In this paper, an observer with novel sliding mode is proposed. The sliding mode is designed by defining a extended state whose dynamic is determined from the output error. It has the advantage of giving the desired dynamics for the error system. To get the exact system parameter for an observer, the RLS algorithm is used.
This paper presents a new identification method which utilizes fuzzy inference in parameter identification. The proposed system has an additional control loop where a real plant is replaced by a plant model. The control system to be designed is to satisfy the following specifications: 1) It has zero steady-state error. 2) It has adequate damping characteristics. 3) 1),2) satisfied, it has a shortest rise-time. Fuzzy rules describe the relationship between comparison results of the features and magnitude of modification in the model parameter values. This method is effective in auto-tuning because the response of the closed loop is verified. The proposed method is tested in simulation for several plants with first- order lags and dead-times. The results show that the proposed method is effective in practical use.
A microstructure of realistic ZnO varistor was constructed by Voronoi network and studied cia computer simulation. The grain size and standard deviation was calculated with new method and have good agreement with experimental data. In this network, the grain boundary conditions of three different type are randomly distributed. The three electrical boundary conditions . (1) type A junctions (high nonlinearity); (2) type B junctions (low nonlinearity); (3) type C junctions (linear with low-resistivity) are fitted from the experimental measurement. The electrical properties were studied by varying the boundary type concentration and the disorder parameter d. The shape of I-V characteristic curve of the network is affected by the type concentration and the disorder parameter has an effect on the double inflected region.

A robust controller is designed based on feedback linearization and sliding mode control to damp sub-synchronous control interaction (SSCI) in doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind power plants (WPPs) interfaced with the grid. A feedback-linearized sliding mode controller (FLSMC) is developed for the rotor-side converter (RSC) through feedback linearization, design of the sliding mode controller, and parameter tuning with the use of particle swarm optimization. A series-compensated 100-MW DFIG WPP is adopted in simulation to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed FLSMC at different compensation degrees and wind speeds. The performance of the designed controller in damping SSCI is compared with proportional-integral controller and conventional sub-synchronous resonance damping controller. Besides the better damping capability, the proposed FLSMC enhances robustness of the system under parameter variations.

Universal Learning Network(U.L.N.), which can model and control the large scale complicated systems naturally, consists of nonlinearly operated nodes and multi-branches that may have arbitrary time delays including zero or minus ones. Therefore, U.L.N. can be applied to many kinds of systems which are difficult to be expressed by ordinary first order difference equations with one sampling time delay. It has been already reported that learning algorithm of parameter variables in U.L.N. by forward and backward propagation is useful for modeling, managing and controlling of the large scale complicated systems such as industrial plants, economic, social and life phenomena. But, in the previous learning algorithm of U.L.N., time delays between the nodes were fixed, in other words, criterion function of U.L.N. was improved by adjusting only parameter variables. In this paper, a new learning algorithm is proposed, where not only parameter variables but also time delays between the nodes can be adjusted. Because time delays are integral numbers, adjustment of time delays can be carried out by a kind of random search procedure which executes intensified and diversified search in a single framework.

An induction motor is one of the most popular electrical apparatuses owing to its simple structure and robust construction. Parameter identification of the induction motor has long been researched either for a vector control technique or fault detection. Since vector control is a well-established technique for induction motor control, this paper concentrates on successive identification of physical parameters with on-load data for the purpose of condition monitoring and/or fault detection. For extracting six physical parameters from the on-load data in the framework of the induction motor state equation, unmeasured initial state values and profiles of load torque have to be estimated as well. However, the analytic optimization methods in general fail to estimate these auxiliary but significant parameters owing to the difficulty of obtaining their gradient information. In this paper, the univariate dynamic encoding algorithm for searches (uDEAS) newly developed is applied to the identification of whole unknown parameters in the mathematical equations of an induction motor with normal operating data. Profiles of identified parameters appear to be reasonable and therefore the proposed approach is available for fault diagnosis of induction motors by monitoring physical parameters.
This paper uses a recursive least squares method to estimate the projectile motion trajectory of an object in real time. The equations of motion of the object are obtained considering the air resistance which occurs in the actual experiment environment. Because these equations consider air resistance, parameter estimation of nonlinear terms is required. However, nonlinear recursive least squares estimation is not suitable for estimating trajectory of projectile in that it requires a lot of computation time. Therefore, parameter estimation for real-time trajectory prediction is performed by recursive least square estimation after using Taylor series expansion to approximate nonlinear terms to polynomials. The proposed method is verified through experiments by using VICON Bonita motion capture system which can get three dimensional coordinates of projectile. The results indicate that proposed method is more accurate than linear Kalman filter method based on the equations of motion of projectile that does not consider air resistance.
Primary goal of adaptive observers would be to estimate the true states of a plant. Identification of unknown parameters is of secondary interest and is achieved frequently with the persistent excitation condition of some regressors. Nevertheless, two problems are linked to each other in the classical approaches to adaptive observers; as a result, we get a good state estimate once after a good parameter estimate is obtained. This paper focuses on the state estimation without parameter identification so that the state is estimated regardless of persistent excitation. In this direction of research, Besancon (2000) recently summarized that most of adaptive observers in the literature share one common canonical form, in which unknown parameters do not affect the unmeasured states. We enlarge the class of linear systems from the canonical form of (Besancon, 2000) by proposing an adaptive observer (with additional dynamics) that allows unknown parameters to affect those unmeasured states. A recursive algorithm is presented to design the proposed dynamic observer systematically. An example confirms the design procedure with a simulation result.

This paper proposes a methodology using a tool based on the branch-parameter continuation power flow (BCPF) in order to restore the power flow solvability in unsolvable contingencies. A specified contingency from a set of transmission line contingencies is modeled, considering the transient analysis and practice in the Korean power system. This tool traces a solution path that satisfies the power flow equations with respect to the variation of the branch parameter. At a critical point, in which the branch parameter can move on to a maximum value, a sensitivity analysis with a normal vector is performed to identify the most effective compensation. With the sensitivity information, the location of the reactive power compensation is determined and the effectiveness of the sensitivity information is verified to restore the solvability. In the simulation, the proposed framework is then applied to the Korean power system.
