  • This study was conducted to identify the factors that influence students' disability acceptance attitudes in elementary schools in face of integrated education becoming common. For this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 472 students, from fourth to sixth grade, in three elementary schools in Jeollanam-do; furthermore a regression analysis was conducted using SPSS 23.0. The survey demonstrated that gender and grade did not have a significant effect on disability acceptance attitudes. Whereas empathy abilities, contact and knowledge of children with disabilities, respectively, influenced disability acceptance attitudes. Consequently, improving students' ability to empathize with others is more important than simply providing knowledge in itself. Thus, there is a need for the implementation of programs and education geared toward promoting empathy. Moreover, contact was found to have a negative impact on disability acceptance attitudes, suggesting the need to promote more positive disability-related experiences to elementary school students.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing nursing students' intentions to report child abuse. Methods: The participants of this study were 151 nursing students who were currently enrolled in nursing departments in Korea and who were at least 18 years of age or older. This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design, and the data were collected from February 16, to March 13, 2023, using an online self-administered survey. The questionnaire included general characteristics, empathy ability, child rights recognition, child abuse perception, and intention to report child abuse. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS Statistics 29.0. Results: The intention to report child abuse showed statistically significant positive correlations with empathy ability (r=.23, p<.001), child rights recognition (r=.34, p<.001), and child abuse perception (r=.63, p<.001). In the multiple regression analysis, the factors significantly related to nursing students' intention to report child abuse were as follows: awareness of mandatory reporting (yes) (β=.16, p=.021) and child abuse perception (β=.56, p<.001). The explanatory power of these factors was 45.0% (F=20.03, p<.001). Conclusion: Considering the findings of this study, it is necessary to develop and implement educational programs for improving the perception of child abuse and thus enhancing nursing students' intention to report child abuse.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze what constitutes the sympathetic component of nurses care of dementia patients. For this study, 219 nurses in nursing dementia patients were treated in nursing hospitals. Using the Empathy Consensus Rating Scale (ECRS), basic model extraction, model modification, and model suitability verification were performed through factor structure search and confirmation factor analysis (CFA). The results of this study confirmed the validity and reliability of the constituents with 49 questions, including 3 factors including the acceptance of other emotions, the suppression of one's own emotions, and the exchange and interaction of emotions. According to these results, it is expected that the ECRS that can secure validity and reliability can be used for the study to confirm the nurse's Empathy in the dementia patients' nursing field.

Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. Results of this study are summarized as follows 1. Pediatric nurses perceived their empathic ability to be moderately high (Mn=3.71). The level of perceived empathic ability of the pediatric nurses showed no significance by general characteristics. 2. The mothers of hospitalized children perceived nurses' empathic ability to be moderate(Mn=3.27). • Using Kohut's selfobject perspective as a foundation, this qualitative study explored the empathy with music and analyzed the empirical meanings in relation to 'Mirroring selfobject need', 'Idealized selfobject need', and 'Twinship selfobject need'. The participants included 13 music therapy graduate students who took part in individual interviews about their musical experiences. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed via content analysis. As a result, seven categories with 16 meaningful concepts emerged under three dimensions: Gratification of selfobject need for mirroring, gratification of selfobject need for idealization, and gratification of selfobject need for twinship. Participants described experiencing unconditional understanding and acceptance from music, feeling stronger and safer in music, and being identified with and connected to music. These findings suggest that participants continuously gratify their selfobject needs by expanding the self and empathizing themselves through music. This study in significant in that it is the first qualitative study to analyze participants' musical experiences from Kohut's selfobject perspective.

Most research on Hofstede's cultural dimensions were examined at national levels. However, in this study, Yoo's Cultural value Scale (CVSCALE) was used to analyze collectivistic tendencies at individual levels and its influence on volunteerism. A total of 200 self-administering online surveys was distributed to MNE employees in Singapore for three weeks period. 180 usable surveys were collected and analyzed with SPSS 21.0. Research outcomes indicated collectivism positively influenced volunteerism in Singaporeans with empathy as possible antecedent of volunteerism. In conclusion and application, the significance of this research lies in indicating collectivism's positive impact on volunteerism and empathy as possible antecedents of volunteerism in Singaporeans even though Singapore has exhibited stronger individualism and often defined as one of the most westernized country in the Asian continent. Also findings suggest further developing emotional education to increase both individual and group level performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore directions for achieving therapeutic and social well-being effects through intercultural citizenship education in language classrooms. To accomplish this, we first clarified the concepts of education as healing, social well-being, and intercultural citizenship education. Subsequently, through the analysis of reflective journals on the writing and peer review processes written by university students, we discovered manifestations of key concepts of intercultural citizenship, such as empathy, recognition, connection, discovery of new knowledge, and attitude change. Based on these insights, we proposed the perspective that addressing the concept of intercultural citizenship in Korean language education can be beneficial for language education as a form of healing and for social well-being. Furthermore, we suggested that future language education should evolve from instruction focused on the interpretation of symbols and functional proficiency to practices that empower learners as members of global society, allowing them to assign value to their lives and build healthy relationships with others.
