Objectives: This study aims to serve as basic data for improving human resource management and the quality of work at dental hospitals and clinics by examining the relationship among clinical dental hygienists' emotional labor, job stress, and turnover intention. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 220 dental hygienists in hospitals and clinics from March 11 to April 26, 2019. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. For participants' burnout, job stress, emotional labor, and turnover intention based on general and occupational characteristics were analyzed using a t-test and one-way ANOVA. After performing a one-way ANOVA, a Duncan test was performed for mean comparison. Pearson's correlation analysis was conducted to determine correlations between variables, and stepwise multiple regression was performed to examine the factors that affect burnout. Results: Clinical dental hygienists' mean burnout was 3.05 points, and the factors that affect such burnout were turnover intention, job stress, and emotional labor. Burnout was higher when job satisfaction was low, turnover intention was low, and emotional labor was high, with a 29.3% explanatory power. Conclusions: For effective human resource management of dental hygienists, it is necessary to develop and implement programs that can reduce emotional labor and burnout.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of dental hygienists in how they view their work and how they rate their emotional labor and occupational stress. Gathering this data was an effort to provide information on how to increase occupational satisfaction and improve work environments for dental hygienists. Methods: We analyzed data collected from 178 dental hygienists. The dental hygienists were randomly selected by convenience sampling from dental hospitals. Results: Our results showed that pediatric hygienists had more negative responses in regard to their views on their work. As for emotional labor, dental hygienists from pediatric dental clinics experienced heavier emotional labor than those from general dental clinics. On the other hand, dental hygienists from general dental clinics suffered more from occupational stress than pediatric dental hygienists did. Conclusions: Given the findings of this study, effective and ideal programs that promote occupational satisfaction for dental hygienists should be prepared, and strategies should be developed to resolve emotional labor and improve their work environments, as well.
The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of fathering practice on adolescents' emotional intelligence and stress coping behaviors respectively. Participants were 654 middle and high school students(male 330, female 324) in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. Questionnaires included fathering practice, emotional intelligence, and stress coping behaviors. Data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 12.0 for t-test, simple and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The major findings were as follows: First, middle school students perceived more fathering practice than high school students. Second, fathering practice(understanding, educating, supporting) were significant predictors of adolescents' emotional intelligence. Third, fathering practice(understanding, educating) were significant predictors of adolescents' active coping behaviors and social support seeking coping behaviors respectively. Fourth, adolescents' active coping behaviors and social support seeking coping behaviors had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between fathering practice and adolescents' emotional intelligence.
The purpose of this study is not only to explore the effects of emotional labor on job stress but also to investigate the moderating effects of grit and social support between emotional labor and job stress. A survey was conducted for 804 call center counselors in Daegu, Daejeon and Suwon to figure out research questions, and the collected data were analyzed with SPSS 25.0. The results of the data analysis are as follows. First, emotional labor of customer counselors was found to have a positive effect on job stress. Second, in the relationship between emotional labor and job stress of customer counselors, grit showed different results according to sub-factors. The higher the Perseverance of Effort, the higher the job stress, and the higher the Consistency of Interest, the lower the job stress. Third, in the relationship between emotional labor and job stress of customer counselors, supervisor support of social support had a moderating effect, while peer support had no moderating effect. It shows that in order to prevent job stress of customer counselors, who have a high intensity of emotional labor, it is necessary to intervene to help them develop a positive perception of themselves through non-cognitive factors such as grit and the support provided by a trusted target. In addition, appropriate intervention methods and educational environment should be supported.
