Purpose: This study investigated the physical and emotional health of South Korean mothers of preterm infants in the early postpartum period. Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, the participants included 91 mothers of preterm infants who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital in South Korea. Physical health status was measured using a self-reported questionnaire, postpartum depression using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, anxiety using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and guilt using a 4-item scale. Results: Fatigue had the highest score among mothers' physical health problems, followed by shoulder pain, nipple pain, neck pain. The average postpartum depression score was 11.02 points, and 44% of women had postpartum depression with a score of 12 or above. Postpartum depression significantly was correlated with physical health (r=.35, p=.001), anxiety (r=.84, p<.001), and guilt (r=.75, p<.001) and was significantly higher for women with multiple births, and preterm infants who required ventilator and antibiotic treatment. Anxiety also showed a significant difference according to preterm infants' condition. Conclusion: The significant correlations between postpartum depression and physical health, anxiety, and guilt indicate a need for nursing interventions that provide integrated management of mothers' physical and emotional health.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the visuo-spatial attention ability and the emotional perception ability of people across the normal range of the scores on the bipolar disorder scale. The Korean version of the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (K-MDQ) was used to measure the bipolar disorder tendency of normal people. A useful field of view (UFOV) task and an emotional perception task were used to measure visuo-spatial attention and emotional perception ability, respectively. The participants did not have any mental illness history or other medical problems. The participants were divided into three groups according to K-MDQ score (low, normal, and high), and their performances were compared. In the UFOV task, the high K-MDQ score group had lower level of performance than the other groups, suggesting that a high bipolar tendency is associated with reduction of visuo-spatial attention ability. In the emotional perception task, the group with the high K-MDQ score showed higher perception of negative emotion bias than the other groups, suggesting a high bipolar tendency to associate with reduction of emotional perception ability. These results suggest that visuo-spatial and emotional attention abilities are related with bipolar disorder tendency even in the normal population.

This study attempts to provide basic data for the development of manpower maintenance programs by checking the degree of job stress and emotional burnout for nurses working in a university hospital and identifying factors affecting emotional burnout. Data were obtained through a structured questionnaire survey conducted on 187 nurses. The average score for job stress of nurses was 2.50 (range 1 to 4) and emotional burnout was 3.29 (range 1 to 5). The factors affecting emotional burnout were occupational climate, job demand, job insecurity, and lack of reward, which accounted for 44% of explanatory power. In order to reduce the emotional burnout of nurses, the management of medical institutions needs administrative and financial support. Further, it is necessary to improve the organizational culture regarding job assignment through job analysis, employment security, and a performance-based reward system.

Purpose: This study was done to: (a) identify levels of emotional labor that nursing students perceived when caring for patients in the hospital during their nursing practicum, (b) examine the impact of emotional labor on burnout, and (c) identify the possible moderating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between emotional labor and burnout for nursing students. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 171 students enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate nursing program in one university located in Korea, and had a practicum experience at least one semester before the study began. Data were collected with self-report questionnaire, and analyzed with SPSS 21.0 program, using hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Mean score for emotional labor was 3.17 with a range of 1 to 5. For nursing students, emotional labor significantly affected burnout in the nursing practicum (F=15.763, p<.001), and explained 30.1% of the variance in burnout. The degree of emotional intelligence acted as a moderator on the relationship between emotional labor and burnout at significant level (F=15.345, p<.001). Conclusion: This research shows that nurse managers as well as nurse educators need to pay attention to nursing students' emotional labor during nursing practicum in the care units of hospitals.

This study was designed to examine the effects of family structure (nuclear, extended family) on children's behavioral and emotional problems. The subjects of this study were 650 primary school children aged 8 to 13 living in Seoul and Incheon (324 from nuclear and 326 from extended families). The Children's Behaviour Questionnaire (CBQ: Rutter, 1970) and a questionnaire containing demographic questions and some additional questions were used for instruments. For the analyses, frequencies, descriptives, chi-square, factor analysis, and t-test were used. The results were analysed and explained in their cut-off points, prevalences, differences and factor structures. The cut-off score obtained in this study was 18, and the prevalences with this cut-off score were 6.3% in total subjects, 8.0% in nuclear families, and 4.6% in extended families. The children from extended families showed less behavioral and emotional problems, especially antisocial behaviours, compared with those from nuclear families, and this difference was significant (p<.05). The factor structures of the CBQ were 'antisocial', 'neurotic', 'mannerism' and 'speech' in total subjects, and, in the case of nuclear families, the factor structures were same as in total subjects, but, in the case of extended families, the 'emotional anxiety' factor was included instead of the 'speech' factor.

The survey of emotional behavioral problems in elementary school children provide baseline data for understanding, treating and preventing emotional behavioral problems in children. Since children can show different behaviors at home and at school, parents' information alone can lead to underestimate severity and prevalence rate of emotional behavioral problems in children. Thus, the author investigated the different the pattern of emotional behavioral problems in elementary school children by various socio-enviornmental factors in urban(Seoul) and rural area, by employing both parents' and teachers' questionnaire. The results were as follows ; Analysis of Rotter's questionnaire, in which high scores mean more serious emotional behavioral problems than low scores. The mean total problems scores for rural elementary school children were higher than those of Seoul elementary school children, and boys showed higher scores than girls. In relation to grade, mena total problems scores diminished as grade increased up to 4th or 5th, and then relatively high score for the 6th grade. Parent's education had significant effect on the total problem scores, that children of less educated parents showed higher score than children of more educated parents. Likewise the highest score was observed in children of unemployed parents. These results demonstrated that emotional behavioral children are related to various socio-environment factors.

This study quantified optimism, emotional intelligence, and depression levels, and explored potential key factors affecting the depression level in undergraduate students. We performed a survey targeting undergraduate students in two Universities at D city and S city, between April 8th and 30th of 2016. After receiving informed consent, a total of 166 university students were recruited. They were asked to fill in a self-reported questionnaire about optimism, emotional-intelligence, and depression. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using IBM SPSS version 22.0. The data analysis results showed that the mean score for optimism was $3.67{\pm}0.51$, $3.66{\pm}0.49$, and $3.69{\pm}0.55$ for overall undergraduate students, undergraduate nursing students, and undergraduate non-nursing students, respectively. Moreover, the mean score of emotional intelligence was $3.56{\pm}0.49$, $3.53{\pm}0.49$, and $3.60{\pm}0.51$, respectively. In addition, the mean score of depression was $8.28{\pm}7.48$, $10.97{\pm}7.65$, and $5.50{\pm}5.54$, respectively. It was revealed that a strong negative correlation exists among optimism, emotional intelligence, and depression. This correlation was stronger for undergraduate nursing students than undergraduate non-nursing students. Optimism and emotional intelligence were key factors influencing depression. The degree of this influence was higher for undergraduate nursing students than undergraduate non-nursing students. In conclusion, a program that empowers optimism and emotional intelligence is necessary to manage depression for undergraduate students.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze emotional labor factors influencing job satisfaction, intent to leave, and nursing performance of clinical nurses. Method: The participants were 384 clinical nurses working in a hospital. Study design was cross sectional survey. Subcategories of emotional labor (frequency of emotional labor, attentiveness of emotional display, mismatch of emotions) of emotional labor were dependent variables. Job satisfaction, intent to leave, and nursing performance were independent variables. Data were analyzed by hierarchial multiple regression. Results: The strength of emotional labor of nurses was similar for all participants in spite of differences in age, position, and clinical career. Total score for emotional labor was 3.21, frequency of emotional labor 3.34, attentiveness of emotional display 3.41, and mismatch of emotions 2.87. Mismatch of emotions influenced job satisfaction (F=12.53, p<.001) $R^2$ 27%, intent to leave (F=8.51, p<.001) $R^2$ 19%, and nursing performance (F=5.80, p<.001) $R^2$ 15%, Conclusion: These findings indicate that the factor (mismatch of emotion) is an important variable for clinical nurses in human resource management. Therefore, nurse managers should consider this factor for the improvement of organizational effectiveness.
This study was designed to examine the effect of depressive mood on identification of emotional facial expression. Participants were screened out of 305 college students on the basis of the BDI-II score. Students with BDI-II score higher than 14(upper 20%) were selected for the Depression Group and those with BDI-II score lower than 5(lower 20%) were selected for the Control Group. A final sample of 20 students in the Depression Group and 20 in the Control Group were presented with facial expression stimuli of an increasing degree of emotional intensity, slowly changing from a neutral to a full intensity of happy, sad, angry, or fearful expressions. The result showed that there was the significant interaction of Group by Emotion(esp. happy and sad) which suggested that depressive mood affects processing of emotional stimuli such as facial expressions. Implication of this result for mood-congruent information processing were discussed.
