Failure mechanisms of electron beam physical vapor deposited thermal barrier coatings(EB-PVD TBCs) that occur during thermal cyclic oxidation were investigated. The investigations include microstructural degradation of NiCrAIY bond coat, thermally grown oxides(TGOs) along the ceramic top coat-substrate interface and fracture path within TBCs. The microstructural degradation of the bond coat during cyclic oxidation created Al depleted zones, resulting in reduction of NiAl and ${\gamma}$-Ni solid solution phase. It was observed that the fracture took placed primarily within the TGOs or at the interfaces between TGOs and bond coat.

A prerequisite for the development of graphene-based field effect transistors (FETs) is reliable control of the type and concentration of carriers in graphene. These parameters can be manipulated via the deposition of atoms, molecules, and polymers onto graphene as a result of charge transfer that takes place between the graphene and adsorbates. In this work, we demonstrate a unique and facile methodology for the homogenous and stable p-type doping of graphene by hybridization with ZnO thin films fabricated by MeV electron beam irradiation (MEBI) under ambient conditions. The formation of the ZnO/graphene hybrid nanostructure was attributed to MEBI-stimulated dissociation of zinc acetate dihydrate and a subsequent oxidation process. A ZnO thin film with an ultra-flat surface and uniform thickness was formed on graphene. We found that homogeneous and stable p-type doping was achieved by charge transfer from the graphene to the ZnO film.

SnO2 30/Ag 15/SnO2 30 nm(SAS) tri-layer films were deposited on the glass substrates with RF and DC magnetron sputtering and then electron beam is irradiated on the surface to investigate the effect of electron bombardment on the opto-electrical performance of the films. electron beam irradiated tri-layer films at 1000 eV show a higher figure of merit of 2.72×10-3 Ω-1 than the as deposited films due to a high visible light transmittance of 72.1% and a low sheet resistance of 14.0 Ω/☐, respectively. From the observed results, it is concluded that the post-deposition electron irradiated SnO2 30/Ag 15/SnO2 30 nm tri-layer films can be used as a substitute for conventional transparent conducting oxide films in various opto-electrical applications.
Carbon tips were grown on Si cantilevers by applying an electron beam to them directly with Scanning Electron Microscope. A carbon tip was fabricated by aligning the electron beam directly down the vertical axis of Si cantilever and then irradiating a single spot on the cantilever for a proper time in the dominant atmosphere of residual gases generated by the oil of the diffusion pump. A number of control parameters for SEM, including exposure time, acceleration voltage, emission current, and beam probe current, were allowed to make various aspect ratio feature. The growth of carbon tips was not affected by the surface morphology of substrates. We could acquired the tip whose effective length is 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$, bottom diameter is 90 nm and cone half angle $3.5^{\circ}$ The growth technique of the high aspect ratio carbon tips on the tip-free cantilevers is available to reduce the complexities of fabricating sub-micron scale tips on the PZT thin film actuator integrated AFM cantilevers.

We report our development of the fabrication process of sub-micron scale $Al-AlO_x-Al$ tunnel junction by using electron-beam lithography and double-angle shadow evaporation technique. We used double-layer resist to construct a suspended bridge structure, and double-angle electron-beam evaporation to form a sub-micron scale overlapped junction. We adopted an e-beam insensitive resist as a bottom sacrificing layer. Tunnel barrier was formed by oxidation of the bottom aluminum layer between the bottom and top electrode deposition, which was done in a separate load-lock chamber. The junction resistance is designed and controlled to be 50 $\Omega$ to match the impedance of the transmission line. The junctions will be used in the broadband shot noise thermometry experiment, which will serve as a link between the electrical unit and the thermodynamic unit.

In this paper, we investigated the characterization of silicon oxide(SiOx) thin film on Ethylene Terephthalate(PET) substrates by e-beam deposition for transparent barrier application. The temperature of chamber increases from $30^{\circ}C$ to $110^{\circ}C$, the roughness increase while the Water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) decreases. Under these conditions, the WVTR for PET can be reduced from a level of $0.57 g/m^2/day$ (bare subtrate) to $0.05 g/m^2/day$ after application of a 200-nm-thick $SiO_2$ coating at 110 C. A more efficient way to improve permeation of PET was carried out by using a double side coating of a 5-${\mu}m$-thick parylene film. It was found that the WVTR can be reduced to a level of $-0.2 g/m^2/day$. The double side parylene coating on PET could contribute to the lower stress of oxide film, which greatly improves the WVTR data. These results indicates that the $SiO_2$ /Parylene/PET barrier coatings have high potential for flexible organic light-emitting diode(OLED) applications.
Indium-tin oxide (ITO) films were deposited on the glass substrate by the reactive -ionized cluster beam deposition(ICBD) method. In the oxygen atmosphere, indium cluster formed through the nozzle is ionized by the electron bombardment and is accelerated to be deposited on the substrate. And tin is simultaneoulsy evaporated from the boron-nitride crucible. The chracteristics of films were examined by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), glancing angle X-ray diffractrion(GXRD) and the electrical properties. were measured by 4-point-probe and Hall effect measurement system . From the XPS spectrum , it was found that indium and tin atoms combined with the oxygen to form oxide$(In_2O_3, SnO_2)$. In the case of films with high tin-concentration, the GXRD spectra show that the main $In_2O_3$ peak of (222) plane, but also sub peaks((440) peak etc.) and $SnO_2$ peaks were detected. From that results, itis concluded that the heavily dopped tin component (more than 14 at. %) disturbs to form $In_2O_3$(222) phase. Four-point-probe and Hall effect measurement show that, in the most desirable case, the transmittance of the films is more then 90% in visible range and its resistivity is $$\rho$=3.55 \times10^{-4}\Omega$cm and its mobility is $\mu$=42.8 $\textrm{cm}^2$/Vsec.
Epitaxial undoped and Sb-doped si films have been grown on Si(001) substrates at temperatures T between 80 and 750$^{\circ}C$ using energetic Si in ultra-high-vacuum Kr+-ion-beam sputter deposition(IBSD). Critical epitaxial thicknesses te, The average thickness of epitaxial layers, in undoped films were found to range from 8nm at Ts=80$^{\circ}C$ to > 1.2 ${\mu}$m at Ts=300$^{\circ}C$ while Sb incorporation probabilities $\sigma$sb varied from unity at Ts 550$^{\circ}C$ to 0.1 at 750$^{\circ}C$. These te and $\sigma$Sb values are approximately one and one-to-three orders of magnitude, respectively, higher than reported results achieved with molecular-beam epitaxy. Plan-view and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution x-ray diffraction, channeling and axial angular-yield profiles by Rutherford back scattering spectroscopy for epitaxial Si1-x Gex(001) alloy films (0.15$\leq$x$\leq$0.30) demonstrated that the films are of extremely high crystalline quality. critical layer thicknesses hc the film thickness where strain relaxation starts, I these alloys wre found to increase rapidly with decreasing growth temperature. For Si0.70 Ge0.30, hc ranged from 35nm at Ts=550$^{\circ}C$ to 650nm at 350$^{\circ}C$ compared to an equilibrium value of 8nm.

Electron beam physical vapor deposition (EBPVD) is a conventional method to fabricate thermal barrier coating (TBC) of high temperature airfoil engine parts, such as blade etc. for its high temperature structural stability from the nature of columnar growth behavior. For the high quality of TBC by EBPVD, the structural factors, such as growth behavior, thickness uniformity and so on, should be managed to obtain the coating which satisfied the required specifications of usable level of mechanical and thermal properties. In this study, the growth behavior and structure variations of 7YSZ (7 wt% yttria stabilized zirconia) coatings with different configurational deposition parameters for the specimens which have turbine blade shape mock-up were investigated. Growth behavior of coatings were studied by comparing computational modeling of evaporation behavior with actual deposition process using e-beam source.
