This paper presents a study on the analysis and evaluation for ELF( Extremely Low Frequency) electric and magnetic fields under the transmission line according to the power system states. The power system states are classified into two types, normal state resulting from normal operation and alert state from outages. The current in a system is changed continually owing to the load fluctuations even in a normal operation. To calculate the current of the concerned line in a normal state, the system load level is devided into light, base and heavy load level. In case of contingency, an efficient algorithm based on matrix inversion lemma is developed to figure out the current changes. In order to analyze the variations of ELF field caused by the current fluctuations the electrostatic field approach which is far simpler than the electromagnetic field one based on Maxwell equation is introduced in this paper. The suggested method is applied to the IEEE 14 bus system to demonstrate the usefulness.

Wearable and ubiquitous micro systems will be greatly growing and their related devices should be self-powered in order to avoid the replacement of finite power sources, for example, by scavenging energy from the environment. With ever reducing power requirements of both analog and digital circuits, power scavenging approaches are becoming increasingly realistic. One approach is to drive an electromechanical converter from ambient motion or vibration. Vibration-driven generators based on electromagnetic, electrostatic and piezoelectric technologies have been demonstrated. Among various generator types proposed so far, piezoelectric generator possesses considerable potential in micro system. To overcome low mechanical-to- electric energy conversion, the piezoelectric device should activate in resonance mode in response to external vibration. Normally, the external vibration excretes at low frequency ranging 0.1 to 200 Hz, whereas the resonant frequencies of the devices are fixed as constant. Therefore, keeping their resonant mode in varying external vibration can be one of important points in enhancing the conversion efficiency. We investigated the possibility of use of multi-bender type piezoelectric devices. To match the external vibration frequency with the device resonant frequency, the various devices with different resonant frequency were chosen. Under an external vibration acceleration of 0.1G at 120 Hz, the device exhibited a peak-to-peak voltage of 2.8 V and a power of 0.5 mw in resonance mode.
This paper predicts the changes in the spring constant, the resonant frequency, the electrostatic force, and the displacement of a resonant structure due to non-ideal anisotropic RIE etching process. First, a $6\;{\mu}m$ thick polysilicon was etched by RIE and the anisotropy of the etched structure was measured as a function of a RF power, a $Cl_2$ flow rate and a chamber pressure. In the experimental results, an anisotropy was decreased as the RF power, the $Cl_2$ flow rate, or the chamber pressure was increased. A comb actuator's operation characteristic was predicted depending on the anisotropy variations in RIE etching. Comb actuators with three different support beam structures were investigated : fixed-fixed, crab-leg, and double crab-leg. As the RIE etch anisotropy becomes non-ideal, i.e. the cross section becomes rather a trapezoidal than a rectangular shape, it decreases spring constant, resonant frequency and electrostatic force of a comb actuator but it increases the displacement of the mass. Among the three structures, the comb actuator with double crab-leg support beams is more influenced by anisotropy variation in RIE etch than other two.

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is one of ways to convert mechanical energy sound, waves, wind, vibrations, and human motions to available electrical energy. The principal mechanism to generate electrical energy is based on contact electrification on material surface and electrostatic induction between electrodes. The performance of TENG are dependent on amount of the input mechanical energy and characteristics of triboelectric materials. Furthermore, the whole TENG system including mechanical structure and electrical system can effect on output performance of TENG. In this work, we investigated the effect of gear train on output performance and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of TENG under a given input energy. We applied the gear train on mechanical structure to improve the contact rate. We measured the output energy under a constant input energy by controlling the size of the working gear. We prepared gears with gear ratios (rin/rw) of 1, 1.7, and 5. Under the constant input energy, the voltage and current from our gear-based TENG system were enhanced up to the maximum of 3.6 times and 4.4 times, respectively. Also, the PCE was increased up to 7 times at input frequency of 1.5 Hz. In order to understand the effect of kinematic design on TENG system, we performed a capacitor experiment with rectification circuit that provide DC voltage and current. Under the input frequency of 4.5 Hz, we obtained a 3 times enhanced rectifying voltage at a gear ratio of 5. The measured capacitor voltage was enhanced up to about 8 fold in using our TENG system. It is attributed that our gear-based TENG system could improve simultaneously the magnitude as well as the generation time of output power, finally enhancing output energy. Therefore, our gear-based TENG system provided an effective way to enhance the PCE of TENGs operating at a given input energy.
The impact of output conductance (go) on the short-circuit current-gain cut-off frequency (fT) in In0.8Ga0.2As high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) on an InP substrate was investigated. An attempted was made to extract the values of fT in a simplified small-signal model (SSM) of the HEMTs, derive an analytical formula for fT in terms of the extrinsic model parameters of the simplified SSM, which are related to the intrinsic model parameters of a general SSM, and verify its validity for devices with Lg from 260 to 25 nm. In long-channel devices, the effect of the intrinsic output conductance (goi) on fT was negligible. This was because, from the simplified SSM perspective, three model parameters, such as gm_ext, Cgs_ext and Cgd_ext, were weakly dependent on goi. However, in short-channel devices, goi was found to play a significant role in degrading fT as Lg was scaled down. The increase in goi in short-channel devices caused a considerable reduction in gm_ext and an overall increase in the total extrinsic gate capacitance, yielding a decrease in fT with goi. Finally, the results were used to infer how fT is influenced by goi in HEMTs, emphasizing that improving electrostatic integrity is also critical importance to benefit fully from scaling down Lg.

Conformal mapping is useful to solve problems in heat conduction, electrostatic potential and fluid flow involving Laplace's equation in two independent variables. Determinations of conformal maps from the unit disk onto a Jordan region eventually requires solving the Theodorsen equation which is in general nonlinear with respect to the boundary correspondence function. H bner's method which has been well known for the efficient method among the many suggestions for the Theodorsen equation, was improved in early study[1, 2]. In this paper Wegmann's method is treated that is more efficient in computation cost rather than H bner's. But we found that a question which is divergent in some difficult problems by numerical experiment of Wegmann's iteration. We analyze theoretically the cause of divergence and propose an improved method by applying a low frequency filter to the Wegmann's method. Numerical experiments by our improved method show convergence for all divergent problems by Wegmann's method.

This paper is focused on the improvement of reflection angle of an optical scanner by changing a shape of a torsion bar attached with an optical scanner reflector(mirror). In order to improve the light efficiency of the optical scanner by virtue of the magnetic effect, which tiny magnets are attached under both ends of the optical scanner reflector. and hence the optical scanner reflector was operated in relatively lower driving voltage. By changing the torsion bar's shape I type into S type, we've got the lower resonant frequency(32.5Hz) of an optical scanner than that of conventional one(50Hz). According to these results. The reflection angle of an optical scanner with magnets was much larger in the range of about 14.8$^{circ}$ without a magnet. By making use of a magnetic actuator instead of a conventional electrostatic actuator, the optical scanner was less influenced from outdoor dust or moisture.

In our previous study, it was proven that the mean size and the total number concentration of carbon soot particles emitted from a $C_2$H$_4$ normal diffusion flame decreased when a DC corona was discharged to pin-pin electrodes. In this work the effect of AC corona discharge on soot emission was investigated and compared with that of DC corona discharge. For the pin-pin electrodes the size of soot particles and the number concentration decreased by the AC voltage. There were only slight changes in size distribution with frequencies, while the magnitude of applied voltage was constant. When the electric field was applied to plate-plate electrodes, the size and the number concentration also decreased with the applied AC voltages. For applied voltages above 2kV the effect of frequency increase on the soot emission was effective.

This paper reports the enhanced fabrication and characterization of a $3{\times}3$ array tactile actuator composed of cellulose acetate. The array tactile actuator, with dimensions of $15{\times}15{\times}1mm^3$, consists of 9 pillar-supported cells made from a cellulose-acetate molding. The fabrication process and performance test along with the results for the suggested actuator are explained. To improve the cell-array fabrication, a laser cut was adopted after the molding process. The displacement of the unit cell increased the input voltage and frequency. Various top masses are added onto the actuator to mimic the touch force, and the acceleration of the actuator is measured under actuation. When 2 kV is applied to the actuator, the maximum acceleration is 0.64 g, which is above the vibrotactile threshold. The actuation mechanism is associated with the electrostatic force between the top and bottom electrodes.
