Dosimetry for Resonance-Based Wireless Power Transfer Charging of Electric Vehicles

  • This paper presents the dosimetry of a resonance-based wireless power transfer (RBWPT) system for electric vehicles applications. The compact RBWPT system is designed to transfer power at 150-mm distance. The electric and magnetic fields generated by the RBWPT system and the specific absorption rate in the human body model, which stands around the system, are calculated. These analyses are conducted in two cases: the alignment and the misalignment between the transmitter and the receiver. The matching loops are adjusted to maximize the power transfer efficiency of the RBWPT system for the misalignment condition. When the two cases were compared for the best power transfer efficiency, the specific absorption rates (SAR) in the misalignment case were larger than those in the alignment case. The dosimetric results are discussed in relation to the international safety guidelines.

Phone Case using the EBG Structure for Reducing SAR (EBG 구조를 사용한 전자파 인체 흡수 차단 휴대폰 케이스)

  • This paper investigates the performance of phone case with different permittivities like plastic, urethane and silicone. Then, we put an electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure in phone case to reduce the specific absorption rate (SAR). In order to design the phone case, a loop antenna for PCS 1900 band was used. The phone case consists of a hairpin-like EBG structure that is more compact than other EBG structures. The SEMCAD X fdtd simulation results showed that, this proposed phone case can reduce SAR by 13 - 30% at similar power that is radiated by the antenna. This phone case can be used in future to reduce the SAR from mobile phones.

  • There is a growing demend for absorptive electromagentic shielding materials for wide band frequency application. In this study, the absorber which consists of a rubber plus Ni-Zn ferrite which have been prepared by direct-wet method. A rubber ferrite composite for electromagnetic shielding, it is most importan facter the homogeneous ultra fine size and high dispersitive ferrite powder. Direct-wet method and solid-solid reaction method for preparing of ultra fine ferrite powder was used. It has been experimentally verified that the powder which prepared by direct-wet method was very fine and almost same size spherical powder, the composite ferrite have excellent electromagnetic wave absorption in X-band.

  • This paper presents a modified quasi-static approximate solution derived from the Maxwell's equations of integral form for the calculation of magnetic shielding effectiveness in a non-uniform enclosure such as metal-clad high-voltage test laboratory. It also describes the simplified relationship between the electrical parameters applicable to the engineering calculations of electromagnetic absorption loss which comprise the resultant effects due to the welding seams and short-circuited slots as well as the shielding material properties. A numerical example shows the fairly good agreements with experimental results measured on the absorption loss vs. incident wave frequency without any unreasonable rapid increase.

  • In this experimentation, we investigated the characteristics of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite. Ferroxplana was prepared by flux method at low temperature. The crystallization, magnetic properties and particle morphology of the obtained ferroxplana powder were investigated by using XRD, VSM and SEM. The particle size of ferroxplana powder was 2∼4$\mu\textrm{m}$ at the ratio of R=26, The coercivity and saturation magnetization of ferroxplana powder increased slightly with increase of temperature, The magnetic loss was the main factor of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite, The maximum reflection loss of composite was about -l5dB below 4GHz.

  • In this paper, we investigated EM wave absorption property of EM wave absorbers prepared with sendust. The EM wave absorbers have good EM wave absorption properties in 1 GHz ${\sim}$ 3 GHz. On the other hand, the absorption band of the EM wave absorber coated with $Al(OH)_3$ larger than non-coated one. Pulverization effect of sendust on EM wave absorption properties was also investigated.

A Study on Absorption Properties of the EM Wave Absorber Using TiO2 in W-band

  • In this paper, the electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers using TiO2 as a dielectric material with chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) were investigated in W-band radio frequencies. We compared the relative permittivity with reflectionless curve and the absorption properties of samples containing 40 wt.%, 50 wt.%, 60 wt.%, 70 wt.%, and 80 wt.% TiO2. It is possible to realize a complex relative permittivity satisfying the reflectionless condition by choosing composition ratio of TiO2. The optimized composition ratio of TiO2 for the maximum absorption property is about 70 wt.%. As a result, we have confirmed the realization of an EM wave absorber with a high absorption property in W-band radio frequencies.

Ultrathin Metamaterial for Polarization Independent Perfect Absorption and Band-pass Filter

  • We demonstrate an ultrathin metamaterial for polarization independent perfect absorption as well as a band-pass filter (BPF) which works at a higher frequency band compared to the perfect absorption band. The planar metamaterial is comprised of three layers, symmetric split ring resonators (SSRRs) at the front and structured ground plane (SGP) at the back separated by a dielectric layer. The perfect metamaterial absorber (MA) can realize near 100% absorption due to high electromagnetic losses from the electric and/or magnetic resonances within a certain frequency band. The thickness of the structure is only 1/28 of the maximum absorption wavelength.

  • In this paper, a compact common mode filter using passive elements is designed and fabricated. To design a common mode filter with required frequency response, the equivalent circuits of the common mode filter in differential mode and common mode were analyzed. Compared with the former filter using a ${\lambda}/4$ resonator, the size of the proposed structure was reduced by 60 %. The fabricated common mode filter has a maximum differential mode insertion loss of 1.2 dB and a minimum common mode absorption efficiency of 78.2% in the CMA - bandwidth of 27.5 %.

Iron oxide nanopowder synthesized by electroerosion dispersion (EED) - Properties and potential for microwave applications

  • Magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) have attracted considerable interest in many fields of research and applied science due to their impressive properties. In the past, especially biomedical problems have promoted the development of MNPs. For technical applications e.g. wastewater treatment and absorption of electromagnetic waves, the existing synthesis approaches are too expensive and/or the producible quantities are too low. In this work we present a method for simple preparation of size-controlled magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles by electroerosion dispersion (EED) of carbon steel in water. We describe the synthesis method, the laboratory installation and discuss the structural, chemical and electromagnetic properties of the synthetized EED powders as well as their applicability for microwave absorption compared to other available ferrite powders.
