The longitudinal effects of children's temperament on maternal depression: A hierarchical linear modeling approach

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the longitudinal effects of children's temperament on maternal depression. Methods: Data from a longitudinal cohort of the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) from 2010 to 2012 were analyzed using hierarchical linear modeling. The survey included 1,721 mother-child dyads. The mothers reported on their children's temperament and on maternal depression. The children's temperament was measured by the Emotionality, Activity and Sociability-Temperament Survey for Children-Parental Ratings, while maternal depression was measured by the Kessler 6 Psychological Distress Scale. Results: The results showed that both children's temperament and maternal depression were relatively stable when the children were between the ages of 2 to 4. The mean maternal depression scores were 11.83 in 2010, 11.88 in 2011, and 11.75 in 2012. There were significant negative correlations between the maternal depression scores and children's ages, and sociability and activity subdomain scores ranged from r=-.05 to -.11 (p<.05). There was a significant positive correlation between children's emotionality subdomain scores and maternal depression scores (r=.35, p<.001). Children's temperament rament (emotionality: β=0.26, activity: β=-0.07, and sociability: β=-0.03) were significant factors in maternal depression. Conclusion: These findings indicate the need for the early assessment of and intervention for children's temperament and maternal depression. The results of this study will provide basic data for the development of nursing education programs related to early assessment and intervention to improve the health and quality of life of young children and mothers.

  • Objective: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of preschooler temperament and maternal postnatal depression, depression, and parenting stress on preschooler externalizing problem behavior. Methods: The participants consisted of 98 preschoolers (ages 4-5 years) and their mothers. The subjects completed the following questionnaires: Emotionality, Activity, and Sociability (EAS), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), Center of Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), Parenting Stress Scale, Korean Child Behavior Checklist for Ages 1.5-5 (K-CBCL 1.5-5), and Social Competence and Behavior Evaluation Inventory Short Form (SCBE-30). The data were analyzed by t/F tests, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results and Conclusion: First, preschooler emotionality temperament had positive correlations with attention problems and aggression. Second, maternal depression and parenting stress had a positive correlation with preschooler externalizing problem behaviors. Third, maternal parenting stress had an effect on preschooler attention problems. Forth, preschooler emotional temperament and maternal parenting stress had an effect on preschooler aggression.

버스 운전자들의 성격 특성과 안전 직무수행 및 교통사고와의 관계 (The Relationship among bus Driver's Personality Traits, Safety Job Performance and Traffic Accidents)

  • The study examined the relationship between six broad personality traits(i.e., HEXACO; Honesty-humility, Emotionality, eXtraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Openness to experience), safety job performance, and traffic accidents of Korean occupational bus drivers. Based on the job performance model, we included safety participation as well as safety compliance as safety job performance. Analyses on the data from a total of 492 bus drivers showed that all HEXACO personality traits except Honesty-humility, were valid predictors for both safety compliance and safety participation. Honesty-humility was only related to safety compliance. Among the six personality traits, high conscientiousness and low emotionality were best predictors of safety job performance. As for traffic accidents, conscientiousness was a sole significant predictor. Furthermore, the mediation analysis showed that the effect of conscientiousness on traffic accidents was completely explained by safety compliance and safety participation. The implications of the current findings for practice and future research as well as the limitations of the current study were discussed.

저소득층 유아의 기질과 탄력성과의 관계: 어머니의 애정적 양육행동의 중재효과 (The Relationship between Temperament and Resilience in Preschool Children from Low-Income Families: The Moderating Effect of Maternal Warmth)

  • The object of this study is to examine the relationship between temperament (emotionality, activity, sociability, and shyness) and the resilience (social competence and language ability) of preschool children from low-income families and the moderating effect of maternal warmth. The subjects were 86 low-income preschool children (42 girls and 44 boys; mean age, 70.57 months), their mothers and teachers, recruited from five daycare centers in Namyangju city and Ansan city located in Gyeonggi-do area. Each child's language ability was individually assessed with with the standardized measure, Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale (PRES) and their teachers reported on children's social competence and parents reported on their child's temperament by questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed by correlation analysis and hierarchical regression. The main results of this study were as follows. First, children's emotionality in temperament and maternal warmth had main effects on social competence. Second, only monthly income level and sex had main effects on language ability. Third, maternal warmth moderated the effects of children's shyness in temperament on social competence and language ability as resilience. Findings could provide basic information for programs to promote resilience in preschool children from low-income families.

간호대학생의 임상실습 시 의사소통 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구 (A Phenomenological Study on the Experiences of Nursing Students' Communication in Clinical Nursing Practicum)

  • Background: Unlike traditional quantitative study, this qualitative study is designed to understand and explore the experiences of nursing students's communication in clinical nursing practicum. Methods: Participants were 15 nursing students from a university in Seoul who were selected by purposive sampling. They had been participated in clinical nursing practicum more than one semester. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation from May 29, 2017 to June 8, 2017. Collected data were analyzed by Colaizzi's phenomenological methodology. Results: As a result, 5 theme clusters were derived as follows: 1) the modeling of communication, 2) treatment as a student nurse, 3) respect as a nurse, 4) trauma after communication, and 5) sympathy in communication. This study identified the desire for nursing professionalism, psychological difficulties as negative emotionality, as well as positive emotionality of nursing students in clinical practicum. Conclusion: We should consider a nursing curriculum to prepare and improve the communication of nursing students before participating in clinical practicum. The concrete and systematic communication education would be useful for nursing students to participate clinical practicum effectively.

성인의 이름매력도가 자기효능감과 정서에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Adult's Name Attractiveness on Self-efficiency and Emotionality)

  • 본 연구는 성인 남녀의 이름매력도가 자기효능감과 정서인식에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위하여 실시하였다. 연구의 대상자는 수도권에 거주하는 10대부터 30대까지 남녀 300명을 모집단으로 하였다. 수집과정에서 누락된 설문지와 회수된 설문지 중 불성실한 설문지를 제외한 250부를 분석에 활용하였다. 변인에 따른 이름매력도의 차이를 분석한 결과 연령대와 학력이 낮을수록 자기 이름에 대해서 불만족이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 이름매력도가 자기효능감에 미치는 영향을 검증하기 위하여 실시한 회귀분석의 결과, 모형의 적합도는 R2=.382로 모형의 설명력은 다소 떨어지지만, β=.322, t값이 9.276, p<.001로 나타나 통계적 유의성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 이름의 매력도는 자기효능감에 직접적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그리고 이름매력도가 정서인식에 미치는 영향을 검증하기 위하여 실시한 회귀분석의 결과 R2=.412로 나타나 모형의 설명력은 41.2%를 보였다. 성별, 연령, 학력 등 인구 통계적 변인을 통제하고 실시한 회귀분석의 결과 β=.326, t값이 6.408, p<.001로 나타나 통계적 유의성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 이름의 매력도는 정서인식에 영향을 미친다고 볼 수 있다. 이름의 매력도가 행복이나 삶의 질을 높일 수 있다는 실증연구는 아직 없다. 그러나 개명을 통해서 과거보다 좋아졌다는 이야기는 운동선수들 사이에서는 자주 볼 수 있다.

영아기 인지·의사소통 발달 관련요인 간의 구조적 관계 분석 (An Analysis of Structural Relationships of the Cognitive and Communication Ability Related Variables on Infants)

  • 본 연구는 영아의 인지능력 및 의사소통능력에 영향을 미치는 영아기질, 영아-교사상호작용, 모의 양육스트레스 간의 구조적 관계를 밝히는데 그 목적이 있었다. 연구대상은 S시에 거주하는 만 2세 영아 249명으로 평균월령은 30.21개월이었다. 'K-ASQ', '영아의 기질 평정도구', '부모 스트레스 척도 축소판, '영아교사 상호작용 평가도구'를 사용하여 연구자료를 수집하였으며 수집된 자료는 Pearson 적률 상관계수와 구조방정식 모형 분석을 통해 검증하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 영아의 인지 및 의사소통능력과 사회성 기질, 영아-교사 상호작용간의 정적인 상관이 나타났으며, 영아의 인지 및 의사소통 능력과 정서성 기질, 모의 양육스트레스 간의 부적 상관이 나타났다. 둘째 영아의 인지 및 의사소통 능력에 발달을 미치는 관련변인들의 구조적 관계를 살펴본 결과, 사회성 기질은 모의 양육스트레스에 직접적으로 영향을 주지만 모의 양육스트레스를 매개하여 인지능력에 영향을 주기보다는 주로 직접적인 경로로 인지능력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 영아의 정서성 기질은 모의 양육스트레스를 매개하여 영아의 인지능력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 영아의 기질은 영아-교사의 상호작용에 영향을 주지 않았지만 영아-교사 상호작용은 영아의 인지능력에 직접적인 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 영아의 의사소통 능력에 관한 경로는 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났다.

The emotional design, which is mostly concerned about users consensus and experiences, is understood from a interactive point of view, human, and space. Today, the emotional design is a new paradigm. From this point of view, this paper, which presents patterns analysis of outdoor lighting by the emotional design, applies expression techniques of the emotional design in Analysis process of outdoor lighting patterns. Also, this paper shows examples at analysis process.

기질과 교사와의 관계가 또래상호작용에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Preschoolers' Temperament and Relationships with Teachers on their Peer Interaction)

  • 본 연구에서는 유아의 기질 및 교사와의 관계가 또래상호작용에 미치는 영향을 밝히고, 기질의 영향력을 교사-유아 간 관계가 조절하는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 경기도 소재 사립유치원에 재원중인 만 4, 5세 유아 326명의 어머니와 교사를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 위계적 회귀분석을 사용하여 기질과 교사-유아 관계의 주효과와 상호작용효과를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 유아의 긍정적 또래상호작용에는 교사-유아 간 관계의 주효과와 교사-유아 간 관계 및 정서성 간의 상호작용효과가 발견되어, 교사-유아 간 관계가 유아의 정서성을 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 유아의 부정적 또래상호작용에는 유아의 정서성과 활동성 및 교사-유아 간 친밀 및 갈등 관계의 주효과만이 나타났다. 이로써, 또래와의 긍정적인 상호작용을 증진시키고 부정적인 상호작용을 감소시키기 위해서는 교사의 역할이 매우 중요한 반면, 유아의 기질은 부정적인 상호작용에 제한적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
