Probing inside of concrete structures is one of the important steps in assessing condition of the structure. For the assessment, electromagnetic induction method and electromagnetic wave method are currently applied to the measurement of cover depth, and the detection of reinforcement embedded in concrete. To determine detection capability of locating reinforcement embedded in concrete, commercially available nondestructive testing (NDT) equipments have been tested. The equipments include electromagnetic wave system and electromagnetic induction system. In the tests, nine concrete specimens which have the dimensions of 1,000mm(length))${\times}$300mm(width) with thickness varying from 125mm to 150mm are used. The reinforcement are located at 45, 60, 100mm depth from the concrete surface. Horizontal reinforcement spacing has been set over 100mm. From the outcome, it is shown that error is increased as the diameter of reinforcement enlarge in case of using electromagnetic induction method. In case of using electromagnetic wave method, the detection of reinforcement embedded in deep is good in the view of reliability because of using the relative permittivity on the real cover depth.

A comprehensive thermo-electromagnetic model has been developed to estimate temperature and electromagnetic distribution in an three-phase induction motor under steady state operation. Electromagnetic modeling enables us to predict thermal dissipation rates by eddy-current loss and copper loss in induction motors. Non-uniform temperature distributions are investigated to account for the strong effect of local temperature build-up on the motor performance and expected life-span. For more accurate thermal modeling purpose, Heat loss mapping method, which is matched up with electromagnetic losses and volumetric heat source, is developed and performed analysis. Heat loss mapping method can be greatly used as a design or diagnostic tool for three-phase induction motors with complex structural electromagnetic fields.

This paper presents a general analytical method for analyzing mechanical unbalance response of unbalanced electromagnetic forces produced in induction motors with an eccentric rotor and a phase unbalance. The equations to be solved are a set of second order differential equations which give matrices with periodic coefficients that are a function of time due to the unbalanced electro-magnetic force. Unbalance response is processed by Newmark $\beta$ method. Two examples are given including an industrial application. The results show that the method proposed is satisfactory.
Induction motors have wide applicability in many fields, both in industrial sectors and households, for their advantages of a high efficiency and robust structure. The introduction of power-source-containing harmonics into the induction motor winding lowers its efficiency and increases its temperature, greatly affecting its operation characteristics. In this study, we performed an electromagnetic field analysis using the time-difference finite-element method with the purpose of analyzing the steady-state current characteristics of an induction motor. Additionally, we calculated the steady-state current with a method combining an electromagnetic field equation and a circuit equation. In the electromagnetic field analysis, the nonlinearity was taken into account using the Newton-Raphson method, and a backward time-difference method was employed for the time derivative term. Then, we compared the steady-state current of the induction motor obtained by calculation with the experimentally measured values, thus validating the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we analyzed the impacts of the shape and material of the rotor conductor bar of the induction motor on the steady-state current of the main winding.
This paper presents a general analytical method for analyzing the instability of unbalanced electromagnetic forces produced in induction motors with an eccentric rotor. The equations to be solved are a set of second order differential equations which give matrices with periodic coefficients that are a function of time due to the unbalanced electromagnetic force. The method is based on an extension of the Floquet theory. A transfer matrix over one period of the motion is obtained. and the stability of the system can be determined with the eigenvalues of the matrix. The analysis results of instability zone were coincided upon comparing that of transfer matrix method with that of rotating frame. Two examples are given. including an industrial application. The results show that the method proposed is satisfactory.

This paper presents the characteristics analysis of electromagnetic pump using linear induction motors. The electromagnetic pump is designed to transfer the molten metals by the electromagnetic force of linear induction motors. The characteristics f a linear induction motor are analysed by the equivalent circuit method considering the end effects. For the verification of the analysis method, the locked test and load test with molten tin were made. The test results of locked test were compared with the simulations, and the velocity of the load test with molten zinc showed 0.24[m/x] with air gap 30[gap] which is sufficient for transferring molten tin.

High-frequency induction is an efficient way to heat mold surface by electromagnetic induction in a non-contact procedure. Though the induction heating has an advantage in terms of its rapid-heating capacity on the mold surface, it still has a restriction on mold temperature control due to geometric restriction of an induction coil according to the mold shape. It has been recently applied to the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. For localized induction heating, an injection mold composed of ferromagnetic material and paramagnetic material is used. The electromagnetic induction concentrates on the ferromagnetic material, from which we can selectively heat for the local mold elements. The present study proposed a localized induction heating method by means of selective use of mold material. The feasibility of the proposed heating method is investigated through the comparison of experimental observations according to the mold material.

The durability and safety of reinforced concrete structures significantly depend on the reinforcement conditions, concrete cover thickness, cracks, and concrete strength. There are two ways to accurately determine the information on reinforcing bars embedded in concrete - the local destructive method and the non-destructive rebar detection test. In general, the non-destructive rebar detection tests, such as the electromagnetic wave radar method, electromagnetic induction method, and radiation method, are adopted to avoid damage to the structural elements. The moisture content and temperature of concrete affect the dielectric constant, which is the electrical property of concrete, and cause interference in the non-destructive rebar detection test results. Therefore, in this study, the effects of the electromagnetic wave radar method and electromagnetic induction method have been analyzed according to the temperature and surface moisture content of concrete. Due to the technological advancement and development of equipment, the average error rate was less than 5% in the specimens at 24℃, irrespective of their operating principles. Among the tested methods, the electromagnetic induction method showed very high accuracy. The electromagnetic wave radar method indicated a relatively small error rate in the dry state than in the wet state, and exhibited a relatively high error rate at high temperatures. It was confirmed that the error could be reduced by applying the electromagnetic wave radar method when the temperature of the probe was low and in a dry state, and by using the electromagnetic induction method when the probe was in a wet state or at a high temperature.

The TR forging is a kind of continuous grain flow forging. The preform of crank shaft for TR forging process was a round bar with a ring groove. In the first stage, the preform was partly heated by induction heating and then forged by vertical and horizontal force in sequence. In this study, the simulation process of induction heating was proposed to evaluate the temperature distribution of preform for TR forging. The equivalent circuit method was adopted to find coil current of the preform with a various dimensions and power levels. With these results, the coupled electromagnetic and transient thermal analysis for induction heating was performed to evaluate the temperature distribution at the preform of crank shaft during induction heating process. This FE analysis technique with equivalent circuit method was verified by comparing the analysis results with the experimental results.

The calculation method of induction voltage is abbreviately by the Ohm's law including Carson-Pollaczek's equation for mutual inductance estimation and various shielding effect coefficients. This method is mainly scoped to 60㎐. power source and the inducing/induced object positioned on the air, and the dimension of shielding material is not thoroughly reflected. In this paper, more general method of calculation is scrutinized through electromagnetic wave propagation principles. Electromagnetic force as a voltage in the spot generating from the source is evaluated according to the position of the source and object, especially their relationship with earth surface as boundary line and independent to source propagation frequency. And this method intends to consider the material specification of each object in the induction field.
