  • Using the extensional vibration mode of PZT ring, a piezopump is successfully made. The PZT ring is polarized with thickness direction. The traveling extensional wave along the circumference of the ring is obtained by dividing two standing waves which are temporally and spatially phase shifted by 90 degrees from each other. The proposed piezopump is consisted of coaxial cylindrical shells that are bonded piezoelectric ceramic ring.

  • Modal properties of guided waves along circular dispersive double negative (DNG) index metamaterial rod waveguides are numerically investigated. Identical forms of dispersive dielectric and magnetic material constants are used for simplicity. For degenerated azimuthally symmetric mode, a multimode region, a single mode region, a band gap region and a forbidden region are found which cannot be observed in the case of the conventional dielectric rod waveguide. As the normalized frequency goes down, discrete guided modes are continuously generated, which is a reverse property of conventional dielectric rod waveguide. Also, there are high-frequency cutoffs, which have been generally examined in dispersive circular geometries such as a plasma column or a plasma Goubau line. In the single mode region, both the low- and high-frequency cutoffs are existed where the propagation constants are continued between the guided oscillating and surface modes.

  • In the case of a heat exchanger, scale is made in the tube by the chemical reactions of Ca and Mg ions contained in the water, and heat transfer rate is reduced because of increment of heat resistance in the pipe of the heat flow. Thus it brings to reduce the energy efficiency and to make environmental pollution by the use of chemicals for the prevention and removement of scale. In this paper, we discussed the design of electronic generator for ultrasonic scale preventor and analyzed the fundamental characteristic for ultrasonic transducer.

  • With the rapid advance of electronic equipments and the frequent, use of them, the electromagnetic environments including EMC or EMI problems are very complicated. The radiation of electromagnetic waves from electronic equipments has strictly been controlled by the authorities concerned from many years ago. Though it is the most proper to test EMI or EMC in the open area test site, we have used the anechoic chamber in place of the test site because of its various restrictions. To achieve the purpose, in this paper, the performances of a few anechoic chambers according to absorbing materials are analyzed for horizontal and vertical polarizations respectively. Furthermore, the calculated and the measured site attenuations in semi-anechoic chamber made with ferrite grid are compared. The obtained results are to be valuable for designing an anechoic chamber.

  • Various types of switching inverters such as a full-bridge, a half bridge, a push-pull, and a multi-vibrator, are introduced for multi-lamps backlighting with EEFLs and CCFLs. Synchronizing the phase between voltage and current waves, a high luminance and a high efficiency have been achieved.

  • One of the main techniques or diagnosing heart disease is by examining the electrocardiogram(ECG). Many studies on detecting the QRS complex, P, and T waves have been performed because meaningful information is contained in these parameters. However, the earlier detecting techniques can not effectively extract those parameters from the ECG that is severely contaminated by noise source such 60Hz powerline interference, motion artifact and baseline drift. in this paper, we performed the extracting parameters from and recovering the ECG signal using wavelet transform that has recently been applying to various fields.

  • Magnitudes of Magnetic field, Electronic field and Microwave was measured during the each stage of flight in the airline operation. The results was much higher than the safety standard and proved to be serious to the cockpit crews on their duty. We also identified that the magnitude of electronic field was much decreased by all three kinds of microwave protection equipments. We recommend that the cockpit crew have to wear the protection clothes to reduce the hazardous effects on their duty and the aircraft manufacturers have to consider the microwave-reduced cockpit in the initial stage of aircraft design.

  • In this paper, the electromagnetic shielding performance of a BiMODAL Tram is investigated by means of an electromagnetic analysis tool, called HFSS. For the purposed of doing this, first, three-dimensional finite element modeling for the tram including electronic devices and engine room is carried out. Then, for quantitatively assessing the electromagnetic shielding performance of the tram's body, concentration indexes for electric field magnitude and time-average stored electric energy are introduced. From numerical results, it is inferred that the tram's body can protect the electronic devices and engine room against external electromagnetic waves from 30 MHz to 100 MHz.

  • Poroelasticity theory has been widely used for detecting cancellous bone deterioration because of the safe use for humans. The tortuosity itself is an important indicator for ultrasound detection for bone diseases. The transport properties of cancellous bone are also important in bone mechanotransduction. In this paper, two important factors, the wave velocity and attenuation are examined for permeability (or tortuosity). The theoretical calculation for the relationship between the wave velocity (and attenuation) and permeability (or tortuosity) for cancellous bone is shown in this study. It is found that the wave along the solid phase (trabecular struts) is influenced not by tortuosity, but the wave along the fluid wave (bone fluid phase) is affected by tortuosity significantly. However, the attenuation is different that the attenuation of a fast wave has less influence than that of a slow wave because the slow wave is observed by the relative motion between the solid and fluid phases.

  • This paper presents an omni-directional piezoelectric actuator which utilizes only one actuator. The actuator has a simple structure of cone type consists of two piezoelectric ceramics of ring type and electrodes divided four segments and a stainless steel body. To find the optimal operating condition of the actuator, the frequency characteristics of the actuator are analyzed by ATILA, FEM and measured by Impedance Analyzer. We have also developed a stage using the omni-directional actuator and an actuator driver circuit to create four sinusoidal waves with a variable frequency and phase difference.
