  • This paper introduces development process and results of HF & UHF band(13.56 MHz, 920 MHz) tag antennas using a single-side printing method on a PE film. The size of tag antenna is designed in the area of $80mm{\times}50mm$, little bit smaller than a credit card. The UHF tag antenna, $76mm{\times}44mm$, is located at the outside of the card size tag antenna, and the HF tag antenna, $40 mm{\times}42 mm$, is located at the center of the UHF tag antenna. The UHF and HF tag antennas are designed with consideration of coupling effects. The single-side printing method with a jumper structure without using a via is used to make a loop antenna of HF tag antenna. The reading range of UHF tag antenna is about 6m, and the reading of HF tag antenna is about 5 cm. The designed tag antennas have long enough reading ranges for both bands. The tag is applicable to logistics and authentification.

  • The scattering parameters of a microstrip single line, a right-angle bend and a coupled line are calculated using the multiport network model for the frequency range from 1 to 18 GHz. The single line is analyzed using the planar waveguide model. The right-angle bend is broken into two rectangular segments, and each segment is analyzed in a similar fashion as the single line. Impedance matrices corresponding to the two segments are combined by the segmentation method. In the analysis of elec- tromagnetic coupling of the coupled line, a new method is employed resulting in much less computation time than those previous methods involving Green's functions. A good agreement between the numerical results for the three structures and those from SuperCompact reveals the usefulness of the multiport network medel in analyzing complicated mirostrip single and coupled line discontinuities.

  • In this paper, the coupled microstrip lines of hairpin type are applied to design a compact microstrip ring hybrid. When the gap decreases, three attenuation poles are created by coupling between the lines. The proposed structure can achieve a significant reduction of size and suppression of the harmonics. And it has the same frequency responses of conventional ring hybrid at 2.55 GHz. The harmonics are suppressed to below -20 dB up to 12 GHz, including the third harmonic. The ring part size of the proposed ring hybrid is reduced to one forth of the conventional ring hybrid. The measured frequency responses agree well with simulated ones.

  • In this paper, the proposed package antenna, which is meander line structure with short pin, is miniaturized to realize RF-SoP at 900 MHz RFID band. The RFID BGA(Ball Grid Array) chip is put in a cavity of LTCC Layers. The coupling and cross talk, which are happen between BGA chip and proposed package antenna, are reduced by faraday cage, which consists of ground and via fences, is realized to enhance the isolation between BGA chip and antenna. The proposed antenna structure is focused on the package level antenna realization at low frequency band. The novel proposed package antenna size is $13mm{\times}9mm{\times}3.51mm$. The measured resonance frequency is 0.893 GHz. The impedance bandwidth is 9 MHz. The maximum gain of radiation pattern is -2.36 dBi.

  • This paper presents a compact bluetooth/WiFi dual-mode dual-band RF front-end module(FEM) is realized by low temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) technology. The proposed RF front-end module consists of a diplexer, baluns in the LTCC substrate, and an SPDT switch, an SP3T switch on the LTCC substrate. In order to reduce the module size and increase integration level, the proposed diplexer and balun are designed using LC lumped elements. The parasitic elements caused by coupling effect between metal pattern layers and ground plane layer are considered during the design. The fabricated dual-mode RF front-end module has 13 pattern layers including three inner ground layers and it occupies less than $3.0mm{\times}3.7mm{\times}0.66mm$.

  • A branch-line hybrid using microstrip artificial transmission lines(ATLs) with slotted-triangular patches is proposed. The proposed artificial transmission line is compact in structure as well as easy to adjust the characteristic impedance and electrical length of equivalent transmission line by changing the slot's parameters; hence, it is useful for miniaturizing conventional transmission lines. The designed branch-line hybrid, because of the use of the right angled isosceles triangular shaped artificial transmission lines as building blocks, has no useless empty space, and hence optimally miniaturized. A fabricated 3 dB branch-line hybrid shows the coupling variation of ${\pm}0.5$ dB and the phase difference between two output ports of $91^{\circ}{\pm}4^{\circ}$ within 15 % bandwidth at 2.45 GHz center frequency. The size of proposed branch-line hybrid is only 38% of the conventional branch-line hybrid.

  • This paper introduces the development of HF(NFC) and UHF band(13.56 MHz, 920 MHz) tag antennas, imbedded in a box. In dual band antennas, the HF band tag can be used to inspect the box using NFC, and the UHF band tag can be used for logistics. The dielectric constant of the box material is measured and used for simulation. The Ntag213 chip manufactured by NXP is used in HF loop antennas, since NFC is possible with Ntag213. For the UHF band, the Higgs-3 chip manufactured by Alien is used. The HF tag antenna is located at the center of the UHF tag antenna, and the location of the HF tag antenna is calculated while considering coupling effects. The designed tag can be used by both the bands for the purposes of logistics and authentication.

  • In this paper, a gelatin layer was formed on the surface of the twisted fiber-optic couplers fabricated by hydrofluoric acid, which can be used to measure relative humidity. The proposed method of sensors has advantage of low cost compared with the sensors based on the conventional electronic devices and takes beneficial characteristics of optical fibers and light. The fiber-optic sensors presented in this study show a measurement from about 40% to 85% relative humidity, and the experimental results agree well with the calculated results. Based on the design presented in this paper, the structure will enable promising applications in the detecting humidity and various hazardous gases.

  • A generator-grid coupling calculation model is established to study the leading-phase operational capability of a 770 MW jumbo hydro-generator in a Chinese ultra-mega hydropower station. The static and dynamic stability of the generator are analyzed and calculated to obtain stability limits under leading-phase operating conditions. Three-dimensional (3D) time-varying nonlinear moving electromagnetic and temperature field models of the generator end-region are also established and used to determine the magnetic field, loss, and temperature of the end-region under the leading-phase operating condition. The simulation results agree with data measured from the actual 770 MW hydro-generator. This paper provides reliable reference data for the leading-phase operation of a jumbo hydro-generator, which will help to improve in the design and manufacture of future hydro-generators.
