Development of a Novel Air-Conditioning Method for Energy Savings in Commercial Building Under Time of Use Electricity Pricing (계시별 전기 요금제하의 에너지 절약을 위한 건물 냉방 제어 방법의 개발)

  • The commercial buildings are consuming about 30% of total energy used in Korea. And a large amount of energy consumption in commercial buildings is consumed by HVAC(Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) system. Therefore, if we can reduce the energy consumption in HVAC or air-conditioning system in commercial buildings, the overall energy consumption in Korea can be reduced. Currently, an electricity charge called Time of Use (TOU) is applied to typical commercial buildings. This paper proposes the novel energy management method where the temperature setting of air-conditioning system are adjusted to minimize the use of electrical energy while indoor comfort level is retained. The simulation test for a typical commercial building shows that the proposed method gives over 10% savings in electricity bills and electricity consumption compared to the conventional air-conditioning method.

  • The role of Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) is to generate a power and distribute it to the electrical devices for the system operation. For on-orbit operation of cube satellite, it is also necessary to supply power to on-board mission devices as commercial satellite does. Recently, commercial EPS products dedicated for the cube satellite application has been developed and widely used for the power subsystem design. In this paper, a permanent magnet attitude stabilization method without external power has been introduced because it has advantage from power consumption point of view and the EPS design of cube satellite by applying the commercial EPS products has been introduced and investigated. This paper also deals with the specification of the commercial EPS products for the beginner of the cube satellite design.

  • This paper presents an evaluation of the interruption costs for commercial customers in Korea using customer survey methodology. When various research results are examined, the evaluation of direct interruption costs becomes much more simplified. Especially, in the case of commercial customers, it is known that the evaluation of direct interruption costs is more useful. Accordingly, this paper selected the customer survey method to evaluate the interruption costs for commercial customers in Korea considering interruption and customer characteristics.

  • The purpose of power system design is, in a word, to provide a good quality of electric power. The design of reliable industrial and commercial power distribution system is important because of the high costs associated with power outage. Three major factors for realization of the purpose are: (1) To hold system frequency at or very close to a specified nominal value(e.g. 60Hz) by control of frequency-effective power. (2) To maintain the correct value of interchange power between power and local generators. (3) To hold system voltage at or very close to a specified nominal value by control of voltage-reactive power. Within the past decade, numbers of industrial and commercial facilities installed with local generation, large motors or both, are increasing. This means that system stability is of concern to a growing number of industrial plant electrical engineers and consultants.

  • Autonomous vehicles require precise knowledge of their position, velocity and orientation in all weather and traffic conditions in any time. And, these information is effectively used for path planning, perception, and control that are key factors for safety of vehicle driving. For this purpose, a high precision GNSS technology is widely adopted in autonomous vehicles as a core localization and navigation method. However, due to the lack of infrastructure as well as cost issue regarding GNSS correction data communication, only a few high precision GNSS technology will be available for future commercial autonomous vehicles. Recently, a high precision GNSS sensor that is based on a Broadcast-RTK system to dramatically reduce network maintenance cost by utilizing the existing broadcasting network is released. In this paper, we present the performance test result of the broadcast-RTK-based commercial high precision GNSS receiver to test the feasibility of the system for autonomous driving in Korea. Massive measurement campaigns covering of Korea region were performed, and the obtained measurements were analyzed in terms of ambiguity fixing rate, integer ambiguity loss recovery, time to retry ambiguity fixing, average correction information update rate as well as accuracy in comparison to other high precision systems.

  • his study deals with a power conversion unit of an anti-start air conditioner compressor system for the commercial vehicle. In case of converter, to reduce the switching losses and current stresses of the device, applies LLC resonant topology. Transformer leakage inductance in the full-bridge converter is used for making the resonance with the capacitor of the voltage-doubler. Through this method we can increase power and decrease volume of system. Both circuit analysis and design guideline are described. So in this paper, power conversion unit is designed. 2.5kW anti-start air conditioner compressor system was implemented, and system operation and stability was verified through experiment.

  • The majority of sensors currently being used for measuring current need to contact with conductor carrying current. Therefore it is not easy to measure and insulate. In order to figure the solution out, the remote power measurement system is introduced in this paper. The system developed here enables us to measure the current of the commercial power without contact by using Rogowski Coil and wireless communication method. Measured current is processed for the wireless transmission, then is transferred to the computer through wireless receiver. The data arrived at the computer is displayed on the screen as waveform.

  • Power continues to be a driving force in central processing units (CPU) design. Most of the advanced breakthroughs in power have been in a realm that is applicable to workstation CPUs. Advanced power management systems will manage temperature, dynamic voltage scaling and dynamic frequency scaling in a CPU. The use of power management systems for microcontrollers and embedded CPUs has been modest, and mostly focuses on very large scale integration (VLSI) level optimizations compared to system level optimizations. In this paper, a dynamic frequency controlling (DFC) technique is introduced, to lay the foundation of a system level power management system for commercial microcontrollers. The DFC technique allows a commercial microcontroller to have minor modifications on both the hardware and software side, to allow the clock frequency to change to save power; results in this study show a 10% savings. By adding an additional layer of software abstraction at the interrupt level, the microcontroller can operate without having knowledge of the current clock frequency, and this can be accomplished without having to use an embedded operating system.

Rapid Nondestructive Prediction of Multiple Quality Attributes for Different Commercial Meat Cut Types Using Optical System

  • There are differences of spectral characteristics between different types of meat cut, which means the model established using only one type of meat cut for meat quality prediction is not suitable for other meat cut types. A novel portable visible and near-infrared (Vis/NIR) optical system was used to simultaneously predict multiple quality indicators for different commercial meat cut types (silverside, back strap, oyster, fillet, thick flank, and tenderloin) from Small-tailed Han sheep. The correlation coefficients of the calibration set (Rc) and prediction set (Rp) of the optimal prediction models were 0.82 and 0.81 for pH, 0.88 and 0.84 for L*, 0.83 and 0.78 for a*, 0.83 and 0.82 for b*, 0.94 and 0.86 for cooking loss, 0.90 and 0.88 for shear force, 0.84 and 0.83 for protein, 0.93 and 0.83 for fat, 0.92 and 0.87 for moisture contents, respectively. This study demonstrates that Vis/NIR spectroscopy is a promising tool to achieve the predictions of multiple quality parameters for different commercial meat cut types.
