  • The use of the carbon nanotube (CNT) is superior to the general powder state materials in their thermal and chemical properties. Because its ratio of diameter to length (aspect ratio) is very large, it is known to be a type of ideal nano-reinforcement material. Based on this advantage, the existing carbon black of the semiconductive shield materials used in power cables can acquire excellent properties by the use of a small amount of CNTs. Therefore, we fabricated specimens using a solution mixing method. We investigated the thermal properties of the CNT, such as its storage modulus, loss modulus, and its tan delta using a dynamic mechanical analysis 2980. We found that a high thermal resistance level is demonstrated by using a small amount of CNTs. We also investigated the chemical properties of the CNT, such as the oxidation reaction by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) made by Travel IR. In the case of the FT-IR tests, we searched for some degree of oxidation by detecting the carboxyl group (C=O). The results confirm a tendency for a high cross-linking density in a new network in which the CNTs situated between the carbon black constituent molecules show a bond using similar constructive properties.

  • In this paper, physical properties and electrical characteristics of linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE) films blended with ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA), containing polar groups within it, were investigated to improve defects of polyethylene(PE) such like space charge accumulation and tree growth. Blending method changes super-structure of LLDPE, having a great influence on electrical characteristics. For analysis of physical properties, FTIR, XRD and DSC methods were executed, and for electrical characteristics, volume resistivity and dielectric strength were measured with the varying temperature. From the results, it is confirmed that bled specimens tend to be safe to varying temperature, and specially of 70:30 and 50:50 have a good performance.

  • Electrical discharge machinable $Si_3N_4$ was fabricated with the addtion of 20-60 vol% TiN by gas pressure sintering. Their sinterability, microstructure, mechanical and electrical properties were characterized as a function of the TiN content. The addition of TiN up to 20 vol% increased the flexural strength and fracture toughness as compared with those of the monolithic Si3N4. For the TiN content higher than 40 vol%, the electrical resistivity was lower than $1062\Omega$.cm. The $Si_3N_4$ with the addition of 40 vol% of TiN appears to have the optimum considerable sinterability, mechanical and electrical properties, and machinability. A microstructural analysis showed that the enhanced toughening was due to the crack deflection.

  • We have characterized XeCl excimer-laser-induced crystallization of thin amorphous silicon films deposited by PECVD (${\alpha}-Si:H$) and LPCVD(${\alpha}-Si$). The electrical and optical properties and surface roughness of crystallized thin films have been measured. The dc conductivities, crystallinity and surface roughness of the films increased as the laser energy density and shot density were increased. Also, we have investigated the effects of 2-step annealing employing SPC and ELA. The properties of 2-step annealed films were better than those of films annealed by ELA only.

  • In this paper, the distribution suspension porecelain insulators which had been used for long periods in the contaminated area were evaluated. The contaminated area is close to the sea and in the high density of industries. The heavily contaminated domestic and imported insulators were investigated by using electrical characteristics, such as power-frequency dry flashover voltage, power-frequency wet, flahover voltage, and leakage current. Also, these electrical results were compared with the contaminants on the surface. From these analysis, we found that the contamination from the industrial dust, only slightly decreased flashover voltage and increased leakage current. Therefore, the electrical properties of insulators used for 30 years in the area of coast and industrial complex were not much changed.

  • In this paper, a method for multi-physics analysis of the temperature-dependent properties of an oil-immersed transformer is discussed. To couple thermal fields with electromagnetic and fluid fields, an algorithm employing a user defined function (UDF) is proposed. Using electromagnetic analysis, electric power loss dependent on temperature rise is calculated; these are used as input data for multi-physics analysis in order to predict the temperature rise. A heat transfer coefficient is applied only at the outermost boundary between transformer and the atmosphere in order to reduce the analysis region. To verify the validity of the proposed method, the predicted temperature rises in high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) windings and radiators were compared with the experimental values.

  • We fabricated an IMI-O polymer containing an imidazole group that could form a complex structure between the monolayer and the metal ions at the air-water interface. Also, the surface analysis and the electrical properties of metal ion complex of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were investigated by using $\pi$-A isotherms. Atomoic force microscopy (AFM), current-voltage (I-V) measurements. In the $\pi$-A isotherms the molecular area was expanded with $Fe^{3+}$ concentration increase. It is considered that the expansion of molecular area is due to electrostatic repulsion between the polymer chains and hydrophobic increase of ionic strength. In the I-V characteristics, it is found that the limiting area has effects on the change of conductivity. And, the dielectric relaxation time decreased for increase of the $Fe^{3+}$ concentration.

  • The PbTiO3 is well known materials having remarkable ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and pyroelectric properties. PbTiO3 thin films with a perovskite structure were successfully fabricated on titanium substrate by chemical vapor deposition. These films were characterized according to composition, crystal structure, and electrical properties. Semi-quantitative compositional analysis of the deposited films was made by Auger Electron Spectroscopy(AES). The PbTiO3 film deposited on titanium substrate at the deposition temperature 75$0^{\circ}C$, the Ti(C2H5O)4 fraction 0.15, and O2 partial pressure 0.06atm, has a columnar structure and grows with(001) preferred orientation, and has stoichiometric composition. A clear dielectric transition and offset in the dc conductivity near the transition temperature(48$0^{\circ}C$) were observed in the deposited lead titanate film.

  • This research measured the dielectric properties of silicone rubber with various hardness in 100 Hz~3 MHz, $30{\sim}170^{\circ}C$ conditions. When the hardness increases from 65 degree to 75 degree, the dielectric loss increased within frequency range of 100 kHz~3 MHz and was a little change in dielectric loss within temperature range of $90^{\circ}C{\sim}170^{\circ}C$. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) showed the weight change rate increased a little while heated until $800^{\circ}C$. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) measurement showed that Aluminium Trihydroxide($AlOH_3$) which acts as a reinforcement agent reduced the size of the particles as the hardness increased.

  • In this study, we have fabricated the 3 wt% $Li_2CO3$ doped $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ thick films on the Ag/Pd printed $Al_2O_3$ substrates for the LTCCs (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) applications. From the X-ray diffraion analysis, 3 wt% $Li_2CO3$ doped BST thick films on the Ag/Pd printed $Al_2O_3$ substrates, which sintered at 900 $^{\circ}C$ have perovskite structure without any pyro phase. The dielectric properties of 3 wt% $Li_2CO3$ doped BST thick films were measured from 1 kHz to 1 MHz. To investigate the electrical properties of 3 wt% $Li_2CO3$ doped BST thick films, we employed the impedance spectroscopy. The complex impedance of 3 wt% $Li_2CO3$ doped BST thick films were measured from 20 Hz to 1 MHz at the various temperatures.
