Desing of the $96.5{\mu}W$ Limiting Amplifier using low power technique ($96.5{\mu}W$ 소비 전력을 갖는 리미팅 증폭기 설계)

  • This paper presents fully integrated low power consumption limiting amplifier. The proposed limiting amplifier is employed folded cascode structure with source degeneration output stage. This proposed structure demands few transconductance than conventional structure. It can be dramatically decrease current consumption. The total power consumption is only $96.5\;{\mu}W$ under a 1.8 V supply voltage in 9.5 dB limited gain condition. It was designed in using $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

  • This paper reports the design of the ultra low power consumption microhotplates for high temperatures. The microhotplates consisting of a platinum-based heating element on AlN/poly 3C-SiC layers were designed. The microhotplate is a $600\times600{\mu}m^2$ square shaped membrane made of $1{\mu}m$ thick ploy 3C-SiC suspended by four legs. The microhotplate was compared with $Si_3N_4/SiO_2/Si_3N_4$(NON) structure microhotplate by COMSOL simulation system. Thermal uniformity, power consumption and thermal characterizations of microhotplates based on 3C-SiC thin film are better than microhotplates with NON structure.

  • KORAIL is one of the biggest consumer in electric power market so it is necessary to investigate power consumption pattern and optimize power rates. This paper presents simulation program for electric power rates define program based on billing system database. Base on the substation annual power usage DB data, the characteristic of the substation power consumption are investigated and effective electrical billing system are compared each other. Through this program it is verified that we can save more then several hundred million won for a year. Also electric train air condition power consumption was measured to figure the method how to reduce peak energy consumption.

  • This paper proposes a method for reducing the amount of current consumption by the transceiver based remote control and the ZigBee RF4CE network layer step. We have studied how to improve power efficiency at short transition time through duty rate management. Also, comparing the measured current consumption before and after the improvement, we confirmed the correlation between the data transmission speed improvement and the current reduction.

  • To take advantage of electric propulsion, several large vessel kinds, namely, cruise vessels, icebreakers, drill ships, and warships, have been generally designed with Integrated Power System (IPS). Although most of these vessels have adopted AC distribution IPS, DC distribution IPS ships have recently emerged as a new promising technology thanks to the availability of the products related to the DC distribution system, in which the system's major advantages over AC distribution are reduced weight and fuel consumption. This paper presents the comparison results of a 10-t class fishing boat for the AC distribution and DC distribution cases. By replacing AC distribution system with DC distribution, 31-41% reduction in the weight of the electrical equipment weight and 20-25% reduction in the fuel consumption are expected.

  • With today's global environmental and energy problems, high expectations exist for solar power generation to reduce carbon dioxide generated by the consumption of fossil fuels. On the other hand, power consumption in residential homes is increasing every year. Among the many household appliances, the power demand for air conditioners increases dramatically during the summer, particularly in the afternoons. As this pattern closely matches the output pattern of solar cells, it should be possible to combine a photovoltaic array with an air conditioner to decrease the energy consumption within the home. We have developed a residential solar-powered air conditioner that operates through a combination of photovoltaic array and commercial power. In this paper, the configuration and specification of the residential solar-powered system are described to a novel high efficiency inverter using a ZVCS boost converter. And the performance evaluations of the solar-powered air conditioner are examined by the analysis of a new tracking controller with a maximum power $P_{max}$ detection of solar cell.

  • Studies on the development of various energy management programs and real-time bidirectional information infrastructures have been actively conducted to promote the reduction of power demands and CO2 emissions effectively. In the conventional energy management programs, the demand response program that can transition or transfer the power use spontaneously for power prices and other signals has been largely used throughout the inside and outside of the country. For measuring the effect of such demand response program, it is necessary to exactly estimate short-term loads. In this study, the power consumption patterns in both individual and group consumers were analyzed to estimate the exact short-term loads, and the relationship between the actual power consumption and seasonal factors was also analyzed.

  • We measured stand-by power of electrical machinery and appliance which are used at office and house. And we estimated potential electrical energy saving through stand-by power and the expecting number of supplied apparatus. As a result, We can reduce electrical energy by minimizing a stand-by power consumption up to three billion kWh which are equal to about 1/3 of an atomic power plant's generating power of 1 year.

  • A novel low-power synchronization technique is presented for the local synchronization. Since the proposed technique transmits an enable signal instead of a clock signal which consumes large power, it can considerably reduce the power consumption. The source-synchronization scheme which is widely adopted for the local synchronization is compared with the proposed technique. It is shown that the proposed low-power synchronization technique provides approximately 50% power saving.

  • For the large scale of electricity consumer, since the price for the electricity consumption depends on the peak power, the issue for peak power reduction have been being studied widely. Electric railway systems, which is one of the most representative large scale of loads, also has assignment to reduce the peak power since they have high peak power and low energy consumption load characteristics. In the aspect of the economic operation through reduction of peak power, this paper proposes a novel algorithm for power management system in electric railway systems using energy storage.
