  • Electron transport properties are investigated by Monte Carlo simulation in n-HgCdTe. The material is easily degenerated at low temperature or being slightly doped, and is characterized by small band gap and large nonparabolic factor. The degeneracy is incorporated in the Monte Carlo simulation by taking into account the electron-electron scattering and the pauli exclusion principle. In the conventional method, however, the electron-electron scattering rate was developed under the assumption of parabolic conduction band. A new formulation of the electron-electron scattering rate is develop considering the band nonparabolicity and overlap integral. The electron-electron scattering effects on the electron distribution, impact ionization coefficienty, electron temperature, drift velocity and electron energy are presented.

  • This paper presents one and two dimensional simulation results with discontinuous features (shocks) of capacitively coupled rf plasmas. The model consists of the first two and three moments of the Boltzmann equation for the ion and electron fluids respectively, coupled to Poisson's equation for the self-consistent electric field. The local field and drift-diffusion approximations are not employed, and as a result the charged species conservation equations are hyperbolic in nature. Hyperbolic equations may develop discontinuous solutions even if their initial conditions are smooth. Indeed, in this work, secondary electron emission is shown to produce transient electron shock waves. These shocks form at the boundary between the cathodic sheath (CS) and the quasi-neutral (QN) bulk region. In the CS, the electrons emitted from the electrode are accelerated to supersonic velocities due to the large electric field. On the other hand, in the QN the electric field is not significant and electrons have small directed velocities. Therefore, at the transition between these regions, the electron fluid decelerates from a supersonic to a subsonic velocity in the direction of flow and a jump in the electron velocity develops. The presented numerical results are consistent with both experimental observations and kinetic simulations.

  • The electron transport characteristics in $SF_6$ gas is calculated for range of E/N values from 150 -800(Td) by the Monte Carlo simulation using a set of electron collision cross sections determined by the authors. The results suggest that the value of an electron swarm parameter such as the electron drift velocity, the electron ionization or attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients in nearly agreement with the respective experimental and theoretical for a range of E/N. The electron energy distributions function were analysed in sulphur hexaflouride at E/N:500 and 800(Td) for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy. The validity of the results obtained has been confirmed by a Time of Flight method also investigated as a set of electron collision cross section for sulphur Hexaflouride.

  • Pure Xe, Kr and Ne atoms and Mixures of Xe-Ne used in fluorescent induction lamps(FILs). However standard regulation of FILs is not made up until now. Therefore, the electron transport coefficients, the electron drift velocity W, the longitudinal diffusion coefficient NDL and the ionization coefficient $\alpha$/N in pure Xe, Kr, Ne gases and Xe-Ne mixtures(1:9, 5:5, 7:3) were calculated over the wide E/N range from 0.01 to 500 Td at 1 Torr by two-term approximation of the Boltzman equation.

  • The electron swarm drift velocity for nitrogen gas is calculated in the range of 4 - 240 [Td] (1 Td = $10^{-17}V{\cdot}cm^2$). The result is in good agreement with the data measured by the time-of-flight method in the previous study. Also, an accurate and efficient method for solving the electron swarm parameters in gases is described.

  • This paper describes the electron transport characteristics in $SF_6$-He gas calculated E/N values 0.1~700[Td] by the Monte Carlo simulation and Boltzmann equation method using a set of electron collision cross sections determined by the authors and the values of electron swarm parameters obtained by TOF method. This study gained the values of the electron swarm parameters such as the electron drift velocity, the electron ionization or attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients for $SF_6$-He gas at a range of E/N. A set of electron collision cross section has been assembled and used in Monte Carlo simulation to predict values of swarm parameters. The result of Boltzmann equation and Monte Carlo Simulation has been compared with experimental data by Ohmori, Lucas and Carter. The swarm parameter from the swarm study are expected to sever as a critical test of current theories of low energy scattering by atoms and molecules.
