Control of polymer conformations in heterogeneous confinement plays an important role in natural and engineering processes. We present a simulation study on the conformational structure and dynamics of a single, flexible polymer in a dense array of nanoposts with different sizes and separations, especially, when the volume of the interstitial space formed between four nanoposts is less than the size of the polymer chain. When a polymer is placed in the array of nanoposts, the size of polymer increases compared with that in the absence of nanoposts due to the confinement effect. It is shown that when a polymer is confined in the array of nanoposts the chain is elongated in the direction parallel to the nanoposts. As the interstitial volume between four nanoposts decreases either by increasing the nanopost diameter or by decreasing the separation between nanoposts, the chain elongation becomes more pronounced. On the contrary, the polymer size varies in a non-monotonic fashion, with an initial elongation followed by a chain contraction, as the interstitial volume is reduced both by increasing the nanopost diameter and decreasing the separation at the same time while keeping constant the width of the passageway between two nanoposts. The simulation analysis shows that the non-monotonic dependence of polymer size is determined by interplay between the chain alignment along the nanoposts in each interstitial volume and the chain spreading through passageways over several interstitial volume.
With the increase in the annealing temperature, the volume fraction of austenite phase increased and the volume fraction of ferrite phase decreased. In compliance with the addition of N, not only the volume fraction of austenite phase was increased but also the austenite structure was made larger. Volume fraction of ${\sigma}$ phase was increased by decreasing of the volume fraction of ferrite phase, with the increase in the aging time and in compliance with the addition of N. As increasing in volume fraction of ${\sigma}$ phase, tensile strength and hardness increased, while elongation and impact value decreased. Elongation slowly decreased and impact value rapidly decreased at the early stage of aging. By the added N, tensile strength, elongation, hardness and impact value was increased.
The effect of deformation temperature and manganes contents on the tensile properties of duplex stainless steels with the structure of both ferrite and austenite were investigate. For this investigation, Fe-19% Cr-5% Ni-4~8% Mn alloys were prepared. The result obtained from this experiment are summerized as follows. With decreasing deformation temperature, tensile strengths of duplex stainless steel increased. Elongation showd to be increased and then decreased after representing the highest value at specific temperature. Tensile properties of duplex stainless steel were controlled by TRIP behavior in this experimental range of austenite contents. Tensile strengths decreased with increasing Mn contents. With increasing Mn contents, elongation decreased in the high temperature region, but increased in the low temperature region. The peak temperature representing the maximum elongation were changed to low temperature and the width of peak appeared to be broaden with increasing Mn contents.
The study was investigated on the effect of austenitizing and austempering conditions on retained austenite amount and carbon contents in retained austenite and simultaneously the effect of these variation on hardness, tensile and impact properties. A material of as-cast condition is composed of bull's eye structure with ferrite surrounding spheroidized graphite having about $5-10{\mu}m$ size and matrix structure of pearlite. Then, the contents of spheroidized graphite was about 5%. The retained austenite and carbon contents in the retained austenite were increased with the increasing of austenitizing and austempering temperatures, while the retained austenite showed the peak value and is decreased with increasing of austempering time. With increasing of austenitizing temperature, tensile strength, elongation and impact absorb energy increased and hardness was almost not changed, while with increasing of austempering temperature, tensile strength and hardness decreased, whereas elongation and impact absorb energy was increased. With increasing of retained austenite amount, the tensile strength is slowly decreased but elongation was increased with direct proportion. Also, Impact absorb energy is shown identity value untile about 18%, but rapidly increased above it. Elongation and Impact absorb energy are strongly controlled by the amount of retained austenite, but tensile strength is affected with various factors such as retained austenite amount and bainitic morphology.
When strain sensing cables are under long-term stress and cyclic loading, creep may occur in the jacket material and each layer of the cable structure may slide relative to other layers, causing fatigue in the cables. This study proposes a device for testing the fatigue characteristics of three types of cables operating under different conditions to establish a decay model for observing the patterns of strain decay. The fatigue characteristics of cables encased in polyurethane (PU), GFRP-reinforced, and wire rope-reinforced jackets were compared. The findings are outlined as follows. The cable strain decayed exponentially, and the decay process involved quick decay, slow decay, and stabilization stages. Moreover, the strain decay increased with the initial strain and tensile frequency. The shorter the unstrained period was, the more similar the initial strain levels of the strain decay curves were to the stabilized strain levels of the first cyclic elongation. As the unstrained period increased, the initial strain levels of the strain decay curves approached those of the first cyclic elongation. The tested sensing cables differed in the amount and rate of strain decay. The wire rope-reinforced cable exhibited the smallest amount and rate of decay, whereas the GFRP-reinforced cable demonstrated the largest.
Austenite formation and Low temperatures mechanical properties of HSLA steel of different starting structures have been studied by intercritical annealing(IA). The different starting structures are: ferrite+pearlite(FP1), martensite(M1), cold worked ferrite+pearlite(FP2) and cold worked martensite(M2). In most cases tensile strength and elongation was increased by decreasing the testing temperatures regardless of the IA time. Tensile strength of the cold worked starting structures was higher than that of the non-cold worked starting structures. However not any noticeable difference in elongation was found between two cases. Low temperatures impact properties were affected by the starting structures. Charpy V-notch impact transition temperatures of the M-starting structures were around $-40^{\circ}C$, and those of the FP starting structures were around $-10^{\circ}C$. Impact energy was lower in the cold worked specimens than in the non-cold worked specimens at the same starting structures. DP structure obtained from the M-starting structure has shown superior low temperatures mechanical properties than the DP structure obtained from the FP-starting structure.

Rapidly solidified ribbon-consolidation processing was applied for preparation of high strength bulk Mg-Zn-Gd alloys. Mg alloys have been used in automotive and aerospace industries. Rapid solidification (RS) process is suitable for the development of high strength Mg alloys, because the process realizes grain-refinement, increase in homogeneity, and so on. Recently, several nanocrystalline Mg-Zn-Y alloys with high specific tensile strength and large elongation have been developed by rapidly solidified powder metallurgy (RS P/M) process. Mg-Zn-Y RS P/M alloys are characterized by long period ordered (LPO) structure and sub-micron fine grains. The both additions of rare earth elements and zinc remarkably improved the mechanical properties of RS Mg alloys. Mg-Zn-Gd alloy also forms LPO structure in -Mg matrix coherently, therefore, it is expected that the RS Mg-Zn-Gd alloys have excellent mechanical properties. In this study, we have developed high strength RS Mg-Zn-Gd alloys with LPO structure and nanometer-scale precipitates by RS ribbon-consolidation processing. $Mg_{97}Zn_1Gd_2$ and $Mg_{95.5}Zn_{1.5}Gd_3$ and $Mg_{94}Zn_2Gd_4$ bulk alloys exhibited high tensile yield strength (470 MPa and 525 MPa and 566 MPa) and large elongation (5.5% and 2.8% and 2.4%).
To evaluate the effect of lobed structure on pollutant emission, an experimental study examines NOx and CO emissions associated with four burner geometries, such as a conventional circular burner and three lobed ones. Rapid mixing allowed by the lobed burner to produce lean premixed flames, with narrower flame stability diagram than for the conventional circular one. Conventional circular burner of wide and uniform burner rim has an advantage of flame stabilization. Correlation on fuel discharge velocity for flame blowout should be included a variable related to the wall effect of the burner. NOx emission reduces by about 5% at the burner with lobed structure in fuel discharge side compared to conventional circular one. This is due to lower flame temperatures through flame elongation and increased radiative heat losses, caused by partially luminous flame in flame front. Meanwhile, at the burner with lobed structure in air discharge side and both fuel and air discharge sides, NOx emission somewhat increases with reduced radiative heat losses in spite of flame elongation. Therefore, the rapid mixing by lobed structure does not always have an advantage on NOx reduction.
The purpose of this study is to characterize physical and tensile properties according to a knitting method as basic materials for solving the difficulties that occur due to the fact that the crosswise elongation is most different among knit stitch at the time of measuring elongation of knitwear. The sample used for this study was wool $100\%$ and was knitted into two, that is, controlled loop length controlled to properties of structure and fixed loop length by using Shimaseiki SES-124S 12G computer automatic flat knitting machine with DSCS device. Also, the density of rib fabric was 12gauge and its quantity was a total of seven of $0{\times}0,\;1{\times}1,\;2{\times}1,\;2{\times}2,\;3{\times}3,\;4{\times}4$ and including plain fabric, and knitted 2 pieces of sample of 300 wale${\times}400$ course. In conclusion, rib stitch has the much higher stretch rate in the direction of the course than other stitches.
Experiments described in which cotton fabrics at different stages of chemical processing were abraded to different extents on a Stoll Abrasion Tester with three different abradants, namely, a worsted fabric, flax fabric and silicon carbide paper. The four different plain-weave cotton fabrics selected were 1) desized, 2) scoured and bleached, 3) mercerized, 4) resin-treated. The surface abrasive damages of treated fabrics were observed by SAM, and load-elongation percent retentions of abraded samples were measured by Instrong Tester. The result were as follows: 1. The maximum percent retention of load-elongation with three different abradants was exhibited by the scoured and bleached fabrics and the minimum by the resin finished fabric. 2. The electron micrographs of four different cotton fabrics abraded by flax, worsted fabric abradants for 900 rubs showed a large number of criss-crossing stray fibers in fabric structure. It may be the molecular adhesion for frictional resistance to be explained. 3. The electron micrographs of four different cotton fabrics abraded by silicone carbide abradants showed the form of busing or mashing fibers in fabric structure. The above might be on the basis of the ploughing theory.
