Fabrication of Electro-active Polymer Actuator Based on Transparent Graphene Electrode

  • The ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC), a type of electro-active polymer material, has received enormous interest in various fields such as robotics, medical sensors, artificial muscles because it has many advantages of flexibility, light weight, high displacement, and low voltage activation, compare to traditional mechanical actuators. Mostly noble metal materials such as gold or platinum were used to form the electrode of an IPMC by using electroless plating process. Furthermore, carbon-based materials, which are carbon nanotube (CNT) and reduced graphene-CNT composite, were used to alter the electrode of IPMC. To form the electrode of IPMC, we employ the synthesized graphene on copper foil by chemical vapor deposition method and use the transfer process by using a support of PET/silicone film. The properties of graphene were evaluated by Raman spectroscopy, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and 4-point probe. The structure and surface of IPMC were analyzed via field emission scanning electron microscope. The fabricated IPMC performance such as displacement and operating frequency was measured in underwater.

전기도금법으로 만든 니켈-티타니아 복합체에서 초음파 처리가 도금층에 미치는 영향 연구 (A study of the effects on the composition of the electrodeposited Ni-TiO2 composite with the ultrasonic treatment)

  • In the present study, $Ni-TiO_2$ composite coatings were electrodeposited in a sulfamate bath containing $TiO_2$ particles. The influence of the ultrasonic treatment on the co-deposition of $TiO_2$ particles in the coating and the hardness of the electrodeposited $Ni-TiO_2$ composite has been investigated. Three different ultrasonic treatments (pretreatment before the electrodeposition (pre-UT), pretreatment + applied during the electrodeposition (UT), and the electrodeposition without the ultrasonic treatment (w/o UT)) were performed. The $Ni-TiO_2$ composite coatings are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), image analyzer, and hardness tester. Comparison of results indicates that the volume fraction is more important factor than the agglomerated particle size in terms of the strength improvement, and the strength of the electrodeposited $Ni-TiO_2$ composite coatings is enhanced with pre-UT condition.

  • KLN(K3Li2Nb5O15) has attracted a great deal of attention for their potential usefulness in piezoelectric, electro-optic, nonlinear optic, and pyroelectirc devices. Especially, the KLN single crystal has been studied in the field of optics and electronics. However it is hard to produce good quality single crystals due to the crack propagation during crystal growing. One of the solutions of this problem is prepartion of thin film. But the intensive study has not been conducted so far. In this study, after the KLN thin film were prepared by R.F. magnetron Sputtering method on SiO2/Si substrate, the post-annealing methods of RTA(rapid thermal annealin) and IPA(insitu post annealing) were employed. The deposition condition of KLN thin film was RF power(100 W), Working pressure(100 mtorr). The commonness of both RAT and IPA was that the higher were deposition and post annealing temperature, the higher was the intensity of XRD but the less surface roughness. The difference of post-annealing methods affected XRD phase and surface condition very much. And in IPA process, the influence of O2 had much effect on the formation of KLN phase.

천연 및 인공해수를 이용하여 제작한 환경친화적인 전착코팅막의 형성 특성 (Formation Characteristics of Environment Friendly Electrodeposit Films Formed in Natural and Synthetic Seawater Conditions)

  • The environment friendly calcareous deposit films were formed on steel plates by electrodeposition technique in natural seawater and synthetic solutions such as dissolved $\textrm{Mg}^{2+}$ and $\textrm{Ca}^{2+}$ ions at various potential conditions. The influence of potential conditions on composition ratio, structure and morphology of the electrodeposited films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) and X-ray diffractor (XRD). Accordingly, this study was provided a better understanding of the composition between the growth of $\textrm{Mg(OH)}_2$ and that of $\textrm{CaCO}_3$ during the formation of calcareous deposit films on steel substrate under cathodically electrodeposition in synthetic and natural seawater. The results showed that the formation of good overall calcareous deposited film in seawater can be achieved by controlling the Ca/Mg ratio according to interfacial pH with the effective use of the electro deposition technique.

  • In this study, tin phosphate glass system($SnO_2-(1-x)P_2O_5-xB_2O_3$) that occur during the melting of the metal oxide inhibition of the oxidation reaction, and to reduce oxides of high melting temperature in the following three methods were melting. The first is the general way in the atmosphere, and the second by injecting $N_2$ gas under a neutral atmosphere, and finally in the air were melted by the addition of a reducing agent Melt in the atmosphere when the oxidation of the metal oxide is inhibited by low temperatures were melting. In addition, the deposition of crystals within glassy or inhibit devitrification phenomenon is also improved over 80% transmittance. This phenomenon, when the melting of glass, many of $Sn^{4+}$ ions are reduced to the $Sn^{2+}$ was forming oxides SnO, because it acts as a modifier oxide.

칼슘 전착처리 후, 시멘트 모르타르 속 철근의 부식속도에 대한 EIS 모니터링 (EIS monitoring on corroded reinforcing steel in cement mortar after calcium electro-deposition treatment)

  • 본 연구는 시멘트 모르타르 속에 매입된 철근이 3wt.% NaCl 전해질 수용액에 8시간 침지 및 대기 중에서 16시간 건조가 반복되는 환경에 있을 때 교류 임피던스법을 이용하여, 10kHz에서 용액저항, 10mHz에서 전하이동저항을 측정하여, 그 값의 차이로부터 분극저항을 계산하여 부식속도를 측정하였다. 부식속도를 제어하기 위해 포화 Ca(OH)2 용액에서 일정시간 전착하여, 그 효과를 관찰하였다. 철근의 부식속도는 용존산소의 확산속도 증가에 의해, 침지보다는 건조 환경에서 가속되었으며, 이것은 모르타르 두께가 얇을수록 명확히 측정되었다. 침지 및 건조 반복횟수가 증가함에 따로, 철근의 부식속도는 부동태에서 Low-middle 상태로 가속되었으며, 그 기준은 다수의 연구자들이 사용한 기준을 사용하였다. 이 기준에 의해 철근의 부식속도가 Low-middle 상태가 되면, 포화 Ca(OH)2 용액에서 -10 uA/㎠ 전류밀도를 사용하여 철근에 전착을 진행하고, 5일간 건조시킨 후, 3wt.% NaCl 용액에서 침지-건조 반복실험을 다시 진행하면서, 부식속도를 측정하였다. 측정결과, 모르타르의 두께가 얇은 경우, 부식속도의 감소를 명확히 관찰하였다. 또한, 전착에 의한 철근의 부식속도 감소는 침지상태에서 보다 철근이 건조과정에 놓일 때, 더욱 크게 측정되었다. 전착처리에 따라 칼슘은 철근표면과 모르타르 계면에 존재하는 Porous rust layer의 void를 메우는 것으로 보인다. 시험체가 건조과정에 놓일 때, 철근표면에 형성된 다공질의 녹층속에 농축된 Ca2+가 침지과정보다 쉽게 CO32-와 결합되어, CaCO3가 형성됨으로서 철근의 부식속도를 더욱 감소시킨 것으로 생각된다.

천연해수 중 전류밀도 변화에 따라 형성된 환경친화적인 전착 코팅막의 특성 분석 (Properties Analysis of Environment Friendly Electrodeposit Films Formed at Various Current Density Conditions in Natural Seawater)

  • Calcareous deposits are the consequence of pH increase of the electrolyte adjacent to metal surface affected by cathodic current in seawater. It obviously has several advantages over conventional coatings, since the calcareous deposit coating is formed from coating (Mg$^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$) naturally existing in seawater. In consideration of this respect, environment friendly calcareous deposit films were formed by an electro deposition technique on steel substrates submerged in 48$^{\circ}C$ natural seawater. And the influence of current density, coating time and attachment of steel mesh on composition ratio, structure and morphology of the electrodeposited films were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy(EDS) and X-Ray Diffractor(XRD), respectively. Accordingly, this study provides a better understanding of the composition between the growth of $Mg(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ during the formation of electro deposit films on steel substrate under cathodically electrodeposition in $48^{\circ}C$ natural seawater. The Mg compositions, in general, are getting decreased regardless of current density but Ca compositions are getting increased as electrodeposition time runs. That is, $Mg(OH)_2$ compounds of brucite structure shaped as flat type is formed at the initial stage of electrodeposition, but CaCO$_3$ compounds of aragonite structure shaped as flower type is formed in large scale. Besides, $Mg(OH)_2$ compounds were much formed at 5 A/$\m^2$ environment condition compared to the 3 A/$\m^2$ and 4 A/$\m^2$ environment conditions. This is because that OH- which was comparatively largely generated at the metal surface is preferably combined with $Mg^{2+}$TEX>.

Characterization of Cr-P-C/MoS2 composite plating electro-deposited from trivalent chromium

  • Chromium plating is a common surface treatment technique extensively applied in industry due its excellent properties which include substantial hardness, abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, surface color, and luster. In this study, the effect of $MoS_2$ particles of the composite coating was investigated. To improve the lubrication of mold, $Cr-P-C/MoS_2$ composite plating was studied by varying the $MoS_2$ content. The current efficiency of the composite plating incorporated $MoS_2$ particles was increased at $MoS_2$ contents of 0.5 and 1.0 g/l due to the incorporation of fine particles. On the other hand, when the content of $MoS_2$ is 1.0 g/l or more, the current efficiency is lowered due to an increase in impact on the cathode surface. In order to evaluate the mechanical properties of Scratch test were conducted. Scratch test confirmed the lubricity and abrasion resistance characteristics revealed that the composite plating with added $MoS_2$ had relatively low surface roughness and uniform surface modification to improve its properties.

뫼스바우어선원적용을 위한 전기도금과 열처리기법을 이용한 Co가 확산된 Cu기지체 제조 (Synthesis of Co Diffused Cu Matrix by Electroplating and Annealing for Application of Mössbauer Source)

  • 뫼스바우어 선원 $^{57}Co/Cu$의 제조조건을 도출하기 위하여, 금속 분말 코발트(Co)를 황산에 용해시킨 후 $H_3BO_3$, KOH와 NaCl을 첨가하여 Sulfamate 도금용액을 제조 후 Cu plate 기판에 도금하였다. 도금두께는 $4{\mu}m$로 일정하게 유지하였다. 전류밀도를 $2mA/cm^2$$30mA/cm^2$로 유지하면서 pH에 변화를 준 결과 pH가 4 이상으로 증가하면 hcp 결정의 Co 금속 이외의 2차상이 생성되었다. pH가 증가할수록 Co 후막 표면이 거칠어 졌으며 균열된 표면형상을 관찰하였다. pH가 5까지 증가할 경우 평균입도는 54 nmfh 증가함을 확인하였다. 열처리조건을 변화시키면서 Co가 Cu기지 내에 구속되는 온도가 $900^{\circ}C$에서 2 h임을 확인하였다. 열처리는 진공 후 Ar 분위기(1.5 l/min)를 유지하면서 수행하였다.

Investigation of neural network-based cathode potential monitoring to support nuclear safeguards of electrorefining in pyroprocessing

  • During the pyroprocessing operation, various signals can be collected by process monitoring (PM). These signals are utilized to diagnose process states. In this study, feasibility of using PM for nuclear safeguards of electrorefining operation was examined based on the use of machine learning for detecting off-normal operations. The off-normal operation, in this study, is defined as co-deposition of key elements through reduction on cathode. The monitored process signal selected for PM was cathode potential. The necessary data were produced through electrodeposition experiments in a laboratory molten salt system. Model-based cathodic surface area data were also generated and used to support model development. Computer models for classification were developed using a series of recurrent neural network architectures. The concept of transfer learning was also employed by combining pre-training and fine-tuning to minimize data requirement for training. The resulting models were found to classify the normal and the off-normal operation states with a 95% accuracy. With the availability of more process data, the approach is expected to have higher reliability.
