In this paper, InP-based InGaAs/InAlAs quantum cascade lasers(QCLs) providing nearly zero emission wavelength mismatch between the measured emission wavelength and the designed transition wavelength of QCLs is presented. The zero emission wavelength mismatch of QCLs influenced by both the accurate compositions and thicknesses of the low-pressure metal-organic vapor-phase epitaxy(MOVPE) grown InGaAs and InAlAs layers throughout the core and the abrupt composition transitions between InGaAs and InAlAs layers. The abrupt interfaces between InGaAs and InAlAs layers have been achieved throughout the core structure by means of controlling individually purged vent/run valves of a closed coupled showerhead reactor. In addition, maintaining substrate temperature constant during InGaAs/InAlAs core growth was a partial factor of uniformity improvement of QCLs. These approaches for reducing the possible discrepancies between the designed and MOVPE grown epitaxial structures could lead to improvement of QCL performance.
A new organic light emitting device(OLED) with two peak wavelength(blue and yellow) emission was fabricated using the selective doping in a single fluorescent host , and its electrical and optical characteristics were investigated. The fabricated device showed the luminance and efficiency of 1600 $Cd/m^2$ and 2.4 Im/W under the applied voltage of 10V, respectively. And its electroluminescent spectra had two peak wavelengths of 470nm and 560nm emitting bluish white light. The OLED with dual wavelength emission in this experiment is likely to be developed as a white OLED with simpler fluorescent system than conventional devices.
For possible applications as luminescent materials for white-light emission using UV-LEDs, $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors were prepared by a solid state reaction. The photoluminescence properties of the phosphor were investigated under ultraviolet ray (UV) excitation. The prepared phosphor powders were characterized to from a single phase of a monoclinic crystalline structure by a powder X-ray diffraction analysis. In the photoluminescence spectra, the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor showed an intense emission band centered at the 584 nm wavelength due to the f-d transition of the $Eu^{2+}$ activator. The optimum concentration of $Eu^{2+}$ activator in the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$ host, indicating the maximum emission intensity under the excitation of a 395 nm wavelength, was 5 at%. In addition, it was confirmed that the $Eu^{2+}$ ions are substituted at both $Ba^{2+}$ sites in the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$ crystal. On the other hand, the critical distance of energy transfer between $Eu^{2+}$ ions in the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$ host was evaluated to be approximately 19.3 A. With increasing temperature, the emission intensity of the $Ba_2Mg(PO_4)_2$:Eu phosphor was considerably decreased and the central wavelength of the emission peak was shifted toward a short wavelength.
A spectrofluorimetric methods has been developed for the determination of carbaryl in an aqueous solution. The effects of excitation wavelength, concentration of surfactant, concentration of ethanol as cosurfactant and emission wavelength on the fluorescence intensity were investigated to find the optimum experimental conditions to determine carbaryl. The emission intensity of the carbayl was increased with addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a surfactant. The emission intensity of the carbaryl was further increased with addition of ethanol as a co-surfactant. The optimum conditions were 281 nm for excitation wavelength, $1.0{\times}10^{-2}mol/L$ SDS, 20% (v/v) ethanol and 349 nm for emission wavelength. Under the optimum conditions, the emission intensity increased with the carbaryl concentration in the range of $5{\times}10^{-7}$ to $1.0{\times}10^{-4}mol/L$ with a detection limit ($3{\sigma}$) of $1.1{\times}10^{-8}mol/L$. The resulting correlation coefficient of the working curve was 0.9996.

The aim is to investigate the spectra responsibilities of QD (Quantum Dot) for the innovation of new dosimetry application for therapeutic Megavoltage X-ray range. The unique electrical and optical properties of QD are expected to make it a good sensing material for dosimeter. This study shows the spectra responsibility of toluene based ZnCd QD and PPO (2.5-diphenyloxazol) mixed liquid scintillator. The QDs of 4 sizes corresponding to an emission wavelength (ZnCdSe/ZnS:$440{\pm}5nm$, ZnCdSeS:470, 500, $570{\pm}5nm$) were utilized. A liquid scintillator for control sample was made of toluene, PPO. The Composition of QD loaded scintillators are about 99 wt% Toluene as solvent, 1 wt% of PPO as primary scintillator and 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 wt% of QDs as solute. For the spectra responsibility of QD scintillation, they were irradiated for 30 second with 6 MV beam from a LINAC ($Infinity^{TM}$, Elekta). With the guidance of 1.0 mm core diameter optical fiber, scintillation spectrums were measured by a compact CCD spectrometer which could measure 200~1,000 nm wavelength range (CCS200, Thorlabs). We measured the spectra responsibilities of QD loaded organic liquid scintillators in two scintillation mechanisms. First was the direct transfer and second was using wave shifter. The emission peaks from the direct transfer were measured to be much smaller luminescent intensity than based on the wavelength shift from the PPO to QDs. The emission peak was shifted from PPO emission wavelength 380 nm to each emission wavelength of loaded QD. In both mechanisms, 500 nm QD loaded samples were observed to radiate in the highest luminescence intensity. We observed the spectra responsibility of QD doped toluene based liquid scintillator in order to innovate QD dosimetry applicator. The liquid scintillator loading 0.2 wt% of 500 nm emission wavelength QD has most superior responsibility at 6 MV photon beam. In this study we observed the spectra responsibilities for therapeutic X-ray range. It would be the first step of innovating new radiation dosimetric methods for radiation treatment.
A simple whole-cell-based sensing system is proposed for determining the cell mass of H. pluvialis using ultraviolet fluorescence spectroscopy. An emission signal at 368 nm was used to detect the various kinds of green, green-brown, brown-red, and red H. pluvialis cells. The fluorescence emission intensities of the cells were highest at 368 nm with an excitation wavelength of 227 nm. An excitation wavelength of 227 nm was then selected for cell-mass sensing, as the emission fluorescence intensities of the cell suspensions were highest at this wavelength after subtracting the background interference. The emission fluorescence intensities of HPLC-grade water, filtered water, and HPLC-grade water containing a modified Bold's basal medium (MBBM) were measured and the difference was less than 1.6 for the selected wavelengths. Moreover, there was no difference in the emission intensity at 368 nm among suspensions of the various morphological states of the cells. A calibration curve of the fluorescence emission intensities. and cell mass was obtained with a high correlation ($R^2=0.9938$) for the various morphological forms of H. pluvialis. Accordingly, the proposed method showed no significant dependency on the various morphological cell forms, making it applicable for cell-mass measurement. A high correlation was found between the fluorescence emission intensities and the dry cell weight with a mixture of green, green-brown, brown-red, and red cells. In conclusion, the proposed model can be directly used for cell-mass sensing without any pretreatment and has potential use as a noninvasive method for the online determination of algal biomass.

ZnSe, ZnSe:Ho/sup 3+/, Mg/sub x/Zn/sub 1-x/Se and Mg/sub x/Zn/sub 1-x/Se:Ho/sup 3+/ crystals were grown by the chemical transport reaction method. The crystal structures and optical energy band gaps of the single crystals were investigated. Their photoluminescence(PL) spectra were measured at 10 [K]. Sharp emission peaks in the blue-green wavelength range and broad emission peaks in the yellow-red wavelength range were observed. The single crystals doped with 1.0 [mol%] of holmium did not show the sharp emission peaks because of defects which were thought to be originated to the holmium dopant.
A trace amount of 4-biphenylcarboxylate having a pre-twisted biphenyl moiety was attached to a poly(methyl methacrylate) side chain and the fluorescence properties of the chromophore were investigated in various solvents such as ethyl acetate and butyl chloride. At room temperature, the polymer exhibited a distinct red shift of the short wavelength emission (325 nm) and an enhanced emission intensity around 430 nm upon excitation at the absorption red edge. The temperature dependence of the intensity ratio (R) of the 325 nm emission to the 430 nm emission was observed when exciting at the red edge over the temperature range between -20 and 60 ℃. However, the temperature dependence was not observed when exciting at the shorter wavelength. The Arrhenius plot of the R value shows the activation energy of 6.0 kJ/mol which is in good agreement with the energy required for the twist of the biphenyl moiety. Together with the results of red edge excitation effects it was concluded that the pre-twisted geometry of the biphenyl moiety is preserved by the restriction of the polymer chain to facilitate the formation of the twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) state upon excitation.
We investigated the optimal stacked structure from the perspective of process architecture (PA) through emission spectrum analysis according to the wavelength of quantum dot (QD)-organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). We confirmed that the blue-light leakage through the QD can be minimized by increasing the QD filling density above a critical value in the red QD (R-QD) layer. In addition, when the thickness of red-color filter (R-CF) at the upper part of the R-QD increased to more than 3 ㎛, the leakage of blue light through the R-CF was effectively blocked, and a very sharp emission spectrum in the red wavelength band could be obtained. According to these outstanding results, we expect that the development of QD-OLED displays with very excellent color gamut can be possibly realized.
