Performance Characteristics of a Pin-to-Cylinder Superposed Discharge Type Ozonizer (SDO)

  • This paper presents a model for a pin-to-cylinder discharge type ozonizer, which utilizes the superposition of surface discharge and corona discharge operation. By changing the gas flow rate, the discharge power and the number of SDO units, the characteristics of ozone concentration ( $O_{3con}$), ozone generation ( $O_{3g}$) and ozone yield ( $O_{3Y}$) were investigated. Using one SDO unit the maximum values of $O_{3con}$, $O_{3g}$ and $O_{3Y}$ were found as 8100[ppm], 1623[mg/h] and 213[g/kWh] respectively. With two SDO units the corresponding values were found as 12800[ppm], 2893[mg/h] and 248[g/kWh] respectively. Hence using two SDO units the efficiency was improved by 16[%].y 16[%].

  • This paper presents a novel data transmit method using display units of mobile devices. Mobile devices such as personal-digital-assistants (PDAs) and cellular phones have a display unit. The typical display unit is a liquid-crystal-display (LCD) with an back-light. Since the proposed data transmit method uses the LCD or back-light as a data transmitter, it is a kind of sightable light communication. Tn order to transmit the data, the display unit drived by an application program on the platform of mobile devices. In this paper, detailed data transmit scheme, specific data protocol are presented and discussed. Finally, with the experimental results, usefulness of the proposed data transmit method is verified.

  • In this paper, we present IGBT VVVF inverters as a 1C1M propulsion system for electric car. These inverters are composed of high power IGBT's and controlled by compact control units. The control unit performs full digital control by using 32bit DSP and microcontroller. By using CAN-bus, high speed network is constructed within four control units. The stack is simplified and optimized by using plate bus and IGBT driver units of hybrid-type.

  • We investigated the properties of a hybrid type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), which consists of a transformer with multiple secondary windings and resistive $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) thin film stripes. The secondary windings of the transformer were coupled with each other, and a superconducting current limiting unit of YBCO stripes was connected to each of them as a switch. Simple connection in series of SFCL units tends to produce imbalance in power among the units due to slight differences in quench current. In current design, magnetic coupling between the SFCL units provides a solution to power dissipation imbalance, inducing simultaneous quench by current redistribution in the YBCO films.

  • Maintenance scheduling plays an important role in evaluating the supply reliability of power systems. Since generating units must be maintained and inspected, the generation planner must schedule planned outages during the year. Several factors entering into this scheduling analysis include: seasonal load-demand profile, amount of maintenance to bo done on all generating units, size of the units, elapsed time from last maintenance, and availability of maintenance crews. This paper proposes a new algorithm to decide the multi-year maintenance scheduling with considering the total cost. We adjust the maintenance scheduling to levelize the reliability over all period. The proposed algorithm is applied to a real size power system and the developed reliability results are obtained.

군집기반 열간조압연설비 상태모니터링과 진단 (Clustering-based Monitoring and Fault detection in Hot Strip Roughing Mill)

  • Purpose: Hot strip rolling mill consists of a lot of mechanical and electrical units. In condition monitoring and diagnosis phase, various units could be failed with unknown reasons. In this study, we propose an effective method to detect early the units with abnormal status to minimize system downtime. Methods: The early warning problem with various units is defined. K-means and PAM algorithm with Euclidean and Manhattan distances were performed to detect the abnormal status. In addition, an performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated by field data analysis. Results: PAM with Manhattan distance(PAM_ManD) showed better results than K-means algorithm with Euclidean distance(K-means_ED). In addition, we could know from multivariate field data analysis that the system reliability of hot strip rolling mill can be increased by detecting early abnormal status. Conclusion: In this paper, clustering-based monitoring and fault detection algorithm using Manhattan distance is proposed. Experiments are performed to study the benefit of the PAM with Manhattan distance against the K-means with Euclidean distance.

  • In this study, we developed five mobile units and an integrated system which can manage vital signs from each unit using Bluetooth wireless communication. The five kinds of mobile unit were so designed that each has different function to be applied according to the condition of patient properly. The mobile units can measure ECG signal of single or 12 channel, blood pressure, pulse and SpO2 signal from a patient. Also, to reduce the uncomfortable measurement, several types of units such as belt type, wrist type and necklace type were designed. Our proposed system can integrate and monitor several biological signals from different patient by using Bluetooth wireless communication simultaneously. The developed system was evaluated in the simulated emergent situation and showed the system can monitor 5 patients in maximum according to the data quality. It showed the possibilities that the developed system can be used effectively for emergency situation or in- or out-hospital transport of patient. In future, with the combination of mobile communication technique, a patient who is in emergency situation can be provided with proper first-aid and a doctor can pile information of patient and give better diagnosis and treatments.

오토인코더를 이용한 열간 조압연설비 상태모니터링과 진단 (Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis of a Hot Strip Roughing Mill Using an Autoencoder)

  • Purpose: It is essential for the steel industry to produce steel products without unexpected downtime to reduce costs and produce high quality products. A hot strip rolling mill consists of many mechanical and electrical units. In condition monitoring and diagnosis, various units could fail for unknown reasons. Methods: In this study, we propose an effective method to detect units with abnormal status early to minimize system downtime. The early warning problem with various units was first defined. An autoencoder was modeled to detect abnormal states. An application of the proposed method was also implemented in a simulated field-data analysis. Results: We can compare images of original data and reconstructed images, as well as visually identify differences between original and reconstruction images. We confirmed that normal and abnormal states can be distinguished by reconstruction error of autoencoder. Experimental results show the possibility of prediction due to the increase of reconstruction error from just before equipment failure. Conclusion: In this paper, hot strip roughing mill monitoring method using autoencoder is proposed and experiments are performed to study the benefit of the autoencoder.

  • In this paper, a new FTCS with the ability to perform original control objective without considerable loss of control performance in the face of any fault is proposed. The FTCS is composed of two interacting units, Adaptive Controller Unit and Fault Detection/Classification, where ACU performs primary control objective with basic process information(I/O) and environmental information fed by FDU and where FDU detect and classify faults and make decision on remidial action by the use of information provided by ACU.
