This paper proposes a method to predict chatter vibration generated in milling processes and to enhance machining quality and surface finish. Chatter vibration is a common problem in the milling of thin walls and floors. It causes a poor surface finish, or even marks, to appear on the final machined surface. Therefore, an effective method is necessary to predict chatter vibration in machine tools. In this investigation, chatter vibration is measured by an accelerometer, microphone, and Acoustic Emission (AE) sensor in a machining operation. Based on the results of the experiment, a microphone can be applied for the prediction of chatter vibration in milling processes.

We report on a continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) optimized for mid-infrared emission above 5.0 ㎛. The OPO is based on a magnesium-oxide-doped periodically poled LiNbO3(MgO:PPLN) crystal with a fan-out grating design. A linear two-mirror cavity resonating both at the pump and signal wavelengths is stabilized to the pump laser by using the modified Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) method. The idler wavelength is continuously tunable from 4.7 ㎛ up to 5.3 ㎛ by varying the poling period of the fan-out grating crystal. Pumped by a diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser with a power of 1.1 W at 1064 nm, the maximum idler output power is measured to be 5.3 mW at 4.8 ㎛. The output power above 5.0 ㎛ is reduced to the hundreds of ㎼ level due to increased absorption in the crystal, but is stable and strong enough to be measured with a conventional detector.
Interplay between calcium ions ($Ca^{2+}$) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) delicately controls diverse pathophysiological functions of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). However, details of the $Ca^{2+}$ and ROS signaling network have been hindered by the absence of a method for dual measurement of $Ca^{2+}$ and ROS. Here, a real-time monitoring system for $Ca^{2+}$ and ROS was established using a genetically encoded hydrogen peroxide indicator, HyPer, and a ratiometric $Ca^{2+}$ indicator, fura-2. For the simultaneous detection of fura-2 and HyPer signals, 540 nm emission filter and 500 nm~ dichroic beamsplitter were combined with conventional exciters. The wide excitation spectrum of HyPer resulted in marginal cross-contamination with fura-2 signal. However, physiological $Ca^{2+}$ transient and hydrogen peroxide were practically measurable in HyPer-expressing, fura-2-loaded VSMCs. Indeed, distinct $Ca^{2+}$ and ROS signals could be successfully detected in serotonin-stimulated VSMCs. The system established in this study is applicable to studies of crosstalk between $Ca^{2+}$ and ROS.

In conventional far-field microscopy, two objects separated closer than approximately half of an emission wavelength cannot be resolved, because of the fundamental limitation known as Abbe's diffraction limit. During the last decade, several super-resolution methods have been developed to overcome the diffraction limit in optical imaging. Among them, super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) developed by Dertinger et al [1], employs the statistical analysis of temporal fluorescence fluctuations induced by blinking phenomena in fluorophores. SOFI is a simple and versatile method for super-resolution imaging. However, due to the uncontrollable blinking of fluorophores, there are some limitations to using SOFI for several applications, including the limitations of available blinking fluorophores for SOFI, a requirement of using a high-speed camera, and a low signal-to-noise ratio. To solve these limitations, we present a new approach combining SOFI with speckle pattern illumination to create illumination-induced optical fluctuation instead of blinking fluctuation of fluorophore.. This technique effectively overcome the limitations of the conventional SOFI since illumination-induced optical fluctuation is possible to control unlike blinking phenomena of fluorophore. And we present the sub-diffraction resolution image using SOFI with speckle illumination.

Due to their excellent optical and electrochemical properties, conjugated polymers have attracted much attention over the last two decades and employed to opto-electrical devices. In particular, conjugated polymers possess many attractive features that make them suitable for a variety of sensing task. For example, their delocalized electronic structures can be strongly modified by varying the surrounding environment, which significantly affected molecular energy level. In other word, conjugated polymers can detect and transduce the environmental information into a fluorescence signal. Conjugated polymers also display amplified quenching compared to small molecule counterparts. This amplified fluorescence quenching is attributed to the delocalization and migration of the excitons along the conjugated polymer backbones. Long backbones of conjugated polymer provide the transporting path for electron as a conduit, allowing that excitons migrate rapidly into quencher site along the backbone. This is often referred to as the molecular wire effect or antenna effect. Moreover, structures of conjugated polymers can be easily tailored to adjust solubility, absorption/emission properties, and regulation of electron/energy transfer. Based on this versatility, conjugated polymers have been utilized to many novel sensory platforms as a promising material. In this tutorial, I will highlight a variety of fluorescence sensors base on conjugated polymer and explain their sensory mechanism together with selected examples from reference literatures.

Intelligent vehicles are equipped with radar sensors for collision avoidance. We present a method of suppressing mutual interference among pulse-type radars, where all the radars are standardized. We developed a method of separating the true self-reflection from the false one by controlling the pulse emission of a radar in anorhogonal ON, OFF pattern. Interference signal identified in OFF-intervals is recorded to indicate the positions of the expected ghosts in ON-intervals. PFA and PM are derived for a radar system with I-Q demodulation scheme, where Gaussian noise alone is Rayleigh-distributed and Gaussian noise plus reflected radar pulse are Rician-distributed. The value of the threshold adaptively updated in order to prevent the deterioration of PM. In the experimental result, PFA decreases by an order of 10,000, when compared with the conventional M of N majority voting method.

Vibration condition monitoring at low rotational speeds is still a challenge. Acoustic emission (AE) is the most used technique when dealing with low speed bearings. At low rotational speeds, the energy induced from surface contact between raceway and rolling elements is very weak and sometimes buried by interference frequencies. This kind of issue is difficult to solve using vibration monitoring. Therefore some researchers utilize artificial damage on inner race or outer race to simplify the case. This paper presents vibration signal analysis of low speed slewing bearings running at a low rotational speed of 15 rpm. The natural damage data from industrial practice is used. The fault frequencies of bearings are difficult to identify using a power spectrum. Therefore the relatively improved method of empirical mode decomposition (EMD), ensemble EMD (EEMD) is employed. The result is can detect the fault frequencies when the FFT fail to do it.

The spin structure of Fe over layers on Cu (001), especially in region II is one of the unsolved problem for many years. We study the out - of - plane (OP) Fermi surfaces (FSs) of 7 monolayer Fe/Cu (001) films using angle resolved photo emission spectroscopy (ARPES). Ultrathin Fe was grown on Cu (001) substrate at room temperature and the experimental measurements were carried out at room temperature and low temperature. Fermi surfaces measured about $\frac{1}{4}$ of the Brillouin Zone (BZ) using photon energies ranging from 170 eV to 280 eV. Our results confirmed that ferromagnetic signal at 7 ML Fe on Cu (001) is nearly zero. These results are consistent with our recent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and surface magneto - optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) experiments. Based on our observations we have made a simple model of this system, which explains all the experimental results.
NHERF ($Na^+/H^+$ exchanger regulatory factor) and E3KARP (NHE3 kinase A regulatory protein) play important roles in membrane targeting, trafficking and sorting of ion channels, transmembrane receptors and signaling proteins in many tissues. Each of these proteins contains two PDZ (PSD-95/Dlg-1/ZO-1) domains, which mediate the assembly of transmembrane and cytosolic proteins into functional signal transduction complexes. The interaction between NHERF and E3KARP was investigated by surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy (BIAcore), fluorescence measurement, His-tagged pull-down experiment, and size-exclusion column (SEC) chromatography. BIAcore experiments revealed that NHERF bound to E3KARP with an apparent $K_D$ of 7 nM. Fluorescence emission spectra of the NHERF-E3KARP complex suggested that the tight interaction between these proteins was accompanied by significant conformational changes in one or both. The CD spectra of NHERF and E3KARP show that the conformational changes of these proteins were dependent on pH and temperature. These results implicate that the NHERF-E3KARP complex allows intracellular signaling complexes to form through PDZ-PDZ interactions.

This paper analyzes EM(Electromagnetic) characteristic in the high voltage connector for the hybrid electric vehicle. The connector bridges the electrical components and helps transferring electrical power and signal through it. The necessity of the high voltage and current connector development is emphasized because the hybrid electric vehicle recently uses the high voltage and current more than 500V and 80A. So far there has not been international EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) standards to limit the RE(Radiation Emission) from the connector for the hybrid electric vehicle. In this paper we analyzed EM characteristic of the 288V, 65A connector to check if the RE from the high voltage connector could be within the RE limit standard of vehicle. Three-dimensional modeling and simulation was conducted by using MWS(Microwave Studio) of the CST corporation, and the result was compared with the measured RE data, which showed good coincidence each other.
