  • Organic light emitting devices have attracted the attention of many people because of their high potential for self-emission and flexible display devices. However, due to limitations in device efficiency and lifetime, partial commercialization is underway. In this paper, we have investigated the electrical conduction mechanism of the organic light emitting device by the temperature and the thickness of the light emitting layer through the current - voltage characteristics with respect to the conduction mechanism directly affecting the efficiency and lifetime of the organic light emitting device. Through the study, it was found that the conduction in the low electric field region is caused by the movement of the heat excited charge in the ohmic region and the tunneling of the electric charge due to the high electric field in the high electric field region.

  • Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) received much attention from both academia and industry as the next-generation flat panel displays. However, to produce high quality OLEDs, there are still many challenges to overcome. Especially, in full color OLEDs, the intrinsic wide band gap of the blue emitting materials results in inferior efficiency compared to those of green and red emitting materials. Therefore, extensive research efforts have been devoted to develop efficient blue emitting materials. This review briefly summarizes the basics of OLEDs and introduces highlights of research efforts in blue-emitting materials.

  • Quantum-dot materials have introduced novel applications in organic light-emitting diodes and solar cells. The size controllability and structure modifications have continuously been upgrading the applicability to optoelectronic and flat-panel displays. In particular, quantum-dot organic light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are a device driven through the electrical field applied to the electrical diodes. The QLEDs are affected by the constituent materials and the corresponding device structures. Conventionally, the electrical properties are characterized only in terms of dc-based current-voltage characteristics. The dynamic change in light-emitting diodes should be characterized in emitted and non-emitted states. Therefore, the frequency-dependent impedance can offer different information on the electrical performance in QLED. The current work reports an auxiliary information on the electrical and optical features originating from quantum-dot organic light-emitting diodes. The empirical characterizations are discussed towards an experimental tool in optimizing the light-emitting diodes.

  • An organic light emitting diode (OLED), also light emitting polymer (LEP) and organic electro luminescence (OEL), is any light emitting diode (LED) whose emissive electroluminescent layer is composed of a film of organic compounds. The layer usually contains a polymer substance that allows suitable organic compounds to be deposited. They are deposited in rows and columns onto a flat carrier by a simple "printing" process. The resulting matrix of pixels can emit light of different colors. Such systems can be used in television screens, computer displays, small, portable system screens such as cell phones and PDAs, advertising, information and indication. OLEDs can also be used in light sources for general space illumination, and large-area light-emitting elements. In this paper, we develop the general guide line of the accelerated life test for assuring B10 life of AMOLED(Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) and PMOLED(Passive Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) which are widely used for display monitor less than 115 mm.

  • To fabricate a single layer white organic light emitting diode (OLED), a novel non-conjugated blue emitting material PPPMA-co-DTPM copolymer was synthesized containing a perylene moiety unit with hole transporting and blue emitting ability and a triazine moiety unit with electron transporting ability. The devices were fabricated using PPPMA-co-DTPM $(PPPMA[70\;wt\%]:DTPM[30\;wt\%])$ copolymer by varying the doping concentrations of each red, green and blue fluorescent dye, by molecular-dispersing into Toluene solvent with spin coating method. In case of ITO/PPPMA-co-DTPM:TPB$(3\;mol\%):C6(0.04\;mol\%):NR(0.015\;mol\%)/Al$ structure, as they were molecular-dispersing into 30 mg/ml Toluene solvent, nearly-pure white light was obtained both (0.325, 0.339) in the CIE coordinates at 18 V and (0.335, 0.345) at 15 V. The turn-on voltage was 3 V, the light-emitting turn-on voltage was 4 V, and the maximum external quantum efficiency was $0.667\%$ at 24.5 V. Also, in case of using 40 mg/ml Toluene solvent, the CIE coordinate was (0.345, 0.342) at 20 V.

  • We report on highly efficient blue, orange, and white phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes consisting only two organic layers. Hole transporting 4, 4,' 4"-tris (N-carbazolyl)triphenylamine (TcTa) and electron transporting 2-(diphenylphosphoryl) spirofluorene (SPPO1) are used as an emitting host for orange light-emitting bis(3-benzothiazol-2-yl-9-ethyl-9H-carbazolato) (acetoacetonate) iridium ((btc)2(acac)Ir) and blue light-emitting iridium(III)bis(4,6-difluorophenyl-pyridinato-N,C2') picolinate (FIrpic) dopant, respectively. Combining these two orange and blue light-emitting layers, we successfully demonstrate highly efficient white PHOLEDs while maintaining Commission internationale de l'eclairage coordinates of (x = 0.373, y = 0.443). Accordingly, we achieve a maximum external quantum, current, and power efficiencies of 12.9%, 30.3 cd/A, and 30.0 lm/W without out-coupling enhancement.

  • Due to optimal advances such as chromatic performance, durability, low power consumption, high efficiency, long-lifetime, and excellent environmental friendliness, white LEDs (WLEDs) are widely used in vehicle front lighting, backlighting, decorative lighting, street lighting, and even general lighting. In this paper, the remote packaging WLEDs (RP-WLEDs) with bi-layer red-emitting $Sr_2Si_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ and yellow-emitting YAG:Ce phosphor was proposed and investigated. The simulation results based on the MATLAB software and the commercial software Light Tools indicated that the color rendering index (CRI) of bi-layer phosphor RP-WLEDs had a significant increase. The CRI had a considerable increase from 72 to 94. In conclusion, the results showed that bi-layer red-emitting $Sr_2Si_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ and yellow-emitting YAG:Ce phosphor could be a prospective approach for manufacturing RP-WLEDs with enhanced optical properties.

  • As a new fluoranthene derivative, a synthesis of benzo[k]fluoranthene was suggested, so new blue emitting materials, 7,12-diphenylbenzo[k] fluoranthene [DPBF] and 7,8,10- triphenylfluoranthene [TPF] were synthesized. $EL_{max}$ wavelength of the device using DPBF as an emitting layer was 436 and 454nm in the deepblue region, which are similar values with PL. The device that used DPBF as an emitting layer showed high efficiency of 2.11cd/A and the excellent color coordinate value of (0.161, 0.131) in deep-blue region.
