Design and analysis of the lens converting the spot light into the line light

  • A CCFL which commonly used in the back light units for the LCD, possess very high brightness hence, was widely used as a line light source. However, the use of CCFL, caused for several environmental concerns since it contain highly toxic mercury, gradually replaced into a LED. But the LED is a spot light source, the dark area occurs in the surface of the back light units. In this paper, we proposed the lens that can convert the spot light into the line light and it can remove the dark area in the surface of the back light units. The lens is composed with the light condensation part and the light guiding part. The conditions obtained will be helpful to plan an optimum structure for such preparation.

Battery State of Charge Balancing Based on Low Bandwidth Communication in DC Microgrid

  • This paper presents a load sharing method based on the low bandwidth communication (LBC) applied to a DC microgrid in order to balance the state of charge (SOC) of the battery units connected in parallel to the common bus. In this method, SOC of each battery unit is transferred to each other through LBC to calculate average SOC value. After that, droop coefficients of battery units are adjusted according to the difference between SOC of each unit and average SOC value of all batteries in the system. The proposed method can effectively balance the SOC of battery units in charging and discharging duration with a simple low bandwidth communication system.

  • This letter presents a power amplifier (PA) with an on-chip power detector for 2.4-GHz wireless local area network application. The power detector consists of a clamp circuit, a diode detector, and a coupled line directional coupler. A series inductor for an output matching network in the PA is combined with a through line of the coupler, which reduces the coupling level. Therefore, the coupler employs a metamaterial-based transformer configuration to increase coupling. The amount of coupling is increased by 2.5 dB in the 1:1 symmetric transformer structure and by 4.5 dB from two metamaterial units along the coupled line.

Gait event detection algorithm based on smart insoles

  • Gait analysis is an effective clinical tool across a wide range of applications. Recently, inertial measurement units have been extensively utilized for gait analysis. Effective gait analyses require good estimates of heel-strike and toe-off events. Previous studies have focused on the effective device position and type of triaxis direction to detect gait events. This study proposes an effective heel-strike and toe-off detection algorithm using a smart insole with inertial measurement units. This method detects heel-strike and toe-off events through a time-frequency analysis by limiting the range. To assess its performance, gait data for seven healthy male subjects during walking and running were acquired. The proposed heel-strike and toe-off detection algorithm yielded the largest error of 0.03 seconds for running toe-off events, and an average of 0-0.01 seconds for other gait tests. Novel gait analyses could be conducted without suffering from space limitations because gait parameters such as the cadence, stance phase time, swing phase time, single-support time, and double-support time can all be estimated using the proposed heel-strike and toe-off detection algorithm.

  • This paper is suggesting a new technology for refrigerant amount detection of a system air-conditioner installed under various installation conditions. System air-conditioner was introduced to domestic market first in 2000. It consists of one or a series of outdoor units and a number of indoor units connected with single pipe line to the outdoor unit. The system can vary the capacity from 2.0 kW to 186 kW. For the system Installed under long and high-elevated condition, about 100 kg of refrigerant is charged in the whole system. In this paper, the new technology RAD (Refrigerant Amount Detection) with edge technology of refrigerant cycle control and measurement of a system air conditioner was developed and investigated for its application for the various installation conditions.

  • There has been a great interest in printing technology as a low cost and mass production method for the application of printed electronics such as printed TFT, solar cell, RFID Tag, printed battery, and so on. In this study, apparatuses of gravure-offset printing are developed for fine line-width/gap printing and examining pattern distortion occurred in gravure-offset printing process. The fine line-width/gap pattern shows that it is possible to make around 20 micro-meter line-width/gap printing patterns. Pattern distortion is modeled, and the amount and shape of the distortion are calculated by using commercial FEM code. The roll-to-roll printing system under development consists of unwinder/rewinder, two printing units, one coating unit, drying units, guiding unit, vision system, and other auxiliary devices. For multi-layer printing, the system is designed to be capable of printing two different materials.

  • The heating and cooling performance of system multi-air conditioner under high-head and long-line conditions are experimentally investigated. The maximum head and tube length were 110 m and 1000 m, respectively. The experimental system was composed of 4 outdoor units with module systems, and 13 indoor units which were joined with the mode change unit by single-tube circuit. Field tests without indoor and outdoor temperature control were performed in a general office building with 22 different working conditions. Experimental results were prepared on the p-h diagram. Also the oil level in the compressor was normally maintained at the safety zone for the system multi-air conditioner with high-head and long-line conditions.

모바일 3D 그래픽 프로세서의 지오메트리 연산을 위한 부동 소수점 연산기 구현 (A design of Floating Point Arithmetic Unit for Geometry Operation of Mobile 3D Graphic Processor)

  • We propose floating point arithmetic units for geometry operation of mobile 3D graphic processor. The proposed arithmetic units conform to the single precision format of IEEE standard 754-1985 that is a standard of floating point arithmetic. The rounding algorithm applies the nearest toward zero form. The proposed adder/subtraction unit and multiplier have one clock cycle latency, and the inversion unit has three clock cycle latency. We estimate the required numbers of arithmetic operation for Viewing transformation. The first stage of geometry operation is composed with translation, rotation and scaling operation. The translation operation requires three addition and the rotation operation needs three addition and six multiplication. The scaling operation requires three multiplication. The viewing transformation is performed in 15 clock cycles. If the adder and the multiplier have their own in/out ports, the viewing transformation can be done in 9 clock cycles. The error margin of proposed arithmetic units is smaller than $10^{-5}$ that is the request in the OpenGL standard. The proposed arithmetic units carry out operations in 100MHz clock frequency.

  • Unlike household refrigerators, commercial refrigerators are composed of separate indoor and outdoor units. The outdoor unit of most commercial refrigerators is designed to run at a fixed speed, which results in low energy efficiency and loud fan noise. Moreover, it cannot respond flexibly to changing thermal load in the indoor unit. Inverter type outdoor units can address such problems through speed changes based on information obtained from the indoor unit. However, using two units from different manufacturers is often not a viable solution. If condition changes in the indoor unit can be detected without communication between the two units, it is possible to adjust the speed of the outdoor unit. This paper attempts to analyze the signal from the outdoor unit when the condition of the indoor unit changes by varying the thermal load.
