studies are required to overcome the limitations of empirical data for process models with dynamic characteristics whereas extended empirical studies are required in various fields other than manufacturing to generalize research results.
