  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of interferential current therapy (ICT) on spasticity, ROM, and the balance function in patients with stroke. Methods: 30 inpatients with stroke were randomly divided into 2 groups: the ICT group (n=15) and the placebo-ICT group (n=15). Two groups have got the traditional rehabilitation for 30 minutes before applying either ICT or placebo-ICT stimulation. The stimulus of ICT has been applied to gastrocnemius at the level of 100 Hz, two times of sensation threshold, while the placebo-ICT group has put on the electrode without electrical stimulus. To assess spasticity in ankle, the modified Ashworth scale (MAS) was used, and goniometer was applied to measure the passive range of motion (PROM). Also, the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), the Timed-up and go (TUG), and the Functional Reach Test (FRT) were carried out to examine the balance ability. Results: The ICT group showed a significant reduction of spasticity and significantly increased PROM than the placebo-ICT group (p<0.05). The placebo-ICT group did not show significant changes in the BBS, the TUG, and the FRT, while the ICT group significantly improved the BBS, the TUG, and the FRT (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that ICT applied to gastrocnemius effectively decreased spasticity and improved range of motion and balance function in patients with stroke.

  • In this paper, we aimed to analysis EEG signals related to the relativity between musical stimuli and human brain activity for the arithmetical calculation and present the experimental results. We use two kinds of musical stimuli, one is a sedative tendency music and the other is a stimulative tendency music. The SMR wave and Mid-beta wave are analyzed because of the concentration. In our results, the sedative tendency music is not more interfere with human brain activity for the arithmetical calculations than the stimulative tendency music.

  • This paper proposes the electric stimulus tactile apparatus system(TESTAS) loaded on the hap-tic interface using ultrasonic motors(USMs). To touch the virtual object like wall in graphic, the 6 DOF haptic interface provides force feedback to users as if it is real. But the case of sharp virtual object like a puncture, it could not provided the sense of pain, but only the reaction-force. After the TESTAS had been loaded on this haptic interface. it could Provide not only the force but also the pain to users. To estimate the capability of TESTAS, we did experiments of three cases, one was very sharp, another was dull, the other is continuative contact.

  • In this paper, we measured and analyzed the EEG signals related to the relativity between musical stimuli and human concentration for memorization. In our experiments, the subjects carried out the tasks related to human memorization exposing to musical stimuli and the tasks are to memorize the english words. We used two kinds of musical stimuli, one is a sedative tendency music and the other is a stimulative tendency music. We presented the results that are analyzed as the EEG signals by frequency bands, respectively.

  • This study proposes an effective algorithm that can render a realistic image of a lighting environment, especially an automotive rear lamp, using the backward ray tracing method. To producea realistic image similar to that perceived by the human eye, the incident light energy at the eye point estimated by a ray tracing algorithm is represented by XYZ tri-stimulus values, which are then converted into RGB values considering the particular display device.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study on the reaction of muscles by functional electrical stimulation(FES) with the design and fabrication of an ankle reaction apparatus. The ankle reaction apparatus consists of a circuit part and a kinematic part, and it monitors reaction time for a particular angle of joint rotation according to FES. The experimental results showed that the change of the ankle rotation angle was linearly proportional to the change of the magnitude of FES. It also showed that the muscle's reaction time was constant no matter how large the magnitude of the stimulus. The results of this paper can be applied to develop an active-type walking-assistance robot.

  • The displacement current measuring system used for detecting the dynamic behavior of monolayers at the air-water interface is described. It basically consists of a film balance, a pair of electrodes connected to each other through a sensitive ammeter. Here, one electrode is suspended in air and the other electrode is placed in the water. With Maxwell-displacement-current-measuring method, the phase transitons of Poly-$\gamma$-benzyl p-glutamate (PBDG) on a water surface were detected. Measured surface pressure, displacement current and dipole moment of monolayers of PBDG on the water surface. Also, we measured that compression velocity(30, 40, 50[mm/min]) when the sample spread volume was about 400[ul]. From the result, it is known that current is generated in the range of high surface pressures as compression velocity become faster.

  • The Displacement current measurement system used in this experiment because detecting the dynamic behavior of monolayers at the air-water interface is possible. It basically consists of a film balance, a pair of electrodes connected to each other through a sensitive ammeter. Here, one electrode is suspended in air and the other electrode is placed in the water. PBLG phase transformation measured by Maxwell-displacement-current-measurement method in surface of the water. Measured (surfacc pressure, displacement current and dipole moment) of monolayers of PBLG on the water surface. We measured displacement current that occur when changed temperature(15, 20, 25$^{\circ}$ ) and the compression speed(30, 40, 50(mm/min)). From the result, it is known that curren generated in the range of high surface pressur compression velocity and temperature become faste.

  • We studied on the ultra thin DMPC by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The $\pi$ -A isotherm of the DMPC was measured at the air-water interface varying with the compressing speed and amounts of solutions for spreading. DMPC molecules have one phosphatidylcholine head group and two long alky groups with carbonyl group. Displacement currents generated during the compression of monolayers of DMPC on the surface of water were investigated. The molecular arrangement of deposited films were evaluated by measuring the absorption with the UVspectrometer. And we made structures of metal(Au)/DMPC/Metal(Au) and examined electron through DMPC LB films by means of current-voltage(I-V) measurement .

  • We have examined the electrical properties of arachidic acid Langmuir (L) films by using a displacement current measuring technique with pressure stimulation. We give pressure stimulation into organic thin films and detect the Induced displacement current. The structure of manufactured device is Au/arachidic acid/Al, the number of accumulated layers are 17, 19 and 21. Also, we then examined of the MIM device by means of I-V The I-V characteristic of the device is measured from 0 to +1[V]. The insulation property of a thin film is better as the distance between electrodes is larger.
