  • Elliptic curve cryptosystems based on discrete logarithm problem in the group of points of an elliptic curve defined over a finite field. The discrete logarithm in an elliptic curve group appears to be more difficult than discrete logarithm problem in other groups while using the relatively small key size. An implementation of elliptic curve cryptosystems needs finite field arithmetic computation. Hence finite field arithmetic modules must require less hardware resources to archive high performance computation. In this paper, a new architecture of finite field multiplier using conversion scheme of normal basis representation into polynomial basis representation is discussed. Proposed architecture provides less resources and lower complexity than conventional bit serial multiplier using normal basis representation. This architecture has synthesized using synopsys FPGA express successfully.

  • 작은 홀수 표수를 갖는 유한체 위에 정의된 타원곡선에서 스칼라 곱을 효율적으로 구현하기 위해 프로베니우스 자기준동형(Frobenius endomorphism)이 유용하게 사용된다. 본 논문은 이러한 타원곡선에서 스칼라 곱 연산속도를 향상 시키는 새로운 방법을 소개한다. 이 방법은 스칼라의 프로베니우스 자기준동형 확장길이를 기존의 것보다 줄이므로 속도개선을 얻는다.

  • Recently, many power analysis attacks have been proposed. Since the attacks are powerful, it is very important to implement cryptosystems securely against the attacks. We propose countermeasures against power analysis attacks for elliptic curve cryptosystems based on Koblitz curves (KCs), which are a special class of elliptic curves. That is, we make our countermeasures be secure against SPA, DPA, and new DPA attacks, specially RPA, ZPA, using a random point at each execution of elliptic curve scalar multiplication. And since our countermeasures are designed to use the Frobenius map of KC, those are very fast.

  • This paper introduces a new joint signed expansion method for computing simultaneous scalar multiplication on an elliptic curve and a modified binary algorithm for efficient use of the new expansion method. The proposed expansion method can be also be used in cryptosystems such as RSA and EIGamal cryptosystems.

  • In recent years, security is essential factor of our safe network community. Therefore, data encryption/ decryption technology is improving more and more. Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem proposed by N. Koblitz and V. Miller independently in 1985, require fewer bits lot the same security, there is a net reduction in cost, size, and time. In this paper, we design high speed underlying field arithmetic processor for elliptic curve cryptosystem. The targeting device is VIRTEX V1000FG680 and verified by Xilinx simulator.

  • The scalar point multiplication operations is one of the most time-consuming components in elliptic curve cryptosystems. In this paper, we suggest how to induce the point-quadruple (4Q) operation by improving the double-and-add method, which has been a prevailing computing method for calculating the result of a scalar point multiplication. Induced and drived numerical expressions were evaluated and verified by a real application using C programming language. The induced algorithm can be applied to a various kind of calculations in elliptic curve operations more efficiently and by a faster implementation.

  • 1985년 N. Koblitz와 V. Miller가 각각 독립적으로 제안한 타원곡선 암호시스템(ECC : Elliptic Curve Cryptosystems)은 유한체 위에서 정의된 타원곡선 군에서의 이산대수 어려움에 기초한다. 타원곡선 암호시스템은 다른 공개키 시스템에 비해 보다 짧은 길이의 키만으로도 동일한 수준의 안전도를 유지할 수 있다는 장점으로 인하여, 스마트카드나 모바일 시스템 등에서와 같이 메모리와 처리능력이 제한된 하드웨어에도 이식 가능한 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 타원곡선 암호시스템에 필요한 유한체 연산을 이진체(Binary Finite Field)인 GF(2$^{193}$ )과 OEF(Oprimal Extension Field) 상에서 VHDL 언어를 사용하여 구현을 하였고 각 연산의 성능을 비교하였다.

Differential Power Analysis on Countermeasures Using Binary Signed Digit Representations

  • Side channel attacks are a very serious menace to embedded devices with cryptographic applications. To counteract such attacks many randomization techniques have been proposed. One efficient technique in elliptic curve cryptosystems randomizes addition chains with binary signed digit (BSD) representations of the secret key. However, when such countermeasures have been used alone, most of them have been broken by various simple power analysis attacks. In this paper, we consider combinations which can enhance the security of countermeasures using BSD representations by adding additional countermeasures. First, we propose several ways the improved countermeasures based on BSD representations can be attacked. In an actual statistical power analysis attack, the number of samples plays an important role. Therefore, we estimate the number of samples needed in the proposed attack.

  • The performance of elliptic curve based on public key cryptosystems is mainly appointed by the efficiency of the underlying finite field arithmetic. This work describes a finite field multiplier and divider which is implemented using SystemC. Also this present an efficient hardware for performing the elliptic curve point multiplication using the polynomial basis representation. In order to improve the speed of the multiplier with as a little extra hardware as possible, adopted hybrid finite field multiplication and finite field divider.
